I’ve gone into First Citizens Bank on many occasions to purchase quarters. Due to its convenient location I’ve often thought of switching my account over from my current bank. After my experience today, I think I’ll stick with my current bank. I went in today to trade a twenty dollar bill for two rolls of quarters. This is not the kind of transaction that requires any kind of paperwork so there is no reason anyone should need to be an account holder to do so and why I assume it’s never been a problem until today. Two tellers were working, neither was busy and I was the only customer. When I made my request for quarters the teller helping me replied “sure” and went to get them from her drawer. She realized she didn’t have any and said she would need to go to the vault but first asked if the other teller had any. She said she had sold them all to her last customer and proceeded to ask me if I had an account. I said that I didn’t and she replied that they couldn’t help me. Really? I’d rat... Read more

Living in Raleigh, I've always respected First Citizens for their keeping their HQ here, their involvement in the community and solid, conservative reputation. They recently purchased a West coast bank that was in trouble, through the FDIC; a family member did business with this bank via a company loan and has since dealt with First Citizens Bank. It has given me unique insight to how they do business when their local reputation is not on the line. They effectively have lied to his company at every turn about the loan and how the FDIC are mandating that they handle it. The scenario is similar to one I found about Indymac on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssl5yb7FewA) - once you understand how companies and gov't are not looking after the consumer through this crisis, it gets your blood boiling. I give my business to companies who earn my trust and are honest when no one is looking. First Citizens has lost my trust and does not live up to their local squeaky clean reputation... Read more

If I could rank below 1 star I would. I could go on for hours, but this is the worst bank I have ever dealt with in my life. I have lost hundreds of dollars to overdraft fees due to thier error, or checks clearing days later than they should have - therefore I was "overdrafted" when I really wasnt, etc etc. I decided to change over to ING direct and I couldnt be more pleased. Unfortunately, I have to keep an account open to transfer checks INTO ING monthly, so thats the only reason my account is still active with FC. FC still continues to call and harrass me about agreeing to a line of credit, which would allow them to charge me $35 every time I go over my balance limit - a law that the federal government FINALLY put in place in August 2010 (that they couldnt without verbal or written approval from the customer). Its amazing what this bank will do to suck the money out of you. I had been a customer for TWELVE years and never once got a thankyou or appreciation for my loyalty. Better Bu... Read more

Despite the fact that I may have made an error with my bank account balance, them charging me $500.00 of late fees in 5 days is absolutely ridiculous. Where is the customer service? This bank is PLENTY large enough to eat the cost of those fees, as opposed to taking a weeks salary from my family. The clerks and tellers are very nice and try to be helpful but the branch manager and anyone above her seemed to not care enough to try and help out more. It is sad that in a small town, they don't care about their clients enough to make a bit more of an effort.

First Citizens DO NOT honor their online 5 day quareentee for check delivery. After 8 days their check still had not been received by water department and I had to pay a $60.00 disconnect fee. They stated it was past my "due date" for the bill. My due dates are none of their business, if they would have had the payment there within 5 days like they SAY they will, this would not have happened. They refuse to pay.

seems like the only thing first citizens is good at is hitting its customers with fees instead of providing a service. now that's lazy revenue generation.

fuck citizens. i am closing all my accounts today. the tellers, who are the lowest paid employees, are awesome. they all tried to help me with any problems with my account. and would tell me how i could save my money better. it is a problem with the customer service that has enraged me. i had a problem with my credit card. being a young student i do not have much money. even with previous statements and a RECIEPT THAT I PAID THE DAMN THING, they told me i had to take care of it. after some begging they called the credit company themselves. the person on the other line said i HAD paid the bill. WELL THEN WHY DO I HAVE A STATEMENT WITH TWO MONTHS BALANCE AND A LATE FEE? he hung up on the teller who was helping me. i had to wait twelve hours until the branch i made the payment to open. and i am so lucky i have off from work today to handle this mess. it is not just this. anytime i had a question no one was able to answer it. and im sick to my stomach the lack of proffessionalism amoung t... One of the few banks on the Eastern Seaboard that still give personal attention to even a savings account holder and are not just out to collect fees any way they can. Small-town touch and friendly tellers at the branches. Thanks!!
