Total liars. Down payment quote was low right up until they are ready to process your payment....just then your quote magically goes up by $50 00 or more without a reasonable explanation (I haven't received a ticket or had an accident in over twents years) . I should have followed my gut feeling, that this is a company that shouldn't be trusted. They also jacked my monthly payment by more than $8.00 a month by saying it's a processing fee. In this day of age where just about everything is paid online I can't imagine why it would cost $8.00 to process anything unless you are trying to rip people off. I will admit that the customer reps were nice...but they lie to keep a job, I guess.

i was hit by someone with esurance. they said they wouldn't pay for all the damages because they said it was not all caused by the person who hit me. unfair. my car was perfect before this person hit me. now my car will not be repaired because they don't want to give me the full amount to fix my car. this insurance company is a scam. please go with another company and save you and potentially another person from loss. also, they are super hard to get a hold of. they almost never return your calls or are never there. plus, from what others have said if it is your car that is damaged and you have full insurance it is still hard to get them to repair or replace. basically, they take your money and don't give you any service. i recommend american family over this company any day. buyers of esurance beware. please don't go with this company.

The first time I purchased a policy from Esurance I received a great quote. When it came time to renew the second 6 months of the policy, it went up almost $100 without notice. I called Esurance to inquire as to why. I was told it was because of a state wide increase. The second year renewal was again increased by almost another $100 for six months. I canceled. Just a year ago, I was looking for a better rate and gave Esurance another shot. The quote I received was just $385 for six months, so I decided to go with it. My renewal for the second six months went up to $487. Again no notification before hand. I called and was told the increase was because of a state wide increase. After three times, you'd think I'd have learned. I knew it was going to happen again, but I procrastinated and didn't get quotes from other companies. Sure enough, today....I checked my online bank statement and there it was. Esurance had withdrawn $587, again without prior notice. Again I called and was again ... Read more

I did not actually purchase their insurance yet. I just got a quote. Did the quote on the internet and then called in to make sure I had it filled out right so I was comparing apples to apples. Then I told the rep that I had an accident just over a year ago that was not my fault so I did not mark that I had any claims. He said just to be sure he was going to mark it as a accident but not my fault. Well that increased my monthly quote by $20.00. It was still cheaper than my current insurance but I did not feel it is fair to increase someone's rate over an accident that they did not cause nor did not have to file a claim with my current insurance company. The claim is being handled by the business the guy works for who ran me (while 6 months pregnant) off the highway! Well I thought before I jump in to another company I would read reviews on them and boy am I glad I did. The very few positive reviews do not by any means out weigh the negative. I will continue to shop around and... Read more

LESS THAN 1 STAR! Actuall like Negative 100 stars! I only bought esurance becasue I arrived at a dealer with no insurance. 1) I was on my parents insurance prior to this and they told me to send a decloration page in showing this. Sent it....well i was insured for a different car...this became a problem, we had to schedule a phone confrence for verification with my prior ins. 2) this week (5 months into my 6 month policy) I EMAILED THEM and said" I need to know when my policy cancels/is ending, I need the date." the computer generated an automatic policy cancelation request. i get an email that says "your policys been canceled" I call customer service...They said it was a computer error and i am reinstated...get a reinstatement email....then i get another policy cancelation email/refund processed email. I call and they notify me I have been cancelled for 2 days. I got up set the rep checked notes. he admitted a computer/esurance error... but couldnt correct ti untill i returned t... Read more

I totally agree, esurance is terrible. We had a semi truck drop a tarp in front of our BMW about 3 years ago.. In CA, we have the right to take our car to ANY repair facility we want.. they fought with us over taking it to BMW’s recommended facility, and refused to pay the claim for over 3 months. Nobody was injured, but I checked my wife’s driving history report, and it lists ‘At Fault Accident with Bodily Injury over Threshold’ - Probably so they could try to charge us more for it… good thing I cancelled right after that horrible ordeal… These people are idiots.

Esurance left me out to dry. They are terrible in the claims department. They will turn their back on you to save a buck. They let an accident that was not my fault be charged to me because it was minor, and cheaper to pay the claim then to defend it. It now cost me $700 a year more. They are a terrible company. John G

Just to clarify, to submit my experience with Esurance, there has to be at least 1 star in the rating. In reality, I give them zero stars. I was hit, head on, last week. The other person started to turn in front of me. She was ticked and the police report said it was her fault. She even admitted to the police that she was turning in front of me. Then why is Esurance treating me like I am trying to defraud them. They won't pay the rental car. They don't return half of my calls. They told me it was my responsibility to contact the other insurance company. After asking her what was the point of having insurance if you aren't going to do your job, she called the other company. They tried talking me into paying for the car, then going after the other insurance company for reimbursement. I have already been switched to another representative, who also doesn't return calls. I tried to call a supervisor, but when I dialed 0 on their phone tree, it said the operator wasn't available. After mul... Read more

These guys are the WORST. Do NOT be TRICKED into buying insurance from them. I was quoted a policy price by an agent that I accepted and then bought the insurance. After doing so I had the policy roughly four weeks before being notified that the "conditions" of my policy were not correct and I owed another $167 on the policy. EXCUSE ME?!? This company gives ME the price and then changes it a month later? And the WORST past is they charged me $50 to cancel their piece of shit policy as well. DO NOT GET ESURANCE, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! THEY ARE A BAD AND DISHONEST COMPANY WITH TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY!

I love Esurance car insurance, I wouldn't trade it in for the world. The whole team, is polite and they will work with you through any circumstance in which you might fall behind on your payments. Not to mention the unbeatable prices..I have already had six of my friends switch to Esurance (they should hire me lol jking). You would think because they are strictly online the service they provided would be anything but top notch. But boy was i wrong. I mean its so affordable that almost anyone can drive without the hassle of not being able to afford their car insurance and i believe this is one of the reasons why i rate Esurance nations #1 car insurance experts. If you think your car insurance is the best I can guarantee you Esurance will prove YOU WRONG..Job well done Esurance, keep up the good worker.. I just wanted to let you know that I was a little hesitant to switch to Esurance because I didn’t know much about the company and the rates seemed too good to be true. When I did a search on Google, I found many complaints about claims and service and funds being withdrawn from bank accounts unauthorized. I reasoned with myself that people only post the bad stuff. So I want to post the good stuff! Go figure that shortly after switching to Esurance, we had to file a claim, which is very rare. I reported the claim and was contacted by my claims representative within 12 hours. He was extremely friendly and helpful. I was provided with a reputable body shop that contacts me every 48 hours with updates on my vehicle. I was able to view claims status, even pictures of my vehicle online, which was very convenient. Payment was made by the insurance company to the body shop within 5 days. No additional funds have been withdrawn from my account either, only what was agreed upon at the t... Read more

I have had Esurance for quite some time and I must say that I have been hard pressed to find better rates with insurance companies other than with USAA. I used USAA several years ago until I was rear-ended, and my $23,000, 1 year old car was totaled for a settlement of $8000, and their gap insurance only covered up to an additional 25% of the settlement toward the loan leaving me with about $12,000 of debt on a car I did not own. Recently my current vehicle was totaled through Esurance and I must say I was quite surprised to find out that Esurance was giving me a very fair amount for it. However, Esurance has been extremely slow at getting through the processes of a total loss. It has been 24 days now and counting. But I would rather wait for a fair settlement than to have an expedited terrible offer. If you get Esurance I highly recommend getting very good rental coverage. other than the slow processing I am pretty happy with Esurance and would recommend them.

Esurance is wonderful! I've had them for several years and will not go with another company. After problems w/another company I switched to Esurance. Their rates are better than other companies. I have had to file claims with them and their customer service has been wonderful. They return calls, they are friendly & polite over the phone, they get things taken care of fast. The only complaint that I have is that they sent me to a major name repair shop that caused additional damage rather than fixing the car. They paid for another repair shop after I reported the problems and they listened & cared about my bad experience.

Worst insurance company I have ever worked with. Negative stars if it was an option. I will never go back to them and have promised them I will encourage everyone I know to use any other insurance company BUT them. I had a car totaled in a simple situation (natural storm) that took them 3 months to act on and even now (3 1/2 months later) I am still battling with them on the same issue that would have taken any other insurance company to resolve in weeks. that is- when I can get anyone on the phone. Most weeks, my phone calls and voicemails just remain unanswered. Apparently they do not believe in helping THEIR customers out in any way. Slimey in their dealings. Worst customer service I've ever experienced.

Paid online for insurance in full... then every other day, I was getting emails from them requesting more information and more money. After the last email, asking me to prove that I was not garaging the car in GA, I canceled them. ( I live in Fl.).

I made my 5th payment on 11/23 (one day late) $69.91 because I change my debit card number because they kept taking different dollar amounts on different days. They made me pay on 12/05, $63.13 and again on Christmas 12/25 $69.56 without me knowing they just took money from my checking account. They keep taking money twice from my checking account and their reasons are confusing. The dollar amount is inconsistant. I told them I'll make the payments, I don't want them just taking money out of my checking account or I wont do business with them. They promised they would not. Then they do it again 3 weeks later on 12/25. I'm pissed because it's overdrawn my account because I didn't expect a charge until 1/05. They say they are open 7/24 - bullsh!t. I've been calling for 3 hours they say system down for maintenance and staffs leaving shift.

I used esurance because they were the cheapest that I could find and being in Arizona (some of the highest insurance rates in the country due to the higher number of uninsured motorists) insurance for cars is always expensive. I had the minimum coverage ($15,000/$30,000) and was paying almost $1,000 for six months. I couldn't switch because they were going to charge a $50 early termination fee (which should be illegal) so I had to wait until my renewal time came up. When it did, I went to AmFam and got even better coverage ($100,000/$300,000 plus extras) and was paying almost $250 less for the 6-month term. Now, my brother is leaving esurance as well since he's got a paid-for 1996 VW with minimum coverage, no accidents/tickets on his record for almost 7 years and is paying almost $650 for 6-months!! That same *exact* policy at AmFam is costing him $450 ($200 less!) for 6-months! Even when my brother got married, he called esurance to notify them since most insurance companies pro... Read more

Esurance is a scam. Purchased thier insurance on line, Was quoted one amount which I paid and they got thier payment. They "Discovered" that I had less coverage with my pervious insurance company so they raised my rate because I was getting more coverage. So i asked them to drop my coverage to what my pervious compnay had my coverage at.. THEY STILL WANTED TO CHARGE ME MORE MONEY this is a scam. I would ask for my money back but I am sure they will take months to refund it so I am just going to stick with them for the 6 months and find yet another company then.. There has to be a honest insurance company out there somewhere.

After my husband got a DUI (did not get into an accident or hurt anyone or anything..luckily)...esurance was the ONLY company that would even consider insuring him. We also have a teenage son who started driving. I thought the insurance premium would be insane and it actually is the lowest we have EVER paid (we've had Allstate, State Farm, Farmers and Metlife). After using them for a year accident free, I am happy to report that our insurance for the 3 vehicles has dropped $300. I couldn't be happier. I do have to admit that we have never had to deal with a claim. I find the web site easy to follow and never was on hold for more than just a few minutes. We get notification via email every month as to when and what is being taken from our bank account and its has never been different. Esurance works for our family.

I have had Esurance for four years- it is fine if you don't need it. But I got in one accident where there was a small amount of damage to a traffic sign and Esurance won't return my phone calls, letters, or e-mails. The State Department of Transportation is now filing a lien against my house for the unpaid bill for the traffic sign damage. They are also in the steps of garnishing my wages. Thanks Esurance for taking my $97 a month and not helping me in the ONE time I needed it. I'm going to cancel ASAP.

I signed up for an esurance auto policy on June 11th, explaining that I was in California for an extended work assignment however my home is in NY, the clerk assured me that would not be a problem and I paid for a 6 month policy. 3 days later I got a very discourteous phone call to "remind" me that if I did not have my vehicle inspected at one of their designated inspection sites my insurance would be cancelled. However, he could not provide a location other than in NY and ended the call. I called e-surance to find out where to take my vehicle, and they had no locations in California for a NY resident. I cancelled the e-surance policy after I signed up with Progressive (which didn't have a problem with getting a NYS vehicle inspected in CA) and that's when things went from bad to worse! The three days of insurance were going to cost be in excess of $100. (A six month policy was only $268.) After speaking to a clerk, and then another clerk, and finally a supervisor, she agreed th... DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!! I had auto & home insurance with them for 3 years and over the course of those 3 years they seemed to find ways to nickel & dime me on both my auto & home owners insurance. Things to take note of: 1. They are not rated in JD Powers consumer report! 2. They have 355 complaints against them! (as of 8/17/09) 3. Their billing system has at lot of hidden flaws! Example if you relocate to another state and your policy changes. The system waits 2 months before it will recognize that the previous month bill or the old policy hasn’t been billed. Then they want 2 months payment in full! (New and old policy payments). Instead of continue to bill you at the set date and then do any proration if needed? 4. The Esurance representatives really push you to use debit card or credit cards payments. (Easier for them to make immediate charges without notification)! 5. They will not call you if there any important updated information tha... Read more

Awful...my husband in motorcycle accident a year ago, the car that pulled out in front of him was insured by Esurance. Still waiting to settle. THey want us to sign away all our rights. We have police reports and the person was cited ..it was his fault. Esurance are trying to say the case was 'dubious and doubtful'. We have witnesses, My husband went over the top of the car.. he was wearing his full motorcycle gear ( which probsbly saved his life)My husband has never had an accident and has been driving and riding for 30 years. Esurance are trying to bully us... I suggest that everyone with a complaint against them to get in touch with their State Insurance Commisioner..., and file a complaint with them. That's what they are there for and that's what we have done. I give them -5

The car ended up being totaled and they gave me a good offer for my car - $10k+ for a 2002 Subaru WRX or a little over $9k if i wanted the car back. They are the absolute WORST insurance company ever inexistance. We had to pay a fee when our car was repaired, I have never heard that and told the repair that they would not pay for other repairs that were a part of the accident which of course meant that we have to pay ourselves. Too bad you can't leave "0" stars here. Esurance is awful. Their people are rude and incompetent. It all seemed fine til my vehicle was broken into. They have tried to pin it on me as if the damages to my automobile were my fault and not a direct result of the break-in even tho I have provided them with very well-documented police reports that THEY HAVE NEVER BOTHERED TO READ. If you are lured into taking a policy with esurance because of their fun commercials and the promise of savings, just pray you never have an incident. You will be sorely disappointed. They will not follow up with you. (Take me for example, it's been over 3 weeks and these people STILL HAVEN'T taken my formal statement. I'm being told it's going to be basically another 2 business weeks until their investigator gets back to me on that.) I rate it ZERO stars. At first they were great, their website was easy to buy and print my policy and compared to other companies, I thought I was saving money. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I was in an accident this past December in which I totalled my car and sufferred severe back injuries. First, they offerred me about 1/4 of the book value of my car as it was a total loss. I had to spend $500 to hire a firm to fight it for me, which they did a great job and got it at least to 85% of book value. That was the first thing that pissed me off. Now, I have had 3 back surgeries and have not worked since February. I do not have disability through work because my employer is a cheap-ass, but fortunately Michigan law requires auto insurers to pay for lost work time at 85% tax free. Everything was fine at first, checks were coming in on time and they were finally paying my medical bills after my regular health insurance had already paid for everything and then found out that it was due t... You would think that the online process would result in sigificant savings, but having compared several different insurance companies, this carrier is really not that competitive on a price basis. The company must not have good cost controls because a company that doesn't have to pay agent or broker commissions should be able to market a lower priced product.

I bought a policy on a pre-owned 2001 minivan when I returned from Iraq in 2005. The whole online process was impossible as my wife did not have a license at the time yet, and as I was married, they refused to accept the application online, and I had to phone them and explain that my wife did not drive. I needed a car and I needed insurance in a hurry. Before six months was up they tapped my bank account again with no notice (print or e-mail) with a 10% increase! No tickets, no accidents, and a clean record! I called them immediately and got the money refunded and they told me that their policy was to auto charge my bank account early to ensure that the funds were there... I told them that this was illegal. They tried to tell me that there was a 10% early cancellation fee, which I contested. They claimed (get this... here's the winner,) Cell phone companies do it and so do we. Really? If you despise companies having access at will to your bank account and hiding policies, go elsewher... I started with Esurance about 2yrs ago and have never been happy with them...NEVER! I only started with them because I was buying a car on a holiday weekend and no one else was open. The price was extremely high, all I was getting was basic coverage to get the car legal. I figured after the 1st 6mos I'd get a lil bit of a discount and then I could add some more coverage, right. WRONG!!!!! When I inquired about adding coverage the price was so outrageous I just left it alone and figured I'd try it again in another 6mos. What a joke that was, I get my 2nd renewal with them and my permium went up by 40 buck a month. Now mind you I've had no claims whatsoever, so why would it go up??? Oh yeah and I never got a renewal offer stating how much my next 6mos would be they just withdrew the money from my account. So of course I called them to find out what the deal was... You get what you pay for. The prices are competitive, and I never had a problem with them until I got in an accident. I was cut off by a driver who took complete responsibility for the accident. I missed a couple days of work and had to take my car in to an "E-star" repair place for body repair work. About a week later they had ordered the parts and my car had to be dropped off. Only I couldn't drop it off on a Saturday or Sunday, I had to drop it off on a Monday morning because they would not cover a rental car on the weekend. This was completely unrealistic since I leave for work at 6am Monday through Friday. They gave me the run around until finally I was able to find a car I could BORROW (putting my mom out of work for the duration of the repair). An "adjuster" went out to appraise the damage and decided that the electrical problem was "not covered" and only apraised the bumper damage...The electrical problem was caused by the accident! How is it not covered?! Supposedly another adjuster should be appraising the electrical problem but it's been two weeks and i haven't heard anything!! ESurance is terrible! We HAD Esurance for a period. After only having the police for about 2 months, I had to file a claim. The accident was not our fault. We had all the coverage. Unfortunately, when we went to renew our policy, they jacked our rates way up. Again, not our fault in the accident. Beware, if you ever have an accident with them as your coverage, they WILL jack up your rates at renewal.

The customer service at Esurance sucks ass. In the 22 months I was insured with them I called maybe four or five times, usually with just a question re. my policy. There was always a ten to fifteen minute wait on hold, and then half the time the operator I spoke to would be rude, unprofessional, and couldn't answer my question (sample question: why did my rate increase by five hundred dollars in the last six months?). I really dislike this company. I would have cancelled sooner but didn't have the time or energy to shop around.

Would rather rate them a 0. this company is horrible. i was customer for three years, always paid my premiums at six months, never once had a claim and yet my rates consistently went up, just enough to make it less than other places. i finally was able to combine my home owners and auto make it less and these jerks charged me a $50 cancellation fee for canceling one month before the term was up. i have never been charged an early cancellation fee by an insurance company. do not go thru them, it's a horrible company.

Awesome customer service, I called to cancel my policy and got a hold of a cancellation agent who was very professional and gave me great advice on insurance coverages. I told him thanks but the cost is too high, he than lowered my rate with extra discounts. Also offered me quotes to other companies, if esurance was not a right fit for me. I will stick with them for another term. The claims department is also pretty good too, never had a problem with any claim I had in the past. Very good company and does a lot for the environment.

HOPE YOU DON'T GET IN AN ACCIDENT!! Esurance has been fine for me except when I got in an accident. I have the rental agreement on my policy which gives you $25 a day for a rental up to $750...great until I rear-ended a car. According to Esurance, I totaled my car. I was told I get a rental car for 3 days after. ONLY 3 DAYS! Not only did they take my car since it was totalled, but I had no way to get around California. I called to complain and the person handling my claim was no help. I filed a complaint and unfortunately it went back to the guy handling my claim, which made him even more mad. The customer service was horrible. The prices may look great, but don't let it fool you

Esurance, providing the worst Insurance experience ever: I was lured in by a significant savings. Then I had my first accident ever. I lost control of my car in bad weather and ran into a wall. Not knowing any better I called Esurance for help. They filed my clam immediately, however I thought I was filing a comprehensive claim, but they filed it as a collision that was my fault. This is treated the same by the insurance company as if I was driving recklessly and ran into another car. I waited a week and a half to get my car into an 'Esurance approved' shop. Then it took a month before I got the car back. Cost 1600$, of which I paid 1000$. Immediately my premium increased. I thought, ok I expected that. Then, I get my renewal notice for the next period and it goes up again! This time by 30%. Never a speeding ticket or citation with one accident do to inclimate weather and my insurance is 2.5 times as much as my car payment. Please go elsewhere, somewhere you are treated like a person a... Read more

This company is terrible. I used them for a little over a year and wish that I had not. I was in an accident and I had the car towed to a body shop. I informed Esurance where the car was and gave them the contact info. 2 weeks later I received a letter from them stating that they had been to my home 2 times to look at the car & there was no answer! They had my phone number incorrect in thier system. The worst part about it was I only had coverage for 1/2 the cost of a rental car (my fault) so time was a big issue. They finally went to look at my car so the repair shop could start on it 3 weeks after the accident. There was also a situation where I was not notified of an increase in my policy (by email) and it increased by double. Since my payments were direct debited from my account it caused me to accrue 300 dollars in NSF fees from my bank. It took 3 months of daily phone calls and it never did get straightened out. I ended up closing the account they debited out of and pa... Read more

Worst mistake ever to choose Esurance. I switched to State Farms afterward and saved almost $600 for a half yr rate. Not only Esurance is expensive, their service is the worst! The so called "feedback" form from them was never sent to me after i switched. It was extremely hard to get a hold of the claims representative- Shannon Ortega, or the entire office at Sacremento. My calls get forwarded to voicemail of the claims representative, then to the supervisor, then I finally had to leave a voicemail to their office, which no one else picked up. Shannon was rude to me most of the time and was speaking for the other person, instead of me, when I was telling her what had happened. She went ahead and wrote the letter saying i'm 100% at fault even before I can have a chance to talk with her about my side of the story in detail. I also felt she had prejudice against me by making a decision without hearing the entire story, speaking for the other person, and claiming that "[she knows] the law",... Read more

I appreciate the feedback on Esurance because I was going to switch from Geico to save a few bucks; but now I will not because it sounds like it would be a big mistake.
