I really have no problems with PHX although I have been there rather infrequently. I understand that heat causes slowdowns, but I have always avoided that. (Arizona is great in the Winter! Maybe we should hope for global cooling.)

One of the better airports in the US. It consists of three terminals, terminals 2-.4. Terminal 1 was converted to a parking lot some time ago. Constant lane restrictions in the area give you hope that perhaps some new terminal is being built, but the traffic cones appear to be some sort of quantum effect, appearing one day and slowing you down, disappearing the next, with no visible signs of construction activity. Anyhow, on with the review: Like anywhere in the Phoenix metro area, you are out of luck here if you have to rely on public transport. You will have to ask at the info desk to find out where the bus stop is. If you do find it, it is a cheap $1.25 to Tempe and further on the Red Line. There are lots of restaurants and shops before the security checkpoints, which is a pro and is not a given at all US airports, as I have seen elsewhere. This allows you to prolong your goodbyes with relatives and friends. Terminal parking is very convenient. However, they have recently central... Read more

In Short Sky Harbor's three-terminal passenger complex is less than five miles east of downtown Phoenix. Sprawling Terminal 4, named for U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater, serves Phoenix-based America West Airlines. Stuck on a layover? The upper level concourse convergence in Terminal 4 is a good place to eat, relax or kill time with some shopping. United, TWA, Delta, America West and British Airways airline club members have access to lounge and office facilities. Travelers can also buy stamps, make copies and send faxes at information booths.

A surprisingly well-run airport, convenient to get around and through, very close to downtown Phoenix, and as an aside possibly the best named airport in the country.

A very nice airport. Cleverly named. The only downside is that they have to close it when the temp. gets to 120 degrees or higher because the runway starts to get soft.

Clean. Some nice designs inside. Lousy food. Nice shops although limited in variety. Lots of books. Not good for huge crowds. Sunny. Sometimes too hot. Easy for planes - not so for cars. Lot of space to get alone and sit. Overhead TV at gates play CNN too loud, too long: Ted Turner has bribed airports and he, plus airport mgrs, should be executed. Overall adequate - slow paced and nothing hard about it.

The other reviewers obviously haven't had to change planes with less than an hour layover, trying to get from a gate on the far end of the A concourse to the far end of the B concourse...moving sidewalks nonwithstanding, it must be at least a 2 mile trek. This admittedly beautiful facility needs more than just moving sidewalks...it's so large that mass transit would be more appropriate. We were lucky....it was late evening when we were making our trek, and we were given a "lift" by an airport employee. Without his assistance, I'm sure we would have missed our connecting flight. So, high marks for customer service, zip for convenience.

Haven't traveled much, but when I have been here it's been fairly nice. Like most airports, all of the roads around the outside of the airport are confusing until you're used to them. But, inside it's pretty nice.
