I adopted a 3-mo-old kitten 5 months ago and since then, have tried literally all of the litters on the shelf: CLAY (odor issues, tracking, urine patches everywhere, just generally disgusting); CORN ("top of the line" World's Best Cat Litter- alright on odor control but not great, esp. for the price. And claiming to be 99.9% dust-free, it was not. My cat constantly tracked fine dust all over the carpet which gave him sinus issues. I had to vacuum every day and it was still causing problems; PINE (Feline Pine pellets didn't work with my self-cleaning cat litter and not fun trying to scoop out wet pellets that do not clump. Their clumping version was actually like flakes- it clumped okay, but not great. And it tracked and flew out of the box all over the place. The stuff even stuck to the broom and vacuum I was using to clean it up- like confetti.) CRYSTALS, HYBRIDS, you name it. I'm surprised my kitten continued to use his box with all the changing of the litter! But I'm serious when I ... Read more

Just had to throw away 2 full boxes because of maggots, but not before they crawled all over my bathroom walls, ceiling, etc. from what I put in the box today [big sigh].

We have been using Swheat scoop for several years now, at least 6 but I've lost count, might be more. The stuff does track a bit; I often have to sweep the stairs out of the basement where the boxes are, though I don't usually find it tracked around the main part of the house. It never clumps up in the cats' paws like the clay stuff used to. I have no sense of smell but my husband swears the boxes NEVER smell. We only scoop once per day, as opposed to their recommended 2 or more times per day, and that seems to be enough. (we have three cats and two large boxes) I have never seen meal moths in the stuff, and our cats have never had a problem ingesting it either. That problem must just be individual to some cats.

This product is supposed to a good litter for kittens. BEWARE, my Savannah kitten became very sick and almost died from impaction due to licking the litter off of her paws and ingesting it! It hardened in her intestines! Please watch your animals closely when using this litter! I just sent a letter of the complaint to Swheat Scoop and notified them of the problem. $300.00 later, I'm happy to say that my kitten is recovering, but I would not recommend this litter to anyone.

I am so grateful for a website such as this to be able to get the opinion of other cat owners on swheat. i have had cats in my life for almost 60 years and was thrilled when about 20 years ago the clumping cat litter came out, i cant imagine how we stood the urine smell for so many years of the non clumping kind plus the fact there was always wetness even with frequent scooping of the litter box . We have 5 cats and 5 huge plastic rubber maid storage containers in which each one has 25 pounds of cat litter so plenty of room for the cats to dig and bury, My husband and i have always scooped the litter boxes daily to remove any clumps at all depths of the litter. ONE of our older cats has developed diabetes so urinates frequently large amounts which drain onto his paws and the tidy cat clay litter hardens in sticky pebbles in his paws which causes him to limp, it has been a battle to daily get the hardened pebbles out of his paws . Our cats have always been perfect about usin... Read more

I opened the first bag of Swheat Scoop to find moths flying in my face and lots of dead ones still in the bag. I have read several other reviews saying other people had moths too. I am hoping I got them all killed last night. If not, I may have to call an exterminator. DO NOT BUY THIS.

I have used Swheat Scoop for years with no problems. I really dont understand how your cat could get sick from eating a 100% natural wheat product. Maybe your cat is allergic to wheat. Anyway, I think its a great product and recommend it to anyone!

Cat climbed in and started EATING!!!! She did not use the litter, instead found a lovely hiding place behind a chair in the living room. Apparently the dogs also thought it was a lovely snack, I came home from work to find the entire box empty!

Smells bad. Clumps gluey. Cat will use it, but doesn't like it. What is there to say? Its a bad litter, at least for my cat. It gets an extra star because my cat will actually use it, however; he gives me a haunting look of disapproval.

I, Page Williams, have already posted, on 6/02/10, my scary (and expensive) experience with recent powder in Swheat Scoop, and the fact that the company acknowledged to me by phone a "broken screen" that had been replaced on 5/24. I wrote to them on 5/29, enclosing a sample of powder and have never received a response. Petco manager phoned them, and to her they acknowledged a "broken turbine", but have not gotten back to her nor issued a recall. I emailed them on 6/4/10, and have not received a response. I have now USPSed to them on 6/11 a sample of the litter, a cover letter, an outline of the events, and a copy of my vet bill. I am also supplying this information to some Swheat retailers in the west Houston area, hoping to save a few cat lives. Good luck to T Smith on getting any satisfaction from company.

I used it for 6 months and was pleased - then I got the worst infestation of meal moths. I purchased several bags and a few days later had maggots all over my ceiling. I contacted the manufacturer and supplier and everyone said "it’s the other guy's problem". I know for sure it was the litter because it was the only organic thing in that room. Everyone thinks it won’t happen to them and that is what I thought, but when it does (and it will eventually happen), it is a absolute nightmare. I still do not have the problem under control and everyone tells me it may take 6 more months to eradicate. Every night I spray, clean and vacuum. Don’t buy this unless you have a freezer big enough to store your litter in. The manufacturer seems to acknowledge this is a problem and takes steps to ship pest-free, but they cannot control the distribution process so you roll the dice that an infestation doesn't start at the warehouse, shipper or supplier. I am looking for a new organic, but non-grain prod... Read more

I am ~so~ happy I found Swheat litter. We had been using one of the clumping clay litters for years and years. It worked well for the cats but they tracked it all around the house. When we would vacuum, the whole house became a cloud of very fine dust. A layer of this dust formed on all the furniture and household items by day's end. The dust was EVERYWHERE. That was a problem for me in particluar suffering from particle-type allergies. Swheat litter is more expensive but it is completely worth it. No dust, no perfumes and the cat's fur and paws are cleaner and softer. One bag has lasted about 3 weeks. Amazing stuff. I feel lucky and relieved to have found this product.

I, like most other people have tried most products on the market. I was tired of the perfumes and dust from the clay litters. The younger of the two cats stopped using the litter box. What a problem - she had been great about using the litter box ( 1 1/2 years old) but I think that she may have been having issues with the perfumes too. I switched to Swheat Scoop - just emptied the litter boxes, washed them out and filled with the new litter and she is back to using the litter box again. I am so happy! I have read all the reviews on here and would like to comment that I have found no issues with smells, which was a major issues before with the clay litter. I have not had any problems it sticking to the bottom at least nothing worse than the clay litter. The litter boxes seem to be cleaner over all. The price is a little higher than some other litters but I think that it is worth it, I was having to empty the entire box at least once a week and it would take almost a whole box ... Read more

My cats liked swheat scoop, but it does get a sour, yeasty smell to it if you go that one more day past when you KNOW you should have cleaned the box out; and if you have multiple cats and don't scoop every hour, the clumps break up more easily than I'd like. I kike the fact that it comes in a paper box that I can recycle as opposed to a big old plastic bag I cannot. I like the fact that it's a family-owned business that cares about its employees, the enviroment, and its customers. I also like the fact that it is safe for kittens, which most clumping litter is not.

I've never experienced crawley things in my bags of Swheat Scoop...knock on wood.... still there's always that first time. I continue to like the product, but should I ever discover those little suckers, I'll just seal the whole bag (and all future ones) and put it in my freezer for a couple of days. A sleepy, painless demise for Marvin the Maggot. It may seem like extra work, but it still beats clay litters and is less expensive than WBCL.

Odor: 5 stars Clumping: 4 stars Tracking: 1 star Price: 5 stars This litter is the best! I have a special needs kitten who constantly gets litter in her fur. I didn't feel so great about her ingesting traditional clay on such a consistent basis, so I decided to use something a little more natural. The odor of the unused litter is faintly of sawdust. It's not unpleasant, very neutral. The texture is very light which means it does tend to track a lot, I just sweep the floor in that room more often, no big deal. To some people though I know a low-track litter is important-- this isn't it, keep looking. The odor of the used litter is the same as unused--- just sawdust. But if a clump breaks though, it's a pretty nasty smell. Don't ask me why. The odor control is good when it counts though. The clumps are pretty solid, probably about a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10, but definitely more solid in the multicat formula. Go with the multicat formula even if you only have one cat. Trust me on this.... Read more

I have been using it for several years and like it better than the litters I used before. I like the smell it has out of the bag, it flushes fine and the cat odor is okay with baking soda sprinkled on top of it regularly. I keep the pan in the bathroom under one end of our claw foot tub so I remember to scoop once per day (one cat). I haven't had any problem with it sticking to the bottom of the pan unless I am gone for a few days. In that case, it requires a little scraping to remove. Our cat is 20 years old and it seems to work well for her. I do need to sweep the area a bit as it does tend to track.

I tried this litter because I hated the dusty nasty smell of Tidy Cat, my cat always seemed to smell like the liter box. I have to say at first I was very pleased with the product. Yes it was a little messier then others I used in the past but I was ok with that. I did notice that the urine clumps had a strong ammonia smell to it when scooping. I was even ok with that. Then one day I noticed my cat starring at his litter box and pawing at it like he seen something in it. After taking a close look I find what look like maggotts crawling around in it. At first I thought that my cat my have gotten worms. Then I did a little research and found that Swheat Scoop Litter is a haven for certain insects and larve such as Indian meal moths, Pantry moths etc. I will never use this product again.

I tried this litter when as Petco was out of my favorite "Worlds Best Cat Litter" Multiple cats . My kitties are perfect about always using their littter box but they don't like this at all. You use way more litter than Worlds best and it is far messier. All in all I wouldn't buy again

I used Swheat Scoop for 3 years and was very happy with it except for twice. The first time I seen the litter moving and scooped it up to find maggots in the litter. I called the company and they said to throw it out and they sent me 3 coupons to buy more. That sometimes a bug gets in it. Now it has happened again and I did not notice it at first because it was summer and my cat uses the outdoors for summer. When I opened the closet door where the litter was stored there were maggots on the walls and also several bugs. I cleaned up as best as I could and went through my puzzles that were on the shelf and found more bugs and maggots. To make a long story short there are still some there after 8 weeks of constant checking. I will NEVER buy this product again.

So far I'm gathering that people either love this litter or they hate it. I wanted to love it I really did but I wouldn't recommend this litter without throughly telling them what I didn't like about. While shopping for litter I was looking for a flushable litter thinking I'd scoop more often in turn there wouldn't be any odor.I was so excited to start to run low on my old litter and finally buy Swheat Scoop, I wanted to be able to flush waste away everyday, instead of waiting for the garabage to get full so I can bag it up and toss it all together.I liked using scoopable clay litter instead of regular litter. When I first switched over to Swheat Scoop I liked it until after a few times of scooping the smell of urine still infested the box. It says to change ALL litter after a month, it hasnt been a month yet and it STINKS really bad!! I like to think I'm a "thirfty gal" and get my moneys worth (this litter is more expensive of course) so I would hate to throw so much away before I rea... Read more

I love this stuff!! Every other cat litter on the market that does not use wheat is unsafe for the cats and humans. I like that I don't have to worry about what is in my lungs or my cats lungs as she goes digging in her litter (or occasionally playing in it). I've never had a problem whatsoever using this product. I use the crappy cheap scoops and it still works great. I prefer the multi cat formula over the normal, because it clumps better, but if I had to use the normal, I still would. I've never had a bug problem or anything else I've been seeing in the bad reviews. I've had bug problems in the past with a litter box on the screened porch that I did not keep properly cleaned. I had previously allowed that one to stay soiled and it had bug problems no matter what litter was used. I love that this brand has no smell, unlike the nasty perfumed brands. You never know there is a cat in the house, because it does not smell like kitty dirt or the obvious smell of scented litter. ... Read more

It is unable to keep the cat odours contained, doesn't clump the urine. Also we had started to notice some weird little bugs crawling around our clean apartment. So we went to explore the source of the outbreak of well MAGGOTS, turns out this stuff is heaven for them. This is by far the worse litter I have ever used, I would rather let my cat use wood pellets over this. If I could rate it 0 I would.

I am being driven out of the living room by this stuff. It does nothing to control odor. It doesn't clump, instead it all congeals at the bottom of the box and has to be tediously scraped out. It tracks about worst than clay. Our puppy however loves it, convenient cat poop sandwiches. Going back to clay until I can find something better. Very disappointed.

I have been using Swheat Scoop for many years. Recently, I found the litter pieces are smaller and finer grounded producing a lot of power. I have 3 cats, after they used the box there were major tracking problem. The power got all over the cats' paws as well as their faces. The power was all over the house on the furniture on our clothes... and one of our cats has asthma, she is coughing more now. So, I tried sieving the litter before putting into the box and discovered that 1/3 of the bag of litter is fine power. I guess it probably make more profit for the company to produce more bags with less litter and more residue. I love Swheat Scoop but it gives me too much work and I really don't think inhaling the wheat dust do any good to me and my cats' lungs. I will keep looking for better solutions, otherwise, keep sieving out the power :(... overall it WAS a good product. By the way, please do not flush cats' waste in to the water waste system. As cat waste contains a unique parasite ... Read more

I was thrilled to find this after the Tidy Cats scoop litter suddenly seemed to add loads of perfume to their product-poor cat always smelled of it and I am allergic to heavy perfume like that. Why do companies think we like all this overscented crap? Unfortunately, we have had mice problems before...I had been wondering about mice eating this shweatscoop-it's food for them, I thought..right? Long and short is if you have any mice problems don't get this. Cat has caught mice each night for the past 3 nights and I just found a dead one in the litter box. EEEEEUUUUUU. I started becoming suspicious when she kept going down to her litter box doing the stalking "cat on high alert for mice intrusion" detail. So just got rid of it and am trying other litter . I am bummed because it was not fragrant yet kept the cat odor completely out. There was a corn based product but I would think the mice would like that too.... If you have no rodent problem it's great..but i think you would be tem... Read more

I very much like that this litter is flushable, however, it doesn't seem to control odor at all. Fresh litter seems to stink after just a couple of days (and I scoop it out twice a day), and to top it off it doesn't clump very well. I'll keep looking for something better.

I've been using this litter for over a year now and it has made a WORLD of difference. I don't have the 'sticking' problem because I use those disposable paper litter boxes and throw the whole thing away once a week. Also, I make sure to scoop 1-2 times/day. In my opinion it tracks just as much as the clay stuff...it just smells a TON better.

I have used it for over a year with 4 different cats at 4 different times. After reading all the reviews, I'd like to offer an opinion. The smell of the urine when mixed with the litter might depend on what your cat eats. I don't feed my cats anything with fish in it. When I do, the smell in the house and litter box is horrible. Think about it. It might not be the litter that is the problem, it could be the waste going in it. For kittens/cats who do not use the box, it could be because the animal is ill. When a cat starts going outside the box, it could be a sign that urination/defecation is painful and it associates the pain with the litter box. Horrible urine smells are signs of infection and/or diabetes. Smelly poop can be the result of worms, intestinal infections, intolerance to elements in the food, many things. If the litter is the same, and the results are different, it's most likely the variable...which would be the cat or the cat food. I have researched symptoms lik... Read more

I originally loved the idea of this litter. It clumps well, but it also clumps like glue to the bottom of the litter pans. Their website says to spray cooking spray on the bottom of the pans before filling but it really doesn't make a difference. In addition, it does not control odor at all, in fact I think it makes it worse. For folks with one cat maybe it's fine, but for multiple cat owners, it does not control odor in my opinion and not all cats like it. I've tried their multiple cat formula but it doesn't seem different than their regular. I won't be using it anymore.

UPDATE:  I don't flush cat litter away anymore because of the serious consequences to other animals. See my warning against flushing cat litter elsewhere in this topic in the item Clump'N Flush. ORIGINAL COMMENT: Con: Doesn't clump until urine hits bottom of box, and then sticks like glue to bottom. Have to scrape to get it off, and it's hard to get all of it off. Will never use again. Pro: Flushable, clumps. Alternative product: World's Best Cat Litter. Also flushable, clumps much better and doesn't stick. Made from corn, so is biodegradable.

Switched to Swheat Scoop because I liked the environmental/natural aspects of the product. Had used from Ever Clean for the previous 3 years. With Swheat Scoop, I had a HORRIBLE urine odor filling most of my house IMMEDIATELY. And by that I mean I had horrendous odor problems before I'd even switched completely to the Swheat Scoop; I was still blending the two litters together for transition!!! Thought one of my two cats had peed on the floor ... tried cleaning the whole area around the box with Nature's Miracle ... finished switching to nothing but the Swheat Scoop ... finally figured out that everything was great right after I'd scoop out the box but the stench would return instantly after the first visit from a kitty. Returned the rest of the bag to Petco for a full refund. Swheat Scoop is no better than having your cat do its business in an empty box.

I switched to Shweat scoop from Tidy Cats Small Spaces litter in an effort to be "green" We have 3 kitties and throw away a lot of used litter weekly. I started out by mixing the two litters to get my cats to transition to it and the transition went very smoothly! The litter does a good job of covering most odor. I have one cat that doesn't cover his poop, so of course that's going to smell. The litter doesn't clump very well, but it's decent enough. We haven't tried flushing it yet, but we will eventually. I have had no problems with the litter sticking to the bottom of the litter pan because we thoroughly scoop twice a day. If we didn't, I could see how sticking to the bottom could be a major problem. We have a cat with respiratory problems, and he has had no issue with this litter. One last note, the biggest thing that made me switch was when I read an online review about kitties licking their paws and potentially getting the clay litter into their digestive system! That could cause... Read more

Kitty adjusted right away because it was similar in texture to his previous favorite clay litter. I switched because clay litter had bentonite in it which may cause many problems. Anyway, Swheat was easy to adjust kitty to and I found that it clumps pretty good (However you do have to fill the box 3 inches exactly and you will have no problems with things getting to the bottom). Those people who scoop everyday will love Swheat. I didn't try waiting a week like some people do, so I don't know if it's as effective then..but you're going to have to try and find out. It's flushable, clumps, and kitty likes it.

I really liked this litter.  It clumped well, controlled odors pretty well, is light weight, easy to handle and had no dust.  I also liked that it is biodegradable and flushable. My complaint and the reason I had to switch litter is because I became infested with some type of very small fly.  I am now trying the corn based litter and I hope I do not have anything hatch out of it...............................

We love this eco-friendly cat litter and had been using it for about 7 months. However, over the course of several months we developed an ENORMOUS MOUSE PROBLEM in our basement where our ferret lives. We had several litter boxes in the corners and at first thought the mice were eating the ferret food only to realize that they were gorging on the wheat grain particles. I'm suprised it took us this long to figure it out, but it is a fantastic food source to mice. And the mice population explosion coincided with our switching from newspaper based litter to this one. So if you already have a problem with mice, DO NOT use this litter.

I REALLY enjoy this cat litter. As a very passionate environmentalist, it suits my lifestyle bust most of all, my cat doesnt mind it. I will admit that she has a much stronger affinity for clay clumping litter but then I would have to deal with our environmental problem. If you didnt know, clumping litter is extremely bad for the environment.....its called strip mining people, look it up! Also, I no longer use one plastic bag a day to throw out the clumps/feces. The clumps are fairly solid but you do have to be extra cautious when cleaning out the box. I have found that putting about 5 inches of litter will stop it from going to the bottom. This way, you can get your scooper under the clump and not worry about some of it breaking away. If you have a problem with the smell of wheat litter, add some baking soda into your cats litter box. I highly recommend it. Have been using for one month!

When i got the cat, i used Swheat Scoop. It wasnt really working and my kitten was pooing outside. Hers alittle bit of tips that made things better. 2 inches of litter, 2 litter boxs (per cat), keep in privacy spots, give treats when she/he goes inside, when she/he goes outside clean up special cleaner you get at pet shop. Hope this helps!
