My wife and I have just given-up on Stop & Shop store 893 in Morris Plains, NJ. Many of the store personnel are hostile, they lie, area management is even more hostile and upper management is singularly unresponsive. See http://BarbaraBroido.wordpress.com for four cartoons on the subhect.

Shop & Steal. Generally speaking, if the food looks edible, I don't give a shit where I get it from. No better, or worse, than Shaw's, Foodmaster, Winn-Dixie or any of the myriad of chain stores ripping customers off with month old meat and fish from the Mystic. What makes S&S so special is now the customers can turn the tables on the pricks. About a year ago, they instituted a self-service checkout complete with barcode reader and a license to steal. You grab a product, scan the code with the reader and it adds it to your list. Gives a running total of what you've spent and bought and also helps with inventory control. When finished, you simply scan the barcode above the terminal and it automatically shows what items you've purchased and the total cost. Perfect, in theory. No need to wait in line for some checkout artist to spend twenty minutes processing your order. Great you say? So do I, though not for the same reason as you pure of heart souls. Now me being me, the first t... Read more

ABSOULTLEY TERRIBLE. i worked at the one in west islip new york for a couple of months till they fired me for a bullshxt reason. Just because they OVERHIRED and i know thatrs it they lie and are all cliche. and half of the managers family members work there and get treated better and paid more. The union is useless. The managers there are idiots. I worked my asss off for them and thats how they treated me if your not a 'favorite' expect to be fired. Also dont even think of asking for a day off you wont get it youll get longer shifts the day u asked off for. ALso 35 to 40 hours a week sounds about right. Expect to wor kALLL WEEKEND unless your a 'favorite'. I cant even discribe how nasty they are to you esp when your a new cashier dont even think about asking the guy whos the csd or w.e will just roll your eyes and complain to you how you should know. TRY TRAINING ME THEN YOU IDIOTS. There foods overpriced there backroom is DISGUSTING. people dont put the perishable returns back ti... Read more

I am rating stop & shop overall, however the one I go to is in New Rochelle. It is across from my college which is Monroe College. Stop & shop is really over priced im always amazed at the fact that people shop there. It just seems like every single product they sell is at least 3 dollars more than every where else. I guess this is the reason I do my grocery at walmart and target. I go to stop & shop as a very last resort or to buy cornbread. They have the best store bought corn bread it is very moist and tasty. I usually make a special trip just for that. Everyone should start doing grocery at walmart and target, you will see a major differnce in savings.

The Grafton, MA location is lousy. The store itself seems a little dirty/unkept. The meat has to be the cheapest, toughest, tastless meat you can get! The produce is often bruised and just plain poor quality, even when in season. It is often difficult to find good brand names of many items I use. It's like they just stopped carrying many brands, or replaced them with their own "Stop and Shop" brand. Obviously they are cutting back on their spending, but definetely don't pass that savings on to the customer. Roche Bros. is better for quality, even Shaw's is a step up from Stop and Shop.

"Stop and Drop Your Wallet" In the NY area - this is definetely not for the budget minded shopper. However, they do have some great items that can't be found in other stores - a wide organic product selection, tropical fruits, etc. The thing that turns me off about this store is LONG LINES. Every one I go to in Rockland county, NY there is always a line, no matter which one or what time of day or day of the week I go. It seems they hire slow, dopey cashiers which have no incentive for moving fast. How about a contest?

Always clean, bright, well stocked. A good variety of things, fresh produce. A little more expensive then discount places, but worth it a lot of the time.

Am I crazy or we talking about the same store? Stop & Shop is owned by Royal Ahold, a Dutch company - and they are usually the most expensive store here. Their circulars even show sale items at higher prices than most everyone else. Yes, their food selection is great and their produce fresh, but most supermarkets are very similar and I go with the best deals. I usually shop at Kroger or ShopRite.

I like it here. I think its a warehouse style, the one in Plano. So it's not like luxury shopping, but what I do like, is I can get some hispanic type foods for decent prices and not only that a lot of other grocery stores don't sell the real authentic stuff.

There stores are huge, clean and typically stock some of the more hard to find foods that can't be found elsewhere. Plus, the lighting is extrodinary! You don't realize what the best in grocery stores is until you've gone to Stop & Shop.

S&S; has great store brand stuff. Cheap prices. Great deals. Shop the circular and stock up, these stores rule. Clean, well lit, and super stores have crazy amounts of goods.

All of their stores are generally clean, well-kept, well-lit, spacious, and are not overly expensive. Nothing to complain about here.
