So do any of you remember the air filter he recommended about 10 or so years ago? It's not the Eden Pure.

A real old-time radio announcer, probably the last one. He's got the voice and in his lucid moments, he is still first rate. The mix of news and advertising is disconcerting to some, but in the fifties that is how it was done.
huekucket 10/19/2008
His voice is marvelous and his anecdotes fascinating.
Texasdad 10/03/2008
This used to be a good, broad, quick commentary... until Paul Harvey Jr. started... P.H. Sr. covered world events daily. P.H. Jr. didn't even mention the VP debates last night. Only listed a few strange science headlines. Now he starts with the ads... P.H. Sr. had the right formula that made his commentary renound.

The best

i first heard him on the radio in the fifties, he has been around forever, and there is a good reason.

One of radio's most beloved statesman! Paul Harvey is America's wise and thoughtful Granddad.

Good Day.............

Holy cow, this guy has been around forever! I remember hearing him in my mom's station wagon when I was a little kid back in the early 70's. Funny, but he doesn't sound any different now. I think he has passed some of the Patriarch's in age. Anyway, he always has interesting little stories to tell. He's been very good for radio all these years.

Mr. Harvey has had a long career in radio and I hold him in the highest respect. I trust his commentary because he is straight up about what he believes. Like all the radio hosts I like, I would feel very comfortable sitting on the front porch and listening to him. If I could talk with him I am certain it would be a conversation and not an arguement.
nikechillemi 10/14/2007
Charming. One of a kind.
Loerke 08/18/2007
Even my first-grade teacher didn't read books to us with the same level as condescension as this fool. He may have recently retired, but don't worry, you can always turn to Bob Costas for more folksy pretentiousness.
ma duron 08/18/2007
Not a meeting of the minds here, but certainly a principled, if sometimes abrasive, commentator who has made a consistent and worthy effort of articulating intelligently the views and purpose of a vanishing generation.
Alex32 07/27/2007
Terrible and annoying. He just reads the headlines about nothing and he does it terribly.
Biggoof 07/03/2007
PSF11 You said it very well! Paul Harvey has been a great pleasure to listen to for a lot of yrs! Don't worry about the mindless dribble that was posted earlier. They are the type that can't even pull their pants up!

I came in here to leave a review about one of the nation's most beloved icons of the airways. This is a man who has entertained audiences for the better part of a century and is still going strong. I'm 41 and rember his voice on the radio from early childhood. His idiosyncratic delivery and twist on stories have a kind of universal appeal. However, having read a number of the reviews in here and the cheap, despicable attitude toward this man, and the elderly in general, makes me feel any in-depth review would simply be throwing more pearls to swine. In a perfect world, you'd think young people would appreciate being lucky enough to have someone with his experience still around to give them a first hand perspective from the past AND present! When you're 90 years old-- hope you're a TENTH as wise and full of energy as Paul Harvey and that no one gives you HALF as much disrespect.

was on the air befor there was radio

That condescending baritone voice reminds me of a complete asshole schoolteacher I once had. He thought he had the answers for everyone if they would just buckle down, stop questioning authority, get a nice conservative haircut, be overwhelmingly polite to everyone and wave the American flag at every opportunity. Paul Harvey sounds like a ghostly voice from the Eisenhower administration. He sucks!
cmhartsock 11/14/2006
He is awful and outdated. Can barely read the script. Get rid of him.
prsanford 09/15/2006
White haired walker-jockeys revere Paul Harvey as the voice of scientific authority even when he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. The idea is to seamlessly blend "news" and paid snake oil advertisements, then rely on the senility of the audience to confuse the two. It's wicked effective for sponsors. This is why Paul Harvey is one of the highest paid radio personalities in history. If my judgement were based on commercial success he would get five stars. But the rest of the story is that he is also the world's biggest douche bag full-of-crap ass clown.
blue47 09/12/2006
Another senile old fart
carlshomeoffic e 08/31/2006
I have listened to him for years.
Okidoki 08/31/2006
Entertaining..
mad02 08/02/2006
there is no one comparable to Paul Harvey............he is outstanding.......enjoy his show very much.
Silver Eagle 252 04/02/2006
Undeniably the last of a dying breed. A great storyteller and a pleasant change of pace. I don't know that I could listen to two or three hours straight though. His perspective is straightforward. If you don't get a chance to hear him, pick up one of his books. It's not quite the same, but the insight into human nature is right on.
davidspeaks 12/09/2005
it will be a sad day when he retires. his son is a duplicate of him, just not the same voice. GOOD DAY
Battue 10/20/2005
Irreplaceable, need I say more.
GenghisTheHun 09/01/2005
I usually like old Paul's commentary. He is a part of America.
TIEDIE 09/01/2005
Ithought he was dead way lame commentary last I listened his show was just an infomercial for BOSE suks bad
James76255 05/16/2005
Probably the last of the great radio personalities. He doesn't rely on bells and whistles or hateful comments, he's a story teller. I recommend everyone give him your ear at least once before the art form is gone forever.
CastleBee 05/11/2005
He's so old that when you hear his voice you feel as though you've veered into the Twilight Zone. It's like you're suddenly a confused character in a time travel episode where you're innocently adjusting your radio and suddenly you've zipped back to about 1948. Or, maybe it just seems weird because he actually knows how to enunciate.
37102002 04/03/2005
Has there been a better story teller than this guy?
beckam 03/29/2005
How can anyone put negative marks against Paul Harvey? He's so stinkin cute! Love the Rest of the Story.
fabcheetah 01/28/2005
A classic voice of reason and accountability. If that's right-wing mouthpiece, then I don't want to be left. Why are Left-wingers so afraid of people like that?
edt4 01/21/2005
So tired, so old, so boring...
CanadaSucks 09/12/2004
Does this fossil know what day it is?
Rustler 09/03/2004
A Slimey mouthpiece for the right wing. Isn't he almost dead?
Molfan 08/20/2004
it has been awhile since I have heard him. but i always liked the restof the story tales he would tell. He had a nice sense of humor without being dirty. I do not remember him being nasty.
Vindicator58 07/31/2004
There will never be another! He is great!
TriSec 07/02/2004
I LOATHE Paul Harvey. Smarmy and smug, and saccharine.
ironlaw 05/31/2004
a radio legend
MysteryMan? 05/26/2004
A long time ago, when I was young, I used to regard his voice as grandfatherly & wise. Today, he seems to serve as a detour that ultimately ends up on the same street as Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly & others of that ilk. Good.....Day.
marymary 05/12/2004
Paul Harvey precise and to the point always regardless of whoes feet he stepped on. Way to go Paul, thank you.
soprano1 05/06/2004
Paul Harvey has always and continues to bring up issues which are overlooked by the regular media; television and radio. His technique in bringing about his message is one that will be sorely missed by many, particularly myself, when he decides to retire. He is never boring, always challenging people's opinions with his presentation of current information in a different light, exhibits high standards in everything he reports on, and has a remarkable sense of humor. Journalists could learn alot from this great commentator.
marcm9999 05/03/2004
Once one of the all time greats. Way past his prime. Really needs to retire.
kolby1973 04/20/2004
His voice alone demands attention, a great radio personality who I will never forget growing up. He is always so upbeat and positive, and he actually makes listening to radio advertisements fun...SUPERB !
Flick01 04/19/2004
The last of the true professional news announcers.
jhodges71 03/30/2004
He used to be so much better. He's not mellowing with age and is becoming increasingly more political. He's losing some of that home spun edge that gave him so much charm.
Moosekarloff 01/19/2004
He's about 957 years old and should have retired two decades ago: another instance of an establishment wank who's old and in the way, clogging up the airwaves and denying others a shot at the limelight while continuing to line his pockets. Although this guy was a groundbreaker, and in his prime had an interesting show, staying too long at the fair has diluted the overall profile. Why do these WWII generation types insist on having to be dragged away from the table screaming and crying instead of gracefully retiring when it's obvious they've passed it? Greedy, egotistical pinheads who have hogged up most of the prime opportunities in virtually every field of endeavor, leaving scraps and crumbs for the younger generations, and Harvey's essentially their posterboy when it comes to broadcasting. Give it a rest already, Gramps. And that's just part of the story...
bigfatlooser 01/14/2004
ive been listening to this old geezer since i was born...a looong time ago. THIS guy rocks. i dont no why he always advertises 'amazing' products such as the Bose radio that actually isnt worth 5oo dollars. o well, this dude rocks
