My thick Italian curly hair was falling out by the hand fulls. I was crying every morning. I STOPED using DEP (blue) and the hair Stopped falling out. I'm pissed.

Dep is still there. Wow. It is pretty good if you need it. It's very interesting the texture.

Dep is way too sticky to use regularly. It is hard to shampoo out of your hair. It really does not offer good styling control because of it's consistency. Think of Cameron Diaz in "There's Something About Mary"--you could recreate her do with this stuff. It's cheap stuff--you get what you pay for.

I bought the Yellow bottle of Dep Gel (hold #7) because it CLAIMS RIGHT ON THE BOTTLE "non-flaking" I was using LA Looks and knockoffs and tired of the flaking because my eyes would become irritated the next morning from the flakes. So I wanted to find a gel that wouldn't leave flakes. Since this one advertised it right on the bottle, I figured it had to be true, but it's NOT. This caused the same amount of flaking as LA Looks, although the flakes were finer. My black/brown hair looked like George Clooney from the hair gel flaking after I ran my hands over my head at the end of the day. (And no, I don't have dandruff). As far as hold, it works just as good as LA Looks cheap stuff. It's a little thicker and has a little bit of an annoying scent to it for the first hour. So now I'm back on the search for a gel that doesn't cause flaking.

I've always used the green gel (level 8) and loved it. Last year or so it's not on the shelves so I had to switch to the yellow dep gel ("styling gel" I think, level 7)it seems to flake. Never had that problem with the green. Did theformula change after the bottle changed shape? Sure hope not.

Dep is the best Gel in the world, not only does it hold great, it doesn't flake at all, holds all day with a nice wet shine to it. I would know I go through a bottle a week! I use Dep 7 I found it has the best hold. For the cost you can't go wrong!

This is one of the more effective ones, but the only problem is that by the end of the day it looks very dry. But the hold is great.

I noticed my teacher, John Curran, has a very firm hold on his flowing hair. He uses this gel and it holds the hair still, like a vice all day. It reflects the light in all its glory as he speaks.
