The Innova EVO was a European sports car manufactured for two months in 1991. It received poor reviews because it's aluminum foil body shredded at speeds above 45 mph, and it couldn't accommodate drivers who were taller than 5 foot 4.

I know a lot of people feed Evo with good results. And a look at the ingredients gives one the impression that there is plenty of things for my dog to like which is why I gave it an 'OK'. But unfortunatelly, my dog won't touch it.

Sorry to hear about all these people/pets having problems with this food; it is owned by Proctor & Gamble, and is too expensive for what it is; they are all about profit, not quality and safety for your pet. It has too much fat in it and the quality of ingredients are poor (their sources of ingredients are low quality). After many companies have changed ownership etc. (like this company as well as wellness, eagle pack etc.) and are now going for more profit and less quality, I tried many dog foods and find right now the Fromm (which I have actually used for many years) the very best, especially the surf;n turf; the dogs love it, the food is high quality, safe and the dogs have excellent digestion; this food is safe and won't cause you any problems. Also I highly recommend Petcurean "Now" and "Go" as well as "A great life" by doctor's finest. In addition to dry food I feed some cans but for the most part cook my dogs food with real high quality meet, vegetable, eggs and yogurt. I giv... Read more

I am currently going to open a case here in Illinois I am definitely going to show my attorney that I was right about this food. I came across this reviews today, but my Attorney wanted more prove and I am going to sue the company for vet bills and more etc. I feel for all of you, and I understand what you all are going through. I started buying this food three months ago had my dog on this food for three months. He never had any medical issues. He was about to start the show dog shows soon. Now he is tired weak and can't even go for walks for more that 10 minutes. I knew something was wrong immediately when I Noticed him grasping for breath drinking excessive water for about a month and a half now. I decided to take him to vet had the blood drawn mail it out to Hemopet, which indeed Doc Dodds is a great doctor. I spoke with her today she told me his result AST is 93 it should range between 15-66 which is high, and his ALT is 530 it should range between 12-118 extremely high. Every... Read more

For one thing Innova and EVO are 2 differnt foods made by the same company. I only feed my border collie Evo when we are doing a lot of frisbee workouts. It is a great food if you know what you are getting. I would not recomend this food for a dog that is not active due to the high protein 42% and 537 calories. When I am not working the dog he goes to California Natural Venison grain free for less protein 21% and 463 calories. If you do not have a dog that is working and active for most of the day then EVO is not a food that you should use. If you have a dog that is not to active or a couch potato then EVO is definatly not good for you. Bottom line EVo is one of the best foods still but with the amount of protein it is not for everyone.

My dog has horrible allergies to the generic brands (the chemicals they use make him itchy to the point of doing himself damage,) so to try countering this problem, I switched to a more natural, grain-free, and chemical-free brand on a recommendation, and as you've probably guessed by the fact I'm reviewing this, EVO Red Meat Formula was what was recommended. What a stupid, stupid move. My poor dog began tearing into himself even worse within a few days of starting this food. He was chewing his rump above his tail until it was raw and bloody, licking his paws until they, too, became raw and bloody, his ears were constantly inflamed, and his stool was runny and smelled disgusting (which is supposedly a sign that the dog had too much protein in what he ate and the smell is the undigested protein.) Scared out of my mind because of the damage he was doing himself, I took him to the vet (which is what I should have done in the first place,) and explained what had been happening. The vet... I tried Innova EVO for my Shiloh Shepherd a few months ago. She loved it. But for the next few days I started noticing blood in her urine. I was shocked! I went to the vet and they diagnosed her with a urinary tract infection. After a course of antibiotics she was back to her normal self. Not long after the course of medications was completed, she started to urinate blood again. Once again, back to the vet. This time a kidney infection was diagnosed! My vet finally asked what I was feeding. When I told him EVO, he gasped. He told me that EVO contains so much protein that it will hurt a dog's kidneys. If I didn't stop feeding it, my dog would end up in kidney failure and die. As soon as I stopped feeding EVO and went back to Purina Pro Plan, my girl no longer had problems. No more UTIs, no more kidney infections, and no more blood in urine!

I tried Innova EVO Red Meat (Small bites) for my Biewer. I immediately noticed problems. He was thirsty all the time and couldn't stop urinating. It was very scary. We went to the vet and I was told that he had kidney crystals. In fact, the vet said his levels were 8x higher than they should have been! Well, I wonder what has changed...Call this food all the wonderful things in the book, but it caused $900 worth of vet bills for me. Hell, my dog had crystals in his urine and kidneys! Your crazy if you feed this food to your dog! I'm never going to touch it again. It's not worth it. Not only did it cause all sorts of medical problems, it was terribly expensive to buy!

DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR DOG!!! I have a Coton de Tulear who I thought was allergic to grains. I tried EVO on the recommendation from a fellow dog lover. A week after starting this food, his mild itching and scratching turned into constant scratching that caused skin lesions and bleeding! It was absolutely horrible! When I switched back to his old food (Purina), the itching settled down. I finally took the vet's recommendation and started him on a medication for a genetic skin condition that food could not control. This food made my dog's skin 100x worse! Stay away!

Great dog food, if your dog likes to vomit! I have a Cane Corso that I wanted to feed raw, but I thought I would try this food out first. Many people said it was just like raw. Well...if this food is just like raw, I don't want to feed raw...EVER!!! Within 15 minutes of eating his EVO, my Cane Corso started vomiting and couldn't stop. He must have vomited 2 dozen times! It was a mess and the poor dog just couldn't stop! It happened three more times after eating this food. I finally threw it over the fence for the raccoons. Two days later...it was still there! I had to scoop it up and put it in the garbage can. What a waste of money!

After starting my Berger Picard on this food I noticed that he kept gaining weight. The weight just poured on! He went from 60 lbs to 80 lbs in one month! He was only eating 1 cup per day and getting a 1 or 2 mile walk/jog every single day. My vet told me that my dog was morbidly obese. He was! The vet told me to put him back on Science Diet. When I did, the weight just came off so easily! Unless you like fat dogs or have a severely underweight dog, I don't recommend this food.

The red meat large bites is the ONLY dry kibble my 3 yr English Setter will eat without his usual request for shredded cheese atop his dinner. Believe me, I've tried everything. My 2 Malinois, age 13 and 1, do very well on this. Their luscious coats are indicators of the superb nutrients in this food. However my younger dogs are occasionally gassy, sometimes with loose stools, so this is something one has to watch for (hence the 4 star rating). I am thus considering mixing EVO with high quality food containing grain. Yes, its pricey but this is for my pups! I don't mind eating mac and cheese for a week or so....

I was going to try this(used to be) magnificent food, I really was, but.... Procter and Gamble bought them.....and judging by what they did with Iams(Life's badder) and Eukanuba(Make a healthy dog die) formulas, I am expecting EVO won't stay good for long...... Too bad Procter and Gamble bought one of the best dog food companies, Natura. Tchh! Procter and Gamble just will buy anything they CAN buy to get more money! Plus, they test and kill most dogs then animal shelters in the U.S.A combined!

I was feeding my Pitbull on Avoderm for a few months and she just wasn't getting into peak condition even with adding Raw to the diet. I love EVO red meat formula I have seen a dramatic difference in activity and her stool is alot firmer. She is starting to put on muscle and really trim down. It is refreshing to see a food for a working dog on the market. Some may say it can be pricey but you get what you pay for. You don't buy a corvette and put cheap gas in it so why cheat your dogs of good health and quality of life. You have a customer for life keep up the good work and good ingredients.

I really liked Evo and so many dogs do great on it and there ingredient lists are pretty daen impressive... But, now that P & G owns this company I would expect to see it go down hill FAST. I would highly suggest finding a new food asap if your dogs eat EVO, specailly after the huge recall P&G just had! Not to mention the fast that they have completrely ruined every dog food they'v got a hold of.

innova evo is the best dog food ever. my 10 month old apbt used to have very loose stools on pretty much every food i use to put him on and his gas would clear any room out until i put him on evo, now his gas doesnt smell at all and he has nice firm stools. i had him on canidae salmon grain free dog food before and he just didnt seem to be gaining any weight he looked very skinny and unhealthy, now that i put him on the evo he has a gained a good amount of weight and looks and acts alot more healthy. Alot of people talk about the high protien and how its not good for puppies but from what i hear puppies need more protien than adults. The protien is just hard on a dogs liver in a high protien kibble because its dry or dehydrated protien unlike a raw diet which is also high protien but the meat is moist making it easier for the dogs liver to break down the protien so i just ad water to the food to put the moisture back in to the food and now he barely even drinks his water.

***EDIT EDIT EDIT*** Wednesday, May 5th, 2010, Procter and Gamble (Manufacturers of Iams and Eukanuba) announced that they have reached an agreement to purchase Natura Pet Products, manufacturer of Innova, EVO, California Natural, Karma, and Healthwise. Because P&G cares about profit and not about pet health, and because P&G has a proven track record of high marketing values of low quality foods, I can no longer give Natura brands, including Innova EVO, a good rating. Previous rating was five stars, and previous review remains below. ****** If you're looking for a grain-free, high protein, low carb dry dog food, Innova EVO is a fantastic choice. High calorie, but protein based calories... this means long-lasting satiation, and good, sustained energy. Fantastic especially for dogs involved in high-end activities and competition.

I have a mixed breed of lab and blue heeler. Buddy is overweight and is on a diet; however, now I find out that feeding EVO will put weight on him. I have another concern although I cannot substantiate this concern. Buddy is losing his strength in his back legs. He is 7 years old and was very active last summer (this is when We first introduced him to EVO) We have watched him lose strength and have had xrays, blood tests, etc., done to see if we can determine what is going on but, our Vet says he cannot find anything wrong. Vet says most likely his problem stems from him being OVER WEIGHT. I can maybe buy a little of that but it is strange that he was not in this condition until after we switched him to EVO. I am now removing him from this food to see if it will show an improvement. Once again....not blaming the food but questioning. Buddy also experiences very soft (sometimes very soft) stools, very dark and stinky.

I started feeding my very active jack russell/chihuahua mix EVO small bites over a year ago & he absolutely loves the taste! I didn't realize all the grain & fillers that were in his previous food, Iam's. He was always scratching! As soon as I switched is diet to grain free, the scratching stopped & his stools are much smaller & not as smelly. I rotate between the red meat, chicken, and turkey & lamb small bites. He loves them all! And I love that I'm keeping my little guy healthy & happy.

My 11 year old Aussie mix and 7 year old Aussie are doing very well on this food, much better than on grain containing food. We have had no GI problems. They don't drink more water. The older dog no longer has dandruff. Neither of them is super active. I feed very small amounts to maintain a good weight, about 1/2 cup each twice a day. Those others who are having GI upsets may be feeding too much.

Great food. I rotate this food with Wellness CORE. My 10 year old has been eating EVO food for a 1 1/2 years. A little goes a looooong way. He's 25 lbs and only requires 1/2 cup a day, and of course I supplement with plain yogurt, an egg(raw) a week and a RMB(pork ushually) once a week. If your serious about your pets health, cut down on the pedicures and eating out and buy your dog a bag.

Evo red meat has been great for my German Shepherd! I never thought that she would be do well on such a high protein diet. She has a sensitive stomach and has loose stool, gas, vomiting and grass eating if a food doesn't agree with her. I have tried her on the regular Innova line and she did not do well at all with it. Because she didn't handle Innova I didn't think she would do well on Evo, either. I was so wrong! Her digestion has been perfect on Evo! She has good energy, a shiny coat and clear eyes. She seems trimmer, not pudgy, but thick with muscles. I am only feeding between 2 1/2 and 3 cups a day to an 84 lb. dog. She would gladly eat more...she loves it! I have tried many, many different foods and some of them have been great! Some of them have been mediocre and some have been a disaster! Evo has been the BEST food I have ever tried for this particular dog!

I just switched my 5 month Siberian Husky from chicken soup for the puppys soul to EVO red meat small bites. He was experiencing horrible Diarrhea on the chicken soup. After switching him to the EVO his stool has hardened up. Its not rock hard still has a some what of a soft texture but that is totally fine. At least the poor guys not blowing water anymore. The vet told me it was fine to switch him to a adult dog food this early so there hips dont blow out. EVO's ingredients are top notch and is an excellent food for a high energy dog who needs that type of protein and fat. not putting chicken soup down just my dog didnt do well on it

    Thu Mar 04 2010

I began feeding my 10-month old Pug this food because I read that it was a top-notch food. My Pug immediately took to the food, however, over the course of 2-3 weeks, I noticed my dog began having more frequent bowel movements, which also appeared to be softer and looser. In addition, I noticed she became extremely "hyper" almost to the point of being Wild! She would make sounds that I have never heard come out of a Pug in my life! You would have thought there was a wolf in my house. I didn't know what to do, I just knew this behavior was not normal for her and it was frightening me. When the loose stools became really frequent and larger than normal, I decided to read up on EVO, and found that this food should never be given to Puppies of any breed. I'm glad I found this website and all of its reviews. I'm not saying the Food is bad, it clearly is not, but my dog can not tolerate this food at all. I'm switching her back to her Innova Puppy Food and Blue Buffalo Puppy food immediately!

This is a great food for big dogs and the ingredients + nutrition are perfect. My dogs (3 GSDs) did not like the taste of this food and I switched to Orijen, which they love. Also, the company that makes Orijen doesn't have any low-end offerings, unlike Innova, which makes me feel a bit better about the actual quality of the meat :) I should probably underline that you should NOT feed EVO (or Orijen) to any puppy, no matter the breed, nor to any small/medium breed dogs. It's just too much protein and fat for those breeds. But if you have a big and active dog (no mastiffs, for example), EVO is a great choice if your dog likes the taste. Don't forget that your dog will need a lot of water with this high-protein food and if you are switching from a lower grade food you MUST gradually introduce your dog to EVO. I mean it, don't come back here and rate it negativelly when your dog gets diarrhea!

I switched my dachshund to Evo Small Bites on the recommendation of his holistic vet. He loved it! Unfortunately over the next few days I noticed he was noticeably, excessively thirsty. Ge could not get enough water!! Everything seemed to moving through his system well, but I grew increasingly concerned. I called his vet and was told to bring in a urine sample. The vet called me later than evening with the results - an extremely high level of crystals in his urine, the highest she has ever seen. She said it could be a UTI, which could lead to an emergency stone removal, or caused by the new dog food. Rather than immediately putting my little dog on antibiotics, I opted to try homemade dog food (organic brn rice, ground beef and carrots) for a few days and see how he does. It worked! My dog is now back on his original dog food (Science Diet Natural) and doing great. Not only was this an unsettling experience, it was very costly with the vet bills for testing. No more EVO for us!!

Innova makes the best dog food on the market (IMO). I mix 2/3 EVO with 1/3 Innova standard (I use the red meat formual as I know chicken can sometimes cause yeast overgrowth in some dogs, which causes tear staining). I beleive in moderation in all things. Yes it still has a high protein content, but not as high as feeding straight EVO, also mixing with standard Innova adds a few grains, but keeps it very very limited as I believe this is a more natural diet for a dog. It has no corn, wheat or soy which all three are huge huge no no's for dogs. They eat less and have nice firm stools. If you currently feed your dog a low end dog food or one that has very low protein levels switching to this food WILL cause diearrhea. You can not switch to this food quickly. I would mix it about 2/3 old and 1/3 EVO mixture. feed this mixture for a week or more, however long it takes to know that your dog is not going to get diearrha, their stools may be a little looser at first and if so just k... I have been giving my Goldens Evo for about 1.5 months now. I had them on Nutra but found they were itchy and getting ht spots. I changed to Wellness Core and everything cleared up. ( ITS GRAIN FREE ). The cost was getting to be to much so I tried EVO. It was about 7 less a bag and still grain free. It had great reviews and I figured why now. With bag one my dogs were so gassy. In 5 years I have never had a gassy dog. It was horrible. I thought maybe they need to get used to it. We are on bag 2 and still GASSY. I also notice my one golden her ears are getting bad again and they are both very very itchy and its only getting worse. I will be going back to WELLNESS CORE soon. I think they just don't work well on the EVO food.

I think for dogs that get EXTREME exercise,- as in a lot more than just daily walks and doggie park, this food might be okay, but seemed too rich for my dogs. After the long transition to evo I noticed my 4 dogs were drinking A LOT of water (they normally get enough water in their food to thoroughly soak the kibble + chicken)- as in WAY more than they ever previously consumed and one of them also began biting his underside and stomach until he bled which he had never previously done (my dogs are flea and parasite free) which I suspect might have been due to a beef allergy (I switched them over to evo red meat because I wanted to avoid the chance of ethoxyquin, a harsh chemical used to preserve any fish not deemed for human consumption, being a part of their diet since fish is included in the chicken and turkey evo......their previous foods were always chicken-based but without fish that I didn't cook myself). Anyway, the beef allergy could happen with any food but the excessive water... Read more

Beware. Not all dogs can handle that much protein and fat. Add in a few high protein treats like dehydrated chicken breasts and you could be way overdoing it. Maybe it's worse with small dogs, but my toy poodle developed pancreatitis. The pancreas excretes enzymes that digest fats and proteins and this food is mega loaded with both. His pancreas went into meltdown and he nearly died. Maybe the food didn't cause the condition, but it certainly made things worse. I thought I was doing the best by my pet with this highly rated food but now I know better. My dog's stools were always greasy while on this food and I just thought it was from his anxiety as he is a bit of a stress case. Now he's on Holistic Blend Lamb and Rice which is lower in both fat and protein and so far so good. Moral of the story is do your research and use common sense for your own pet. With all the pure high protein products coming out that are eliminating grains altogether you may be getting too much of a good thing.

All the pet store people said this was the best stuff on the market. The ingredients would justify that statement. However, so far, my 11wk old lab mix doesn't seem to be taking too well to the food. His poop went from solid to chocolate syrup overnight. I have been giving him one pig ear per day and know that they are very rich, but I was doing that before I switched foods and had no problems before. Figure I will give the stuff one more week without pig ears in his diet and if I don't see an improvement this stuff is gone. Honestly think it is the food and not the ears.

My dog , a 2 year old husky/Shepherd/Malamute mix, was suffering from diarrhea for a long time, and the dog foods I tried didn't seem to help. I made the switch to Innova EVO Large Bites dog food & things have never been better. I think Innova makes a great dog food, and especially love the EVO! My dog needs the high levels of protein & fat, which this food is great for. He gets an upset stomach without enough protein & fat. He's also very picky about which foods he eats. He loves eating this food, which makes it much easier for me! Good ingredients and a healthy dog! My dog is young and energetic, so EVO works well. If your dog isn't as energetic as mine, you could still feed your dog EVO- but since it's so high in protein & fat, you don't need to feed your dog as much food per day as other dog food brands. I switched over to the adult dry Innova EVO dog food about 4 months ago for my two standard poodles. One is 8 months old and the other is 4-1/2 yrs. After 2 months on the new food regime, I noticed that when I brushed them out there would be almost no hair coming out in the slickers and brushes I used. No hair in the vacuum either. Poodles are not supposed to shed - but in my 20 years living with them and grooming them, I can attest to the fact that some hair does get shed - just not nearly as much as other dogs. Well, now I have to change my tune. The hair on their coats is much stronger and more wirey - the best part, it doesn't tangle as easily which means less work for me. It's been 4 months now on the new food and I've noticed something else. My puppy had the worst gook in her ears since I got her from the breeder. I'd be cleaning tootsie roll-colored glop from her ears every week and dusting with BFI powder (great stuff) which usually works wonders. Well, in this case it didn't ... Read more

Beware of this food (canned puppy Innova)- I know the ingredients are good, but I just got back from the emergency vet with my 12 week old puppy because I introduced this food to him with his kibble. It is VERY rich and while I may have given him a bit more than I should have, I didn't think it would cause the $400 vet bill and 2 hours of frantic worry that we just endured at the 24 hour emergency vet. I put about a soup spoon's worth in with my puppy's dinner with his regular dry food, and within about 30 minutes he was lethargic, shaky, clingy, and couldn't keep his eyes open as they drooped. He then proceeded to vomit everything that he had eaten the entire day, and then some. After vomiting 4 times, we took him in. I know that you are supposed to introduce food gradually, but he was recovering from a cold and I thought he deserved a little treat. The treat turned out to be x-rays, a peptid injection, and a doctor's note to feed him rice and ground turkey for about 2 weeks. ... Read more

I rescued a little dog about a yr and a half ago and started feeding her Science Diet as this was the food the shelter was providing. I decided to switch her over to Innova after I had her for a while and I can't believe the difference it's made in her overall appearance. Her coat has become so silky and shiny. I know that this is not my imagination because about 4 months ago my daughter adopted a smaller dog from the shelter. She is a mixed breed with a rather coarse coat. Since my daughter liked the way Fig's coat felt she put Gray on Innova too and over time her coat is just like Fig's. If the dogs look this good and have the energy and vitality that our little dogs have I would hightly recommend Innova. They especially love the small bites. People have actually commented on our dogs' appearance.

I have just started the slow switch over to EVO small bites, the turkey/chicken dry and venison canned. I have 3 dogs that will be eating this food, all have a normal activity levels, ages 5 to 1.5. Two of them are smaller breeds of dogs under 10 pounds. I have done countless of hours of research for the "it" food and my dogs have eaten so many different high qualilty brands of food and still have had issues so I have decided to go grain free and choose EVO, only to find out that even though a higher protein diet is the best you can give your dog IM worried that it may be too high in protein for my smaller dogs. They so far have had no problems at all with the switch and I plan on taking it slow and have them competely switched over in a month. However before the switch is competley made I need to know if this is the right food for them?? Everything that I have read about higher protein foods is that you should stay within the 35 to 40 percent range, this one is a little bit higher, b... Read more

My dog loved how it tasted and it sounded like a great concept. But within a wek she was in the emergency vet clinic with pancreatitis. I can't think of any other thing in her environment that cold have caused the illness and the timing is just too much of a coincidence.

The only food our husky pup (8 months) does well on. Tried everything under the sun, and he had terrible diarrhea for months... until I decided to go grain-free, even though high protein levels are sometimes not recommended for larger breed pups. His stools got better right away. Orijen gave him terrible gas, and he did OK Nature's Variety grain-free, but still gassy. Once I picked up a bag of Evo to try, we've never looked back: his coat, eyes, ears look great, he is just a blur of fur and energy (well, he is a 8 month old husky!) and his stools are finally good, w/o disgusting gas. I've read somewhere that more primitive breeds like huskies do best on high-fat high protein diet, and this seems to be true for our guy. Our other dog, however, doesn't tolerate this food too well. He does best on a lower protein grain-free food, and is doing great on Acana (same people as Orijen, but lower protein and MUCH cheaper!) All dogs are different, I guess, but thank goodness for EVO for our ... Read more

I rescued my pitbull last year knowing she had a very sensitive stomach. Long story short: EVO was the third dry-food that I tried with her, and it is by far the best. The low fiber is perfect for her sensitive digestive system; no more accidents in the house. With her extremely high energy level, the dense, high protein keeps her going. She is much leaner and has really packed on the muscle since switching her to EVO. It runs around $17 for a 6.6 lb. bag, but I know I'm getting the best quality ingredients that money can buy.

I previously wanted to put my Basset Hound puppy who is 6 months old on Blue Buffalo dog food. However, I was not able to find this dog food, so I went with what I believed to be the second best choice, Innova Evo's Red Meat Small Bites. This food is filled with Beef and Lamb Meal, Venison. I chose this dog food, along with the help from the staff at MetroPetmarket in Regina, Sk. I was told that a lot of owners choose to put their dogs on a dog food with chicken, and for variety, I should try my puppy on a red meat dog food. Well, since he has been on this food for a week and a half, the results are still not totally 100% as he is adjusting and getting used to this food. We mix this food with his old crappy food (Pedigree), and are slowly adding more of EVO and less of Pedigree. Alone, with a couple of kibbles in my hand, Watson gobbles up the food fast! He absolutely LOVES this food, but Watson is a Basset Hound afterall, and they do love food, so that may/may not be saying much... ... Read more
