I have come lately to his work, I didn't seem to have the TV on much when he first broke out.  I'm tempted to dock him a star for being a bit of a one note comic on the subject of being black in America, but I think he has been the most clever commentator on the subject since Richard Pryor. And from what I've seen, he has learned the importance of not letting his word view deter him from the prime objective - being funny.

Five stars for the standup work. Three and one half stars for his t.v. show. I don't think he is handling the fame very well. Maybe he should take a year off and let things cool off some.

Little tidbit from the Black Santa bit: "Black Santa....? That sh*t would suck...... You wouldn't get your presents t'ill the the 28th, 29th!" "Sorry kids, Santa got caught up with some p**sy in Vegas!".... "Where them cookies at?". Haha, cheers.

Chapelle's Show was great. Dave Chapelle is always able to make me laugh, and he can do so much more than just racial humor. Although I also think that he does the racial stuff much better than anybody else. He is definitely one of my all time favorites, and I can't think of anybody else right now who would do better with a half hour show like he did.

Well-known for "Chappelle's Show", Dave is also an amazing stand up comic. From the stand up shows I've seen, he has wit, fantastic delivery, a unique voice, and even provides some time for introspection once in a while. His stand up works "Killin Them Softly" and "For What It's Worth" are both classics and gave my stomach an exercise. I hope he does another one soon now that Chappelle's Show Season 3 is cancelled.

Very one of a kind and hilarious, loved the basketball game with Prince, Charlie Murphy, Rick James, and the skits that others have noted below. Excellent show.

Dave Chappelle is hilarious. I think he comes across as being naturally funny whereas it seems some of the other comedians come across as if they're trying too hard to get a laugh. His show is outrageously hilarious and I was looking forward to his new season on comedy central, but he felt he had to take a hiatus or something. I guess that means its a wrap for the show, but I'm not that mad cause I can watch the re-runs over and over and still crack up laughing.

Extremely funny and very fresh - The skits on The Chapelle Show were perhaps the funniest comedy sketches seen since the heydays of SNL. Too bad he seems to have self-destructed, but even if he never does anything else again, The Chapelle Show will never stop being be funny as hell.

Incredibly talented and fresh. His routine never becomes boring or repetitive, and he manages to mix it up a little bit instead of focusing on a select few token issues (i.e. politics, race, etc). One of the best modern comedians around.

I love the bit he did about Sesame Street. The Count is a pimp. He's got the cape and everything. UPDATE: The crackheads looking through the window like Jurassic Park was pretty good, too.

He gets a five for his act outside of the Comedy Channel, but on it, he's just not funny. I don't know why. Even worse, he gained a big following among frat boys and other lame college kids, who like lame humor. That was one star off. Now the next two stars come because he has completely abandoned the Comedy Channel, the people who worked on his show and his fans because of his drug problem, conversion to some weird sect of Islam and his inability to handle fame. Chris Tucker is suffering from this same problem. Ladies and gentlemen, your classic flakes. I hope they're enjoying their money, that'll be the last they'll ever see if they don't get their butts back to work soon.

Chapelle is one of the funniest and clever comedians to surface in a long time. His weekly show is by far the best thing on TV right now but it could be far better if HBO or the likes picked him up and let him REALLY do his thing. Rock on Dave.

Chappelle's Show is one I look forward to everyweek. This man is great at sketch comedy. His stand-up is okay. I like the racial jokes he does. Examples: The Ni**ar Family, Black White Supremacist, How Races Respond to Music, etc. The Rick James Show is a classic, The Player Haters Ball...the list goes on and on. Keep it up Dave..

I'd list what's funny about Dave Chappele, but it would take too long. He's one of the brightest comics today. Like other comics of his race he does his take on racism, unlike them it's funny. Why? Because he's making fun of it, not bitching about it (a la Chris Rock now). Everyone knows racism sucks, but saying so isn't funny. By the way, someone hit Fozzy Ozporn (the guy who reviewed two before me) in the head with a brick. Is there any review you've read that's further off than his?

Man, Dave Chapelle is so damn funny. I saw him live once and it was 80 minutes of sraight laughter. Sure he covers typical topics, blacks vs. white and sex stuff, but puts a unique twist on everything. He is also the funniest guy that Howard Stern has on often.

i saw him on HBO and felt he was keeping a fair distance from the def jam cliche with a more understated style. i also like that he's not afraid to do different kinds of movies, from robin hood:men in tights and half-baked to light romantic comedy like you've got mail.

I've enjoyed Dave Chapelle for a long time, I really don't know what it is about him that makes me think so highly of him. He just recently picked up a job for Howard Stern as his joke writer, I really hope it works out for him.

I saw Dave Chapelle perform at a club in St. Louis once and thought he was pretty decent. He gets stuck in some of the Def Jam cliche topics -- super raunchy sex humor and then the "ever notice how stupid white people are?" shtick -- but most of his act was OK. Still, the best part of the night was when one of my drunk friends was nearly tossed out of the club for heckling an opening act (Hestaaaah).
