Been on Paxil 20mg for a long time and I feel great! I have been depressed for so long( about 4 years now) I forgot what happiness felt like. I have not experienced any side effects so I don't know why people are so against it. I take it just like my doctor prescribed and it has worked out great. My opinion, I think people either abuse it or just has a terrible doctor.....

From everything I've read about Paxil it seems to either be very bad for you or very good. For me it is fantastic. When I first started I got every single side effect one after the other but the slowly started to fade. After about a month I was switching doctors and ran out. I went through withdraw for about a week and was crying uncontrollably at the slightest thing and had the brian zaps. Now I've been on it for about a year and I've never been happier. Or actually I had never been happy before. I was never able to enjoy life. I spend much more time interacting with people and actually crave talking to people sometimes, something that never happened in my pre-Paxil life. The only side effects I still have now are overacting sweating and a decreased sexual drive. Both of which I am willing to live with for now. I honestly tell people that I'm only upset that I didn't start Paxil years ago. I can only imagine how much better my high school and college years could have been.

Paxil was a good drug for me. It is good to take while you are trying to get your thought processes in order and learn new thinking patterns. I have overcome the depression, anxiety, and OCD symptoms I used to have. In short the drug helped me to overcome the worst time in my life.

I tried Paxil about 12 years ago and hated it, but am trying it again at a lower dosage. It calms my troublesome, recurring thoughts, and so far, no side effects like last time. I can think of far worse drugs to take, like Klonopin, which damn near killed me when I was weaning off it. If an anti-depressant works for you, then by all means, take it. It sure beats sticking your head in the oven, right??

Research has determined that drugs, although helpful, should not be considered the end solution for eliminating anxieties and panic attacks. Drugs should be used to help the sufferer cope with their condition. Overcoming anxieties requires a retraining of the brain, by developing a complete understanding of Panic Attack Symptoms and causes. Once the knowledge has been obtained, there are very simple techniques that are proven to be very effective in completely eliminating anxieties and panic attacks. Use the drugs to help you cope while developing your knowledge.

STAY AWAY!!!  I suffer from anxiety and was given Paxil.  It gave me insomnia for a week!!  My heart beat so fast that I thought it was going to pound out of my chest.  I went to the emergency room and the doctor wanted me to take valium with the paxil.  WTF?  I was taking the paxil to calm me down not rev me up!I stopped taking paxil, it took about a week to fully recover from the side effects.  Doctors tend to prescribe things like paxil, zoloft and other SSRIs too quick in my opinion.  Please think hard before you decide to start any of this medication.  Remember, these drugs mess with the chemistry of your brain, so the decision to start on them should take A LOT of consideration.

Paxil has worked great for my husband. He had severe social phobia and anxiety that he was self-medicating with alcohol. He ended up going into treatment for alcoholism and being put on Paxil (40 mg daily. Since then (Sept of 2001) he is like a new person. He is outgoing and social and enjoying life, free from alcohol abuse. The down side has bee weight gain, decreased sex drive, hand tremors and daytime sleepiness. The change has been so dramatic in him that he wants to try going of the Paxil just to see if his old symptoms return because he finds it hard to believe that just a drug could make such a difference. It worries me for him to withdraw but I think if he experienced some of his old anxieties, he would just go back on it. Life is much better for us both with him on Paxil! Our daughter also takes Paxil for generalized anxiety and selective mutism. It has helped her much, but the change is not as dramatic as in her father. She takes 30mg daily with no side effects at ... Read more

Paxil works great for me. I'm a 37 year old married woman. I'm on 30mg and I've been on it for about 5 months. I was also on it for a short time (1.5 months) a few years ago and it worked wonders as well. My whole life I've been suffering from generalized and social anxiety. My mother suffers from anxiety as well so I know it's hereditary. I was constantly dizzy from anxiety and I finally realized what it was. I didn't like going shopping, driving or anything that could cause even the slightest bit of anxiety. I was also very depressed. Paxil has given me my life back, or actually, to be more accurate, given me a life I've never had before. I feel so comfortable and confident and now know what it finally feels like to be a normal person. For those who say to go for therapy to get over anxiety, etc. I suppose there's truth to it. However, psychologists make lots of money for you to keep coming back for therapy and how many years is that going to take??? To me, Paxil is my ther... Read more

In response to Samjung23's post below: Paxil saves lives. I have known people on the verge of suicide and once on medication, they were okay again. Sometimes it's needed. We AREN'T always responsible for the way we feel. As a mother who has suffered post-partdum depression, I can honestly tell you that sometimes you CANNOT control how you feel. Is it better to sit around feeling depressed all day? Or risk the side effects and take something that can help you get on with things and take care of your children and other things. Perhaps Paxil does not agree with some people, and if that's the case there is Wellbutrin and other types of anti-depressants available. I am not for taking drugs unless it's needed - but in the case of a seretonin chemical imbalance that people can't control - IT MUST be controlled with medication. That is my opinion because I have been there.

I've been on Paxil CR 25 mg for about a week or two and its been a bit rough. Despite my rational side thinking I shouldn't take such a drug, I eventually started it taking one every day in the morning. The first intial days were fine but I started having horrible nausea and vomitting. Driving or even being in a car would make me sick. That has now subsided, but those few days were horrible. I had this weird bout of giddiness the other day as well. I'm still early on in the treatment and haven't expirenced much of a change, though. I plan on sticking with it unless the side effects get too out of hand.

I took Paxil for depression for about 1.5 years, and had NO side effects at all, and NO withdrawal effects when I had to stop taking it. It did help with my depression, and it calmed me, but still was not 100% with it.

I have been on Paxil for a while and it seems to be working pretty good for my anxiety and depression. I still smoke pot 4-5 times per week and it seems to mix just fine. Anyone else mix the two?

I was prescribed Paxil for panic disorder, which stemmed from a chemical imbalance. At the time, I thought it was a life saver- anyone who has suffered through daily panic attacks will try just about anything to make it stop. And it did work, but the long term side effects are pretty bad; I've gained 50 lbs, have very low sex drive, and just want to sleep all day. Although I'm VERY happy to finally be free of my attacks (once a day down to once a month), I am researching other drugs that may help me, without the side effects.

People, stop using these damn drugs. You are responsible for how happy you are, not your body. I happened to start using Paxil six years ago for a couple weeks. It's trippy, it does weird stuff to you, it's quite the experience for someone that's never used drugs. However, I solved my problem myself and got off of it after those two weeks. But still, I used to have a friend who took Prozac or Paxil everyday, like drinking water. He's been on it for ten years. It's the height of irresponsibility. Part of the reason why I stopped hanging around him was his psychotic behavior, even while he was on the drugs. I think that everyone using anti-depressants needs to reevaluate their life and come to terms with themselves, rather than becoming Pfizer or Glaxxo-SmithKline's slave.

Paxil gave me my life back( terrible anxiety). My last resort was to go on medicine and it was the thing that got me back on my feet again. Before I was put on Zoloft and became severely depressed for the week I was on it. It took only a few days of being on Paxil that I realized I began to feel a little better. I have had little side effects--no weight gain and full nights of sleep. Different things work for different people. Just whatever you do, make sure to get help if you need it. Life can so much fun when you're not suffering!

Paxil works as far as curing anxiety and moodiness. But I think it also makes you suicidal at times. Paxil has the absolute WORST side effects when getting off the medicine. Severe dizziness, trembleing and high anxity. If I would have known how bad the side effects were, I would have never started. The medication only remains in your system for 72 hours, so if you miss a few doses, you will experience SEVERE dizziness.

paxil saved me from a horrific depression but I wish I would have known the side-effects because I would have gone off it after a few months. The withdrawl was a nightmare. The long-term side-effects (after 4 months) were big weight gain, insomnia, day-time sleepiness, no sex drive and no motivation. I'm an anxious person but I'd rather be anxious, skinny, sexy, a regular sleeper with energy.

Severe withdrawal effects including inner tremors resembling electric shocks, strange and vivid nightmares, sweats, trembling, dizziness, etc. This is not a drug for fly-by-night, try it out folks. Please note: I understand that there are some folks who cannot survive without medication. This drug may work well for some folks, but for others it is a numbing drug. While it stops obsessive-compulsive thoughts and habits, it may also inhibit other interests.

I started experiencing what I called panic attacks. My doctor prescribed Paxil. I had a drastic decrease the panic attacks. However, I gained 25 lbs.,lost all interest in my hobbies, have no imagination, started sleeping during the day(naps). I am a breast cancer survivor of 13 years, and taking Paxil was a concern for me there too. I went to my doctor today, after taking the paxil for 3 years, and told him I wanted off the Paxil. He prescribed something else. I'll see how this new drug works out now. Over all, the Paxil did what it was prescribed to do. Thank you, desertwestnv

Works great for my mom who has anxiety problems but not for me who has more of a depression problem. I am on Zoloft and it works great but for anxiety, based on my mothers results, it is good.
