Great CD, got really much overplayed but the album is really nice, modern rock classic. Say what you say, but these guys are now stadion ROCK band, not punk, but still great stuff.

Many people have called Green Day "sell-outs" or "modern rock/punk posers", but I beg to differ those opinions. True in their early days of "Kerplunk!" and "Dookie" they had a punk sound and were full of angst and rebellion, but one can't stay young forever. The prior album to this was "Warning". That's a great album too, but this one (American Idiot) is the hallmark album of their careers. This album also shows the bands maturity and it shows they have a bit of a soft side. "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is about Billy Joe's fathers death and also references to 9/11. For a band to be taken seriously, they need to show some softness and emotion. After 5 years of this albums release, I still get a little emotional when I hear that song. The first single, however, is pretty straight forward. Why conform to the accepted American norm? Don't be American Idiots people! Yes, this is not the first rock opera ever released in the history of music, but it is most certainly one of the best eve... Read more

My hat goes off to Greenday for having the guts to write this gem of a concept album. I'll bet that the majority of the American public that bought this didn't even realize or care about the message and intricacy in the lyrics, concept and flow of this masterpiece of a punk album. For those of you that noticed, welcome to the suburban world of American Idiot, where the real idiots are the listeners that are parodied without their consent or even their knowledge. For those of you that got it, lets do something to change the dismal state of affairs of this great country. Talk about it and make others see that we need to pull together and make some changes before it's too late. Kudos again to Greenday!! All the accolades, sales and praise that they received is well-deserved. This will go down in music history as one of the greatest moments in punk/rock.

Like this album or not, there is no denying that "American Idiot" has gone on to be one of the defining albums of the decade much like the Clash's "London Calling" was to the 80s.

AI is an incredible album! I just can't get enough of it. It's deep, poignant, beautiful, powerful. It's so many things. They just really got it right, I don't know how else to say it. I purchased this as my third or forth copy of this album as I have either worn out accidentally scratched others. I couldn't imagine not having it in my collection at all times. If you haven't done so, skip past the singles and listen to the lesser known tracks. Follow along with the lyrics, this album tells the story of a generation.

Green Day sold out for a bunch of Middle School skateboarder wannabe punkers who will listen to any sort of crap if it gets enough publicity. Those who listen to this crap are American Idiots.

i like this album, now. at first, when i thought they were an english band it really pissed me off. but if they're just americans going on about stop the war, blah blah, that i can take. i love billie joe's voice. it's very sexy, and i love the sound of the album in particular.

i was only one year old when Dookie came out so i missed it when green day hit it big. the first song i ever heard them play was american idiot. i didnt think much of it ay first but i heard it again and this time it stuck. so i bought the album. the first time i listened i didnt get it cause their style was completely new to me but its now one of my favourite albums. i now own 39/smooth, kerplunk, dookie, insomniac, nimrod, warning, international superhits and shenanigans.(all green day albums) and american idiot is way different to the others. i think its just as good as dookie but in a different way. green day introduced me to rock and punk (2 things i never really had an interest in). i love green day and always will. ROCK ON GREEN DAY!!!!!!! P.S they are punk no matter what anyone says cause they lived the punk lifestyle and nothin can change that. you can take the boy out of punk but you cant take the punk out of the boy!

American idiot is, i agree the best album that they have bought out sinse nimrod. i still have to say that dookie is my best album! dont get me wrong, i still love the american idiot CD, and some of the songs on ther are mind blowing, especially Jesus of Serburbia and st.jimmy, and not to mention the phanomimal wake me up when september ends. but i am a fan of the older stuff, maybe some of you have not herd it yet, ther are like 10 albums, you shud listen to them, and hear punk at its finest! and yes, billie joe is the hottest thing 1walk this planet, but some of you need to realise that it ent guna hapen between you 2, he is married and has kids!but neways, green day rule!

Greenday is not rock. Their producers would sure like you to believe that this is rock, but it's not. Greenday is a sell out punk wanabe group of thirty-somethings all dressed in ridiculous clothes and ugly eyeliner. Yes, I like rock, but I like REAL rock, not this sell-out crap. Update: It's not that I really have a problem with their clothing, I just think it's a little much for thirty year olds. My main problem is that they claim to be punk. Well, to be punk, by definition, you don't sell out to major record labels, which is exactly what Greenday did. And really, it's not the sell out that bothers, it's the still wanting to be independent and punk afterwards.

Good but not great album. Hate to be stereotypical, but dookie is still the king. Terrific garage-chord sound. . .still a talented trio. (Don't have many more of those in rock)

It definitely rocks. I have a question though. The people that don't really like the songs, do they even like rock? Greenday is the definition of Great Rock! It doesn't get better than this. They rock so totally!

Ok, I have to disagree with the reviewer below. I have been listening to this band from the beginning (1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours...WAY before Dookie!!!). American Idiot is a really good album. This band has really grown up and it shows in this cd. LOVE Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy, Give Me Novacaine, Letterbomb....

Green Day's Best so far. They have two singles and a third that totally rocks!! both singles were at #1 on many countdowns, and the CD itself was #1 in the whole country. Plus, Green Day was, and still is, thinking about making a movie for this CD.

An absolutely fantastic album with very strong songs such as 'American Idiot' (obviously) 'Holiday', 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' and 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'I'm looking forward to seeing these guys perform in June. I get the feeling that they put on a very good show.

This is hands down the greatest album of the last decade. I was not impressed with their last few albums, but they completley redeemed themselves with this one. This is a REAL album instead of a bunch of random songs thrown together. This album has a great build to it including recurring characters and even a twist ending. I bought the album because I enjoyed the title track. I was pleased to learn that the title track was actually, by far, the weakest track on the entire album.

One of my favourite CD's at the moment! There is not one weak song in this gem of an album, and the 9 minute long Jesus of suburbia song is a masterpiece. The video of the titletrack is very interesting, too.

This CD is Great! Various types of songs, Example: Holiday and Give Me Novacaine are two totally different but great songs. I've had it for about one month and have memorized each song and love every single one. Highly recommened
