I love this trade but the Spurs seem a little bit shaky this year and the trade hasn't paid off yet.

Oberto is steady and growing into the Pro Game transition, and Richard Jefferson is a solid veteran who knows how to score and can defend from the perimeter. Great addition to the transition with Manu and Tony. Definitely in the top ten acquisitions this year by a franchise.

Great decision by the Spurs! RJ can score, he can play awesome D, and has countless heart and desire, the thing they need to get another shot at the championship. Their main core, Duncan/Ginobli/Parker, are past their prime, Bowen was good at one point but he is on the verge of retiring and neither Thomas or Oberto were even that good. On Milwaukee's side of the deal, they are obviously still rebuilding, RJ is the superstar the needed, but I pretty sure the main reason they traded Richard Jefferson is to get rid of his salary, I doubt they'll keep any of the Spurs players for long, and they might want to get someone else. RJ obviously wasn't working well enough for them, and his high Salary was getting hard for them to handle. In conclusion, SA was smart to do this, but Milwaukee has a reason to get rid of RJ.

San Antonio knows what they are doing in terms of personnel. Bowen, Thomas, and Oberto are good players, but all expendable. Jefferson is still a great player in his prime, who can fill a big scoring role if Manu's legs continue to hinder him. When the Spurs have Duncan, Parker, Ginnobli, and Jefferson on the floor at one time, they will be extremely tough to matchup with. The other teams in the West had to hate that Milwaukee made this trade.

This is probably San Antonio's last shot at a championship with the Duncan-Parker-Ginobili core. Richard Jefferson will give them another scorer, and some much needed athleticism, and neither Bowen nor Thomas are the defensive stalwarts they once were, so losing them doesn't really hurt them much. I'd say this is the best trade we've seen so far this summer. It is early, so it probably won't stay that way.
