• January 1988: Roberts canceled the university’s free medical tuition program despite his claim that God had told him to make the medical school a world outreach program.
• March 1988: The medical scholarship fund went bankrupt. Students were required to repay scholarship funds at 18 percent annual interest if they transferred to another school rather than stay at ORU medical school and start paying the high tuition.
• September 1989: Roberts decided to close the medical school and the City of Faith hospital to pay off debts."

I haven't caught his show in about fifty years. In the 1950's he was on with his healing ministry. I don't know if he is still doing that or not, but it was interesting to watch. We younger types (in those days) had great fun with it.

I guess I am going to have to catch his show to see what is going on.

It was truly a sad moment for Christianity when this man got on TV and said that if he didn't raise 8 million dollars in a month, then God was gonna kill him. It was an even sadder moment when he DID raise the money. I won't even end this review with my trademark, "Beware this false prophet"...I think that most people are already wise to this man, and the people who aren't...well, not much you can do for them anyway.

You correctly pointed out the incident in which Oral said he saw an 800 foot tall Jesus who told him to get that 8 million or die. This made Christ look like some kind of shake-down artist. You guys can laugh at him all you want, but I was saved through this man's TV shows in the 70's. So stop making fun of Christian TV.

Whether you like this man or not, he belongs in the top ten evangelists. He was a pioneer for Jesus Christ and I, for one, really appreciate his beliefs and efforts.

I think it is EXTREMELY sad that you would still be talking about a bad decision that Oral Roberts made YEARS ago that he QUICKLY repented for. Look at your life: do you want people to forever hold over your head things that you are sorry for and that God has forgiven you for? Let me guess the answer....ABSOLUTELY NOT. If there really was a GOD, he'd have taken Oral along time ago but as has been vented before, He talked to God in 1987 and God said --I'm calling you home old boy UNLESS you can get them fools who send you and the other phony TV evangelists money to cough up another 8 mil in a month and lo and behold PRAISE JESUS, they did. I started out watching Oral Roberts on TV in the 70's and was amazed at his wonderful Biblical teachings. His scriptures regarding seed faith made a big change in the rest of my life. Most of all, he taught me about Jesus as Savior. God Almighty, the Father, is the only source we have - and His Son, Jesus, is the Savior - it's a relationship. Ask Jesus if He is real, to show you - you can't lose. Jesus paid it all. Oral Roberts can only teach and sow his own seed, but we can glean from this preacher even at his age of 88.

Know why I didn't give this rascal 1 star? Because in a strange way, I admire the guy for saying God would end his life if his deluded ill-informed redneck followers didn't fork over a million bucks pronto. That to me is such an over the top display of chutzpah and P.T. Barnum's famous axiom that there's a sucker born every minute that I just HAD to give him an extra star for having the grapes to pull off such a bold stunt. Hell, that one extra star seems a little cheap on my part.

I'm with Ignatius-J-Reilly on this one. Roberts' concept of God is that he's a celestial extortionist. For the right amount of money...seed faith I think is the term Roberts uses...you can buy miracles or good health or avert death. Oral (no need for comment on the name from me) had a prayer tower built so he could isolate himself and converse with his vision of a 90-foot Jesus (Monty Python once did a bit about a 90-foot penguin, but I doubt if Oral is or ever was a Python fan). Somebody else with such a vision might have been committed to an insane asylum. Roberts, however, has been able to build a lucrative empire based on such visions. Long May He Hallucinate!

Condolences to Dr. Roberts on the loss of his darling wife, Evelyn, yesterday. It was through his TV program years ago that I learned about Jesus and accepted Him as Savior. I'll always be grateful for Dr. Roberts.

Dr. Roberts is one of the best. Watching his programs on TV was how I came to realize that Jesus Christ wasn't just a historical figure, but He died for my sins. Oral Roberts should be near the top of this list.

The first of the Money Hungry Preacher Series. He was the one that led to some of the greats such as old Creflo, Swaggart, Benny Hinn and others..

I have studied his life and read his autobiography and he really has been a role model to me.Being healed of TB at the age of 17 when all hope was lost.He had a praying mother and preacher for a father.He he got his call from God to take God's healing power to his generation and build God a university.And Oral faithfully did what God called him for.He taught me how to be a man of God.His life is similar to that of mine I respect him.And he bought to the church a new perspective of healing and sowing a seed.Oral has also bred Men of God like Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar.Truly a man of God.We can all learn from him , how to obey God's call for your life!

One would have to be quite insecure in His/Her theological beliefs to totally discredit the life and ministry of Oral Roberts, first of all the healing ministry involves first teaching God's children what Christ as done for them, victory, healing, prosperity, and then encouraging them to develop their faith to trust God and His Word more and more. It is funny that people discredit Jesus when He says, the works that I do, you will do also, and greater because I go unto my Father Get the principal right people: First teaching, then believing, then recieving. Of course Oral Roberts is still a man, but how critical can we be of a man that helped reveal the True Healing Power of God's word to so many people. How can healing and faith expectancy not be concidered as part of the edification of the church as Paul so exhaustively explains and shows in the epistles.

The reason I gave Oral a 4 rating is because I have seen some of the students that have come from Oral Roberts University. I have seen the God fearing youth that have come from that school. I can't really comment on the claim that Oral would be dead if 8 million dollars wasn't raised because we have to admit that God sometimes does some strange things in our opinions. God has called me to do some strange things. I wonder how todays public would receive a woman who is pregnant stating she is a virgin. Put yourselves two thousand years ago and imagine if this woman would claim that she was carrying the Christ. She would be chastised severely in our society and on this web site. There are many people that come to this site that claim to know God. I know that I know very little compared to many of you, but I have read enough of the bible to know that many strnge occurances happened. What about Gideon, Jonah, Daniel, Moses, etc, etc. I wonder what response someone would get today if someone said that they almost sacrificed their son because God told them to, but was saved at the last minute with another sacrifice. If God is the same today as yesterday, who is to say that God really didn't tell Oral to raise a 8 million dollars. I know this specific site is to critic Oral, but there have been millions of people throughout the world that have been saved through these ministries and that is God's heart anyway. The hungry have been fed, the prisoners are getting visited, the naked are getting clothed, people are repenting, true healings are really happening, I myself have been delivered of porn, drugs, alcohol, cigs, jealousies, hatred, and God has called me to do something that probably would be chastened on this site. I am not a TV evangelist, or pastor, or bible scholar. We need to be careful in how we jusdge people.

I dont know that much about Oral Roberts or his ministries, I seen Him on tv recently once and I really wasnt paying attention, I also seen an old clip of one of his healing session so |I cant go off of any of that so..... The reason why I just had to make a comment is because if I am not mistaken Oral Roerts is like 90 years old so if 15 years ago he killed your cat and poked your wife he had to be 75 years old, I youre going to tell lies at least make them sort of believable like the myfortress.org group. Anyway ministries take money regardless if he did make some strange plea for money so what, we all sin probably just about everyday, thats between him and GOD and obviously he must be forgiven because his ministry is still going strong to this day. It seems like to me if he was such a false teacher and apostate that is ministry would be dust by now like all the other false ministries.

I have followed Oral Roberts for over 50 years and his preaching gets worse with age, as does his focus and theology. I think he has become deluded and has passed it to his son.

Oral is a powerful anointed man of God, he hears God and obeys God. People who live in the flesh day after day and never experience spiritual living. Would never understand, Oral, Hagin, Hinn, Copeland, Meyers, Dollar, Hagee, or any other Word teacher. They find it hard to grasp the principles in their messages because they are quick to judge, and slow to find the truth in Gods word. All of these preachers are anointed to do what the Lord has commanded of them. " Go into all the world and preach the Gospel" I am a spirit and those who worship Me will worship me in spirit and in truth.

He came over to my house 15 years ago and killed my cat; saying Socks was evil!. Then he told me it was a sin to sleep in the same bed as my wife. A few hours later I heard him porking her! What a jerk!

Oral Roberts dedicated his life to Christ. He did everything he did for the Christian movement. He is a true believer who doesn't put limits on God. Many were healed body and sould due to his ministries. His faith in God has brought him to where he is today.
