I only recall Sbarro being remotely good, while I was in starvation mode. The pizza is a rip-off at over $3 a slice in some markets.

I don't want to impugn its "reputation" unfairly, but I always heard it had some kind of connection to the Gambino Mafia family in NY, at least in its beginning. There was one in Times Square years ago, and my friends and I would occasionally grab a slice or 2 to soak up some of the booze and/or other chemicals we were imbibing as we made our perambulations around the area. I don't remember that it made much of an impression one way or the other. We wanted food...fast...and it was there. Period. A year or so ago, I was driving with a friend up the NY Thruway, and we stopped at a rest stop...in Sloatsburg, if I remember right. We both grabbed a slice from the Sbarro there, and it was absolutely awful--- tasteless, doughy, and criminally expensive. My friend and I were righteously pissed off and vowed never to eat there again. And, we haven't. The old Umberto's on Mulberry St. was mob connected, and very expensive. It was also very good. Sbarro's should take a lesson.

Well beware if you ask for a pepperoni pizza in Columbia, MD. They'll tell you the cheese pizza sitting out will become pepperoni when they put the 'thawed out of the fridge' pepperoni on top of it. Service is rude, and well I never thought it was crazy to expect the toppings to be cooked with the pizza but apparently I am crazy for thinking so according to the sbarro associate.

Oh wow, I love the pizza here. But it can be really difficult to eat if you aren't a fan of eating pizza with a fork and knife.

Sbarro's is a good choice for a quick slice of pizza. My favorite is the stuffed meat pizza. Its a bit expensive for a single slice, but 2 of those will fill me up pretty nicely...and I'm a big eater. Not the greatest pizza in the world, but a good fast food option.

Decent pizza, but very, very overpriced. Yes, I am another NY native. I eat there if someone else suggests it, but I'd never suggest it myself, because I feel hosed every single time (I can drive 2 seconds to get much better pizza at a fraction of the cost), but as far as chains go, it's decent. Chains are never very good.

I didn't know they were still around. I guess I can still get an overpriced poor excuse for a slice of pizza

The pizza's ok,but nothing special. If it cost about 1/3 of what it does I'd eat there in a pinch.

It's not bad. Sure, I don't think I'll be going out of my way to go there, but when you're fooling around at the mall or in a hurry at the airport it's easy enough.

Oh come on people! Sbarro's pizza tastes VERY good as long as you get slices that are fresh and have not been sitting. And that's coming from a pizza conoisseur who can actually spell the word conoisseur! Here in the Midwest (Ohio), there aren't too many places that serve genuine 'NY style' pizza, so places like Sbarro's are a GODSEND for discriminating pizza palates like mine. I usually just get plain cheese slices, and they blow away ANY pizza delivery chain in taste. In fact, I often stop by the mall and pick up a whole pie as opposed to having crap like Papa John's or Domino's delivered to my door.

The only way you would go here is if you're really craving pizza and you're at the mall, because it's the only pizza place at the mall !!! No way would anyone go out of their way to actually go here.

For a place typically with a real mall kitchen, they put out the greasiest yet driest food I've seen. Still haven't figured out how they can do that.

They used to be in town but no more. The calzones were good but the pizza sucked, no great loss here.
