Oh gimme a break this song wasn't about taking drugs. Sure the title may have come from a child's school picture. Sure there may have been a real girl named Lucy. Maybe the acronym LSD was a coincidence. But the song is a free form hallucinatory ramble that was written by a guy who was at the peak of his obsessive experimentation with mind altering substances and every thing that he produced during the years 1966 to 1968 was in some way touched by his narcotic coloured vision. Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly, A girl with colitis goes by.

This by far is one of my favourite Beetles songs. Although a lot of people assume this was about psychedelic experiences with drug taking (myself included) it's actually innocent. John Lennon's first son Julian brought home a picture of a girl he knew when he was at nursery school (kindergarten) in 1966 called Lucy O'Donnell. He came home and told John "Look Daddy, it's Lucy in the sky with diamonds" thus inspiring this song. Lucy passed away recently due to Lupus and they ran a small article about it in the British press.

Good song on a great album, nobody should have attempted (even as a joke) to record this as all such attempts denigrated the original, including Elton John's fiasco. (Am I being followed around this list by an unhelpful gremlin? )

I love the Sgt. Peppers album and this is one of my favorites on it. Cap is right in that it is best when listened to in context to the entire album. Sgt. Peppers is best enjoyed when you listen to it all the way through.

No matter what you say about this song it is still a wonderfull song about drugs or something else whatever but i like listening to this song because the soothing silly words just make me happy.

It doesnt matter whether this is or isnt about drugs. The beatles were open about their drug use so why do people want to think it is?

Misconstrued as an LSD song. It is a really good song though.

Probably the best drug song ever written. Makes you want to try LSD so you can see the things John Lennon did.

Yeah, this one took on new meaning after 'indulging'. It still amazes how something recorded 36 years ago can still sound so good.

Risky hit lyrics for the era. Stared at the album cover all Summer of 66, or was it 67, while listening to the songs. Great intro to LSD. Tried it 4 years later.
