Very strong and effective. Lasts longer than the mint mouthwashes.

After an appt. with the dental hygienist, she said I should use Listerine. I tried the Vanilla Mint and it's very harsh, so can't imagine the original. It's supposed to kill bacteria that cause plaque and gingivitis. It has a rather high alcohol content, but I'm not sure if exposure time & again to alcohol is really good, esp. if bacteria over time develop stronger, mutated strains. I thought that was the reason not to use antibacterial anything, unless in the hospital setting. I will get a recheck in about 5 weeks to see if it made a difference and will report the results. UPDATE:  My last checkup was much better, so I'm seeing results. I swear the green shaded Vanilla mint was turning  my teeth yellow, so I have whitened them. Now I switched over to the blue Arctic Mint with tartar control. :)

Ari Dubov Listerine is good but in moderation, as a dentist I am not a big fan of constant exposure to alcohol in the oral environment, another great choice is Natural Dentist Healthy Gums Daily Oral Rinse, no alchol, works great. Ari Dubov www.Paramusdentist.com

Over the years, in my profession, I met many people who drank Listerine. They were hopeless, skid row bums, (now we call them homeless,) who would cadge a few coins from begging and then go to the discount or Dollar Store and buy another bottle. You can't believe what this stuff does to a person.

I especially like Listerine Advanced. It gives me that "back-from-the-dentist" feeling every time I use it.

It's the good old standard. The same yucky taste that takes getting used to, that you remember. However, it is a superior product for cleaning and disinfecting teeth and gums. In fact, my dentist told me that they run Listerine through their equipment regularly to clean it. That shows how powerful this mouthwash really is. If a dentist uses it to clean, it really must be powerful stuff.

Grand stuff but it burns my tongue after eating red onions, 21.6 per cent alcohol too, great with some coke or pepsi!.....

I've been using Listerine since I was a kid and I trust it the most, especially since it has the ADA approval. For those who think of it as Blisterine since it can be overpowering, just water it down.

Listerine works very well. Unlike other mouthwashes, it really does an effective job of reducing plaque and preventing other dental problems.

This is the only mouthwash my dentist recomends, and since I started using it 10 years ago, I've had perfect checkups - no more plaque. Listerine is the only mouthwash that prevents & reduces PLAQUE and GINGIVITIS and KLLS GERMS. Listerine FIGHTS BAD BREATH, it's not a mask for bad breath like Scope and all those other minty fresh rinses.

This is the only kind i use. It leaves you mouth fresh and ya it can burn but its worth it.

My Father used to use this stuff on me and my brothers when we were little kids for cuts and scrapes, and let me tell you---it was pure hell ! But I do enjoy watching people wince when they are using it for mouthwash.....

Efficient to kill germs but many dentists told me that any mouthwash that contains alcool (19% for Listerine ) is bad for the Oral Mucosa ( it MAY lead, after many years, to cancer ). That's why I recommend any mouthwash that doesn't contain alcool : ex. Oral-B anti-bacterial mouthwash.

Listerine is by far the worst tasting stuff on the planet. You might as well rinse with gasoline - it would at least taste better. Scope works just as good and tastes great!!

I’ve tried many different brands and flavors of mouth wash, but Listerine is by far the best one in my book. It not only attacks the germs that cause bad breath but can also be used as a topical cleanser for minor wounds.

I've never found anything that works any better than this old standby. They've tried to improve the flavor with mint or what have you, but I still prefer the original. It is potent and works well for anything from bad breath to an irritating sore throat.
