Personal opinion here: Dr. Dobson is a man with a good heart and who loves God, but who is being lured away from his ministry by trying to solve earthly problems by political means. If you are raising children, his is generally excellent advice. As for raising Christians, nope, he is raising Republicans. He is putting his faith way too low.

Praise GOD AND JESUS for Dr. James Dobson, along with Billy Graham, Greg Laurie, etc. This is a fallen world and I am grateful for their ongoing TRUTHS! Just waiting for the rapture...

Here we have the worst of the typical gay baiters.  They insist we have chosen our lives of persecution which would seem to make us tantamount to the Christian martyrs.  However, we, being an abomination unto the Lord, are to seek the forgiveness of a God of Mercy?  Why would God create abominations and then punish them for it.  We have been blamed for Aids, we were burned in the Middle Ages, eliminated in the Holocaust and we choose that life?  Give me a break.  Let Dobson tell me where Cain's wife came from with a rational explanation.  I used to be the most religious boy on the block until I met Leviticus and then my world began to crumble.  Now I espouse humanism and all those leaps of faith which some people make to explain the unexplainable are no longer part of me.  Christianity, with all its bragging about tolerance and compassion, has done more harm than good to mankind.  With its Inquisition and its Crusades, it tortured and killed thousands of innocent people.  Even today, G... Currently the most pernicious loon in America. Listen to his radio program about the Oscars - it is available on CD. He said he liked the movie "The Illusionist", but there was an unnecessay love scene that he had to fast forward to and he then said "apart from that, it [the movie] was clean". Meaning of course that the part he did not watch was somehow...."dirty". That tells us a lot about the good Doctor.

You'd be better off feeding your children lead-based paint chips than allowing this as$hole to electronically invade their brains. Religion is the equivalent of trepanation or maybe mercury fillings in your teeth, these things might have SEEMED like a good idea at one time but toxic is - as toxic does, just ask David Koresh's mother.

I think Dobson has done many good things through Focus. I think he probably believes that he is helping God's work by taking the stances that he does. But he's also smart enough at marketing to know what appeals to people. In this case the appeal is "anti" -  anti-this, anti-that. Let's complain about church-state separation. That riles people up. Sure enough, they send in their money to Focus. Let's complain about abortion. That'll fire Christians up. Sure enough, once again the money flows. Let's complain about the liberal media. That fires the Christians up also. Guess what? You guessed it. More money for Focus. It would be nice if he had some inspirational, uplifting message instead of the constant harangue against those who want to "do us in." But I guess that doesn't fill the bank as much as the constant negativity about "them" vs. "us."

He is not a half educated moron as are not a few television evangelists. He appears to hold legitimate degrees. He was a pediatric psychologist and he probably did a lot of good in that field. He is the power behind the throne in the Bush Administration, and he does have some valid criticisms of the mass media. I was going to attend one of his road shows, but then I go tied up at Murphy's Strip Bar and Armenian Grill and couldn't make it. Fred and I were discussing existential equivalents in relation to hysteria in legumes. I understand that some of the fundamentalists don't like him because he is too ecumenical.

This windbag uses his degree to spout hate, ignorance, and influence the political world. He's an unsophisticated jackass and I despise him. And his psychology? Way outdated (by decades), and roundly disputed by empirical research. He is not respected by other psychologists only because they actually READ the research.

Dr. Dobson is a very popular but a terribly doctrinally unsound spirtual leader who is trying to merge Catholicism with Biblical Christianity and thus helps confuse and deny the truth about salvation and many other issues that the reformers suffered and died for. To me soft spiritual leaders like Dr. Dobson who hide behind being a moral do gooder is the number one underlying reason Christianity is in the mess it is in the USA and the reason true Christianity has been choked out of the life of this nation . Dr. Dobson is an uncouth mixture of universalism , liberal theology , humanism and Bible ethics. I want nothing to do with anything that has to do with Dr.Dobson. Dobson is so unstable and full of the wisdom of this world he can't make up his mind if the world was created in 6 days or 6 eons not to mention all the other humanistic psychology he has tried to make equal with Bible revelation. I even heard one of his talks on the radio where he said that homosexuality was ... Read more

Dr Dobson is outstanding. I have listened to him for over 20 years. I wouldn't exactly call him a TV Evangelist. It's interesting that many times if you have the word Christian associated with a name, the individuals who do not believe there is a God will automatically discredit you.

Fraudian psychology disguised as Christianity? Throw in a little political propoganda and you have a real money maker here. Great salesmanship, bad theology.

I grew up Nazarene and went to one of the Nazarene Colleges in the Mid-West. I had to take art in the last of my second year in college. My professor was Dr. James Dobson, Sr. This was back in the early 1970's. He was the father of his well known son, James Dobson of Focus On The Family. Back then, the younger Dobson was not yet well known. Every time I went to class, I had the distinct impression that Dr. Dobson had an intense dislike for me. I had no idea why. I finally went to my academic advisor and asked to drop the course. He told me that Dr. Dobson had recently had a heart attack, and suggested since the course was nearly over, to just stick it out, and cut Professor Dobson some slack. So, I did. Oddly enough, after my talk with my advisor, Professor Dobson suddenly became interested in me, kindly, and friendly. I'm sure my advisor talked to him. You see, my mother, who was 57, was dying of cancer and would die that June. I rather got to liking Dr. Dobson as time went by. He was... Read more

A tireless champion of ignorance and bigotry. There is probably a picture of his smug, arrogant face in the dictionary next to hypocrite. Apparently he has not heard all ten commandments, especially the one regarding taking the Lord's name in vain. He violates it every time he opens his mouth. A more judgmental and mean-spirited so-called religious leader would be hard to find. Arrogant, duplicitous, powerhungry, hateful, advocates the interests of the most wealthy. That pretty much summarizes the teachings of Jesus... not really. He's a cancer on our country period

Dobson is a hate-filled Christ-killer. If Jesus came back today, Dobson would be out in front, ready to crucify him all over again for being a peace-loving "socialist liberal." Dobson's role in his FILTHY ROTTEN "Focus on the Family" organization is alternately as political lobbyist, preacher, psychologist....while at different times denying he's any of them, depending on the situation. Satan's warming a special place in hell for this RAT BASTARD.

James Dobson is one of the great pillars of conservative America. He has consistently, and successfully, defended traditional family values that are so often under attack by the atheistic and liberal Left. Judicial activism. Legalizing homosexual "marriage." The atrocity of abortion. These are just a few of the issues Dobson and his organization, Focus on the Family, fight against daily. I deeply respect his biblically-based convictions, his determination to not let our great country slide further from it's Judeo-Christian roots and values, and his perseverance to stand against the ruthless attacks from liberal groups across the nation on his character and ministry. May God bless him.

James Dobson is a raving lunatic of the worst kind. He has taken his position from which he dispensed very positive and helpful advice on how to raise children and abused it to push his extremist ideology. He is not above the use of character assassination or outright lies, and abuses an all-or-nothing approach to his pet topics, which is extremely detrimental to the prospect of actually doing anything about them. He has lined up his followers like mindless zombies who fall over every word he says, thus leading to uninformed debate in which they repeat his lies and distortions. I have grown more and more convinced that he is incredibly power-hungry, and will go to any means to get it. If he actually cared about protecting children from pornography or stopping abortion, he would logically approve of any legislation to achieve these ends, even if it is incomplete, as a simple first step. But by demanding that all abortions end, rather than achieving a compromise on partial-birth ... Read more

A dreary, humorless reincarnation of Matthew Hopkins/Cotton Mather. Where those tyrants were at least somewhat colorful, Dobson is a dry-as-dust, self-righteous pedant who talks far more about abortion and pornography and the federal judiciary than he does about Jesus (who?). He's ridiculous, but unlike Swaggart or Tilton, there's nothing entertaining or fun about listening to one of his radio broadcasts. Indeed, it's a sure-fire cure for insomnia. Along with Pat Robertson and others of that ilk, he's attempting to transform Christianity from a religion into a political party. Wasn't above exploiting the tragedy of what Ted Bundy did to 40-plus young women and children to benefit his crackpot campaign against the dangers of...(gasp!) stroke magazines. I'm not at all religious, but Dobson and his fellow dogmatists make me long for the days when the clergy were more concerned about living, breathing human beings than they were about some abstract concept of fetus. (By the way, give the C... Read more

One of the great Bible teacher who brings his experience on phychology. His program Focus on the Family is a great family program. Every time I have listen to him I have enjoyed. I enjoyed his bold reply to George Stephnopolis of ABC 7. Christianity needs such bold people who will not compromise the truth. http://jcsearch.com/blogs/vinisaac

At one point I had respect for him, but the gay issue is just so ridiculous. Unfortunatley his hands are tied, the Bible is quite clear and he has no choice but to go along with it or reject it all together and kiss his tidey career goodbye. Not gonna happen. Sorry kids, the bible is wrong on this one. You all realize, of course, that the earliest complete copy of the new testament that exists was hand written hundreds of years after the events occurred...it would NEVER stand up in court as a credible witness. Truth? nah. A helpful inspirative guide to be taken with a grain of salt? absolutely.

James Dobson is not a television evangelist, so I don't know why in the world he is on this list. But he is a Christian activist. He's an educator, author, and a professional counselor who specializes in marriage and family issues. He has a tremendous love for people, and knows how to be outspoken but in a gentle way. While I wouldn't say that I've agreed with every single word he says, I'd really like to be more like him.
