Romesucks 10/15/2011
awful ,he is proof that you never have to play a sport in your life but grab a microphone, brainwash empty headed morons to follow you, and you can be a success. he sounds like he has his whole show on cue cards, no personality at all, not funny. He would need 3 upgrades to become lame. He is a walking ,talking cliche. Just absolutely awful. The callers read their "takes", over the air, and it's just absolutely unbearable. I turn off the radio every time I hear his monotone , passionless voice.

The sad part about Rome is that he really does know his sports. Great knowledge of all the big sports, and the history of the sports. Unfortunately this is overshadowed by his monstrous ego, and pretentious blowhard speeches, his continual put-downs of callers, and his incessant inflaming of the lowest-common-denominator calls. He repeats the worst calls and emails over and over, telling his dim-witted people to stop. Which makes it worse. Yeah, I know that's his gig. Too bad it's so lame. Rome can stick with his Nascar and MMA (which he is entirely too fond of) -- I'll take some down-to-earth SPORTS chat with Mike and Mike or Petros and Money.
pugwash01 07/31/2010
His sports knowledge and understanding of games and players is a cut above most peoples understanding! But when he goes off on a spin, I seriously want to pick my Zune/radio and throw it across the room!! His long pauses after a comment is like he is a recovering drug addict! Sorry but I hate it when people pause and leave air space to get a point across! No doubt his sport knowledge and understanding is on the spot, but the way he presents his show is sometimes beyond a joke!!!!
irishgit 07/17/2010
As far as I'm concerned, I don't see much difference between any of these jock sniffing radio hacks. They're all tiresome.
ptftball75 01/24/2010
Awful. Watched his show Jim Rome is Burning once and he talked about how Brett Favre is over rated. Suck a fat chub Jim Rome.
bub19406 07/12/2009
I can't stand this guy. He makes up words. His callers read scripts, his arrogance is spewing. Jock sniffer as well.
JackAttack 06/14/2009
I only hear the show occasionally so the "shctick" hasn't gotten old to me. I like Rome and think he does his job very well.
nubba420 04/20/2009
How does this guy have a job? Awful
boileroom 12/13/2008
10 years later. same show. same schtick. same callers. a tired act.
skins63 11/28/2008
Jim Rome is intelligent insightful, and often has a fresh point of view. However he can be a complete jackass. He insults people, while trying to make his point. I completely understand why Jim Everettknocked him on his perch, and I honestly doubt he will ever call the former signal caller Chrissie again. *OUT*
Doctor of Madness 11/28/2008
I like many of the things that Jim Rome likes, but I don't like the way he addresses these things on the air. Good luck to him but I am not part of his audience..
letsplaytwo08 11/07/2008
Bring it and don't suck cuase all i know how to do is swear and tell people that it is fresh. Any Given Sunday nailed him right on the head. He is the Howard Stern of Sports Radio. Just wait for him to start interviewing Cheerleaders when his ratings go down.
dave123 11/22/2007
Rome is burning? try penicilin Jimbo and stay away from nasty stank
jmac6462 10/11/2007
Jim Rome is an errogant shrimp who lives in California and doesn't know the first thing about Texas or any of it's educational facilities. UT may be a good school but everyone knows what you call an Aggie Graduate.......BOSS!!!!!!!
huntpj 09/18/2007
I always hear Jim Rome, and others, say you have to listen to the show for a while in order to “get it”. Not true. You have to listen for a while just to decide whether you can tolerate his style or not. It’s not rocket science, its sports takes. It’s 20 minutes of material stretched out over three hours. Though I find him articulate and at times humorous, those qualities are overshadowed by an oversized ego. Everything about him seems laughably stylized. Watch Frank Caliendo’s Rome sometime and you’ll know what I mean. Ever notice that he has never taken a call from anyone with a dissenting point of view, only from like-minded, pathetic clones who gush at his last take or interview? Ever since Jim Everett took him to task, and Romey went into his feinting possum defense position, he has been very careful to screen himself from criticism. When he says, “more of me and less of you is good for the show” he ain’t kidding. Nobody loves Jim Rome like Jime Rome loves Jim Rome.
numbah16tdhaha 08/18/2007
"Chris..." That's the first thing I think of with him...
Loerke 08/18/2007
The only guy who brought an ounce of originality to sports talk, Rome approached radio with the revolutionary belief that you actually have to prepare something to say ahead of time. Instead of resting on some great athletic accomplishments, like the most tiresome radio hosts (Rick Barry et al.), Rome made it himself, bringing a vocabulary onto the airwaves that was ridiculously funny, as well as occasionally ridiculous. His punk-rock ethos also appealed to me; his show was my introduction to Iggy Pop and Paul Westerberg, whom he interviewed on the show a couple of times -- sure it wasn't not sports-related, but it was good, so who cares? He drove a hammer into East Coast pretentiousness, and his incessant Southern cracks are actually very funny (Jeff in Richmond, anyone?). The annual Smack-Off is still the funniest three hours in radio. Rome loses points only for allowing his radio show to be gradually phased out, and (as others pointed out) for changing his mind on NASCAR. If he changes his mind on soccer, he'll lose another point. War Golden Bears, I'm out.

for who he's up against he blows away the last hour of cwheard and dan i'm the biggest liberal in the world patrick
not4lng 06/18/2007
The Rome show has become an institution. Not that Jim is all that great but there are so many bits that have worked for years plus the callers, good and bad, make the show interesting. The interviews are probably the best part of the show
EschewObfuscat ion 04/11/2007
I know everybody rolls their eyes at the suggestion of a "slippery slope" argument, but if it's really wrong for Imus to use the term "nappy-haired ho's" because it's racist OR defaming of women, it's just as wrong for Ludacris. It isn't the user or his background. It's the offensive term. Are you sure it's all that objectionable now? Because what's OK for a rapper/artist is certainly OK for a shock jock. Rome is apparently correct on this point. It doesn't happen often enough.
Stonefoxx1 04/11/2007
I am usually with Rome most sports issues but not on the Imus situation. I really feel this guy(Imus ) is out of touch with reality with his comments about the Ruegters Womens Basketball team, these are a group of young women going to school to further their education as wellas play basketball @ a higher and for their efforts are refered to as some nappy-headed hoes, how do Imus know what this women are like with their personal lives and how does he know the texture of their hair. I was somewhat dissappointed in Jim Rome rant about this racism comment because he wonders why is it okay for Ludacris to call women hoes. First and foremost Ladacris is talking about streetlife, what goes on in his life ,his hood , things that he encounters on a daily basis, on the other hand Imus is talking about people he don't even know. Rappers also call men bitches & hoes they use analogy alot in their music. Most rappers call it how they see it, if you sell drugs they speak on that, if you are a man and afraid they will call you a bitch, and if you are a man acting like a pussy they will call you a hoe. When they call female hoes most rappers are refering to the goldigger woman, thats out to sleep with them soley based on who they are as well as what they have monetary having said that what was Imus trying to say ? I am a black Woman whose son is a rapper& I know what goes on in the hood because I am from the hood, I know what is meant when blacks use the N word it can be postive or negative, me ,I chose not to use it as a part of my vocabulary, I try not to speak negatively about others regardless on race, creed or color. I respect everyone as people, Imus should have learned this lessons years ago. MCB

Thought Rome was the worst........then I heard C. Cowherd, so I grudgingly have to give Rome 2 stars...because folks, while it's bad...Cowherd proves that it can be WORSE!
Victor83 03/08/2007
What a blowhard. I only enjoyed his show once- when Jim Everett whipped his A**.
cubswin5 03/08/2007
Great show. I laugh so hard sometimes that I am literally crying. I have seen many other guys try to recreate Jim's show but non have been able to do. Jim is one of a kind. A listener for 10 years.
UMvictory 03/06/2007
The thing I like about him is that his show is UNIQUE. Its pretty easy to just "introduce a topic, talk about topic" show and he doesn't do that. Also, nobody even comes close to him in the industry as far as getting interviews. For the most part the athletes that he does interview don't just spit out the same old cliches. Great show.
Ben999 02/22/2007
I’ve seen his show a few times and I have to say I’m not impressed. He seems to only point out the obvious. He’s intelligent but he should try something other than sports.
Realrepub 02/06/2007
Rome is falling! Please tell me you aren't prejudiced. You say piously that you did not see two black men coaching in the Super Bowl. You just saw two great coaches. Yet you seemed to notice that your sister in law is black! Is she not a great sister in law? You pass judgement---probably at the direction of your ESPN superiors--against others, especially the South, but just don't have the ability or moral superiority to do a decent job of it. Tell the truth, when you learned that your brother was going to marry a black woman your first reaction was, "Oh,good Lord!". Don't confuse prejudice, which we all have with racism. Stick to sports which you can speak to with some knowledge and no big whup when you are wrong and please leave to others more qualified the social commentary which you, Colin and the other anti Southern bigots at ESPN fail at miserably. Have a nice day now, ya hear?!
dagobert2 01/23/2007
knowledgeable, good guests, quirky although increasingly juvenile presentation and attitude. one of the better syndicated sports shows.
royale w/cheese 12/13/2006
Dear Jim: Of all the sports talk personalities, talk show hosts, sports related commentators, etc., that have ever been on the air, you are by far the least annoying, the most enjoyable to listen to, and whose opinions are the most reasoned and insightful. Sincerely, Dan Dierdorf, Joe Theisman, Michael Irvin, Randy Cross, Deion Sanders, Stephen A. Smith, Colin Cowherd, and Bill Walton.
SteveC 12/06/2006
I tried to like it, I really did. I just can't get past the fact he seems like a jerk. I also can't get past the whole Jim "Chris" Everett deal where he looked like a wannabe tough guy turned pansy. I keep thinking of that when listening to him try and sound all tough. On his show, it seem like there are "friends" of the show that can do no wrong and get nothing but love while anyone who hasn't bothered to be on his show is panned, regardless of what they've done in their sport. It also just seems way to "in your face" to me all the time. Not my cup of tea.
topjimmyy 11/18/2006
the worst sports radio host ever! did i say he is the worst sports radio host ever ? cause i don't want to confuse him with the 2nd worst, he is the worst ever.
surfDUI 07/28/2006
Jimmy is no slouch. O.K. he loves Baseball like it's the '60's,and he doesn't allow any criticisms because 99% of his own fans don't have any. AND he has become more juvinille over the last year. But he is hilarious-Off the subject sports takes especially. He's going to be a GREAT grizald old man one day.
TheSilentMajor ity 07/13/2006
Jime Rome's act is total schtick radio. He is all style and very little substance. His knowledge of sports consists of what the teleprompter or his producer tells him. Calling his fans clones is almost as lame as calling them dittoheads. I am not too much into soccer but he calls it boring,he must be even more boring because the world cup gets way better ratings than his shows......SCOREBOARD you magician bearded little gnome!!!!
timhust 05/31/2006
I really enjoy Rome!
Ih8rateitall 03/24/2006
I'm glad I don't get fox sports radio anymore. I can't figure out Rome and his callers. For example: Rome~Greetings...........Kobe Byrant is he the best or is Jessica Simpson the best.........tell me about that.............okay you're in the jungle...catch me on ESPN Jim Rome Is Burning.........Let's go to John is Cleveland.......John...you're in the jungle Caller~Yes I'm in the jungle thanks man, Kobe Byrant is about as equal as Nascar as Oprah is on the Dr. Phil Show. The balance of power is now ours man, it's completely ours for the taking!
weirdharold211 2 02/03/2006
Total blowhard. Ten bucks says he keeps a floor-length mirror next to the camera so he can check himself out every 5 seconds or so. I'd also bet he wakes up every morning to a custom alarm clock that uses his voice.
TheGreatGordo 02/02/2006
Been doing the same schtick for too long. It's old and worn out and wasn't that great to start with.
matmattmatthew 01/31/2006
I took a class last year in college, Coaching Soccer. The teacher was a huge soccer buff and a local small college coach. We got into a huge argument one day during class because i said that soccer was boring(Yes i played for 7 years) and he said that its the greatest sport ever and that Americans dont like it caus we are all idiots(and yes he was American). How can anyone say that its the greatest sport when 90% of the time games end with the score of 1-0 and 10% of the time they end in ties. Id personally rather watch re-runs of three's company. How can anyone begin to compare any soccer player to michael jordan, that is just wrong. When this MJ of Soccer dunks from the foul line then come back and talk to me. Thanks Rome, Youre the man!
gamerman 01/01/2006
Hi Rome thanks for the vine bro, there are many reasons why I dislike this fool, for starters, his show was the birth of a radio show host called JT the brick(the worst radio talk show host in the business.) He talks weird and I didn't know if I should laugh or complain when I hear Jim talk about athletes off the field. He confuses he sometimes. Here is an example of Jim Rome's show: Jim: Caller, you're on the jungle. Caller: Thanks for the vine bro, I want to talk about the Lakers, can they win it all? Jim: Well let's see, the Lakers wont win because they don't watch the intuative ending of the ends of time! Caller: Huh? What the hell are you talking about? Jim: Yeah that's right, you're listening to Rome! Fox sports radio! You're in the jungle!
SW FL guy 12/26/2005
When I lived in CNY, I listened all the time and called requently. The Jungle was fresh and brash and I was in. Time changes everything and it has become stale. The show has been trimmed from 4 to 3 hours. The lame e-mails as the old schoolers predicted are just that--lame. The old faxers were witty and gritty. Nowadays-I'm out.
Gator626 12/16/2005
Very entertaining, articulate, says it like it is. Gotta appreciate hosts who will take listener calls and emails at the rate Jim does. Great interviews too, unlike the ESPN suits who interview the same people over and over (I swear the only people the ESPN hacks interview are Pete Carroll, Charlie Weis, and Bill Walton). Obviously well respected in the sports world, and puts on a great show day in day out.
sportsradiolis tener 12/07/2005
Pimp In The Box is good. Like others have said, you either get him or you don't. Some people don't "get" things so they resent being asked to get Romey. The only reason I didn't give him 5 stars is because he's shown himself to be a hypocrite regarding NASCAR (who remembers "Neck-Car" and how stupid it was a few years back? He changed that tune quick, which came off as hypocritical and corporate. He's gotten more packaged and corporate, but if you work out of a vehicle, his show is entertaining. Moreso than Dan Patrick....
Maxipad 10/27/2005
I look forward to the day that Jim runs for president and becomes a household name to everyone. War-the icon of radio sports! War- Jim Rome I'm out
KJL 10/19/2005
Rome was good when I first caught on and after a few years the show is the same ol' BS, spitting drink on keyboard, telling stories about the crew who I could care less who is your board op, and being a Pac 10 homer and trying to act like your not. Just admit it Rome! You will soon turn into Dan Patrick if you haven't already.
ryan_burger2 09/06/2005
His insight is hilarious, especially when he goes on and on about the same story. Some people are bored by it, but to me the topic becomes even more entertaining. To this day I laugh when the Ashlee Simpson audio from the Orange Bowl is played. You make me wanna...SCREAM!! The annual Smack-Off is another favorite of mine. Truly unique and very funny.
mgleason51 08/05/2005
His show is like listening..funny 10 years ago...a bore now...a broken record...the clones are a bunch of unemployed morons....take a hike...
Ouzo Tower 04/17/2005
The original Sports Nazi! I really used to be a big fan but his schtick has gotten old. I do wish our local station carried him but they dropped him last year.
Secretariat 04/09/2005
Best sports guy there is... Out!

HE is too funny. But his callers, ahh, please, no more. He should just read emails and faxes, have guests, and do his own takes.
