We live in Northeast CT and like many other reviewers, metrocast for some reason is the only game in town. No FIOS, no ATT Uverse. Internet is always shutting down. Customer service is THE WORST! High Speed internet plus channels 2 thru 98 a wopping $104 and change!

As with all the other rating, yes Metrocast is the WORST ISP I have ever encountered. Speed quoted (when/if you get any service) is throttled by traffic shaping protocols, shaping data transmission rates and transmission control protocols to the point that 6M equals 1.2M, 10M equals 3M (on a GOOD day). Initial install was a farce - of the first 45 days of service we had service that was useable for 17 days. 1) 'It's your modem' since we didn't rent/purchase their over-priced item. 2) 'It's the cable in your home.' (which I propmtly dropped a dedicated line DIRECTLY to the modem from outside WHILE THE TECHS WAITED (15 minutes)). 3) 'It's your Direct TV signal interfering.' - yeah right! Separate cables! 4) 'It's the cable running to your home.' They replaced the cable within a WEEK. Service paid for (6M) still 888k-1.2K. This went on for WEEKS, constant drop outs and still no service. After three months a technician finally got us up to a whopping 3M, great but not the 6M we paid for. ... Read more

Worst cable television and internet service i have ever encountered. Get this nice touch of bull crap....I paid my bill online, but they claim that it takes 2-3 days to process (BS!) so they turned my cable off and now want me to pay a lot of charges to get it back, all because they can't process a credit card immediately like the rest of the civilized world. I know they can do it. We do it where I work, why can't they? They're internet speeds are also a joke. They advertise 3 Mps, but you only get around 125K during OFF PEAK hours.

Someone had mentioned below that Metrocast has no communication between customer service, tech. support and the field techs. This is spot on correct, to the point that there was a system wide problem with the DVR boxes (chances are, if you have one you know about the resetting and the display reading all '8's) and they KNEW it was a software issue in the box, which Motorola had to fix, but they wasted everyone's time and still scheduled service calls for all the bad boxes, claiming it must be a 'signal issue'. Also the techs are GROSSLY underpaid (to the tune of $3-$4 per hour, by industry standards), so you can imagine that they are really happy to get your service fixed while wondering how they will heat the house this winter. FIOS, please hurry!!

Metrocast does indeed suck ass. Overpriced, crooked and shit-ass, unreliable service. BUT, they must also suck some major political dick because in my area, a somewhat rural but with over 100K population, immediately outside a large military base and no competition is allowed. They are the ONLY game if you want anything other than dial up. Even satellite companies won't serve us. WTF?! CATV services are the absolute worst and also extremely overpriced...and rising almost monthly. There is a Verizon fiber optic hub ON MY PROPERTY, but I cannot get DSL. Again, WTF?! The military base has T-1 optic truck lines with 300 yards of my house and yet our small neighborhood of 62 townhomes is "too rural" or insignificant to warrant service by anyone other than Metrocast cable. OBTW, did I mention our county is run by a group of "good ol' boys" that are "county commissioners".

The worst service. I dumped USA telephone DSL for the MetroCrap digital cable and Internet. The installer was quick and I thought everything looked good. When I asked for my DSL buyback credit he stated he needed a cancellation letter. I told him I didn't have that but I had this months bill. He wouldn't take it and told me my credits would be in the Rochester office when I had the cancellation letter. We'll everything was good for 1 month then I got 1 day with no Internet. Stayed on hold for 6hrs, yes that is 6hrs!! and was finally told to disconnect and reconnect my modem. I told him I would do this even though I tried it before and it didn't work. Guess what, didn't work. He told me he couldn't fix it and would have to send a tech out. Well next day Internet was back up and I had them test my connection. Nothing wrong at all, so I told them to cancel my tech call. Well two days later the tech shows up, great communications guys. Then my Internet goes down ye... Read more

THIS IS A PAIN IN THE ASS! DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY. IF METROCAST IS THE ONLY INTERNET IN YOUR AREA, SIGN UP WITH NETZERO'S FREE DIAL-UP, YOU'LL BE BETTER OFF! THey are the worst cable company around. Customer service is terrible and management is even worse. Our internet all of a sudden went out and we called on a Saturday when we were told to do the normal Unplug everything and wait 30 seconds which we have done many times over the past 2 years. Which did not work. We were told by the service rep on the phone that he was not gettinig any reading or activity meaning we had not internet. Well we scheduled a service call for Tuesday the following week due to that was the first opening available. So that would be 3 days without internet. We thought it could be the modem and they wouldn't even let us come down to pick up a new one saying a tech needed to hook it up - umm its not that hard to hook up a modem. So that was that. We then waited Tuesday and what .... nobody shows up. My wife calls Metrocrap at 11:00 am since they were supposed to be here in between 9 - 12 pm . Well we talked with a RUDE manager named Sean,Shawn, however he spells it... Read more

Internet surfing speeds are slow due to packet loss. Service people and tech people from the company cannot agree on what is wrong with my connection, and nobody seems too interested in finding out, so I just get stuck with slow service and no alternate providers. Cost is somewhat high for what it is - for me, slightly faster than dial-up. Altogether, hardly worth it, at least until the problems are fixed. I had Comcast in Concord and it was up to 5 times faster in regards to the normal download speeds that I achieved. Very disappointing so far.

This is a company that does not have any competition seemingly. They have limited there service to 512 down and 256 up. While these are not terrible speeds, the network has very little overhead. The throttled service is unbearable sometimes. I know that the line is capable of 200KBps then I get squelched down to 50-60KBps. I guess I am used to uncapped downloads. Makes this service seem so slow. Price is not terrible service is consistent. Too many lost packets though.
