District 9

The above description isn't District 9. "In futuristic Paris, a policeman faces a gang hiding a weapon of mass destruction." Obviously that's "The Muppets Take Manhattan".

Original. Peter Jackson actually saw the directors "short" of District 9 and decided to finance the whole movie. I feel like this movie might have been a rip off of a foreign one, but I can't remember. http://www.abovegroundpools4less.com/

I just recently watched this, and I really enjoyed it. Sure there is a lot of blood, guts and whatnot but it was a very good movie. The only reason I didn't give it 5 was because I was left wondering if the Prawn had come back 3 years later to keep his promise. But all in all, it was a very good movie.

Good movie with lots of blood and sci fi gore. Aliens and action involved, and wow that guy swears a lot...

I must be in the minority but the characters in the movie are extremely annoying. It made me actually dislike humans. There is something wrong when the only character I empathize with is the one that is not real (the alien and his son). I get the parallels with aparthied and the social commentary on racism and segregation, which was something I actually liked. However, I couldn't figure out of the complete transformation of the man to alien was supposed to have a significant meaning or if they just left me hanging wondering if the alien was going to keep his promise and return after 3 years.

District 9 is set in Johannesburg, South Africa, not Paris. I think this brief description above is for another movie entirely, it sounds familiar. Twenty years ago a ship that was having trouble landed, hoping for help. The occupants weren't human, so of course when those in charge found they could be dominated, the 'Prawns' were put into refugee camps and treated like, well, it is South Africa and those in charge are mostly white, so there's that. Besides taking a cold hard look at what could possibly happen (dominate and exploit!), the special effects are jaw -dropping, great story, and I'm glad it received some nominations. I found it a much better movie than 'The Hurt Locker'.

This was one of the better sci-fi movies I have liked in a while! Amazing special effects and a decent story line! Poor "Christopher" he just wants to go back to his home planet with his kid. You can't help but root for this alien during the movie. He does eventually make it to the "mother ship" and after 20 yrs is finally able to take off, but not after forming a little relationship with an earthling whomb he promises to come back for. A very cool story and movie. I enjoyed this!

oh how wonderful----the movie just showed how wicked humans are......weird, i don't disagree, wonder why!......anyways back to the awesomeness of the movie.....first---the graphics were outstanding,,,in fact everything was outstanding...^^......well, the aliens are exception, since they have spooky features.....second- the way the movie was presented or so called the plot was amazing, the movie was like the real real life, not a movie that was simply made and showed great numbers of errors....this movie is an example of an almost perfected movie.....characters acting were great, no one had slipped, none had made mistakes even the "not so important characters" (well, it would be better if they are called the second to the primitive character since they were importance in the movie- without them the movie would just be a trash....third- characters' characteristics were compatible to the theme of the movie itself, balanced acting with balanced characters will result to an awesome and magn... Here it is. District 9. After every single action movie called the 'BEST MOVIE EVAR!' by some slobbery prepubescent fanboy circle. After the alright Dark Knight and above average Iron Man. After the well-crafted but hysterical "look at this explosion! look at this shiny object!" Star Trek. After the conceptually fantastic but overposed and over-Americanized Watchmen, et cetera, ad nauseum. Then, very rarely, there is a defining movie, one made right from the dirtpit of selling out---District 9, a creative alternate history where aliens land onto Earth in 1982 with all sorts of difficulties, conflicts, rages and an eventual mini-apocalypse, fits in here. It's a complex, knowing work; the first noticeable thing District 9 does (apart from blending faux-documentary footage with fiction) is avoiding the cliche obsession with an exotic sense of geography and landmarks in many other alien movies--this one starts itself off in a poor, poverty-stricken Africa, and the movie effortlessly spend... I think District 9 is all about expectations. I went in with tremendously high ones, and walked out a little disappointed. If I had seen it without expectations, I probably would have given it four stars. First the good: this is probably the most creative alien movie storyline that I've seen. It's not just clash of the cultures - District 9 begins almost as a movie about immigration. A host country's conflicting desires to show compassion and do the right thing conflicts with the reality that it understands almost nothing about its new residents. What was meant to be a temporary aid camp becomes a permanent ghetto. Aid interests and military / national security interests clash in how to manage the new settlement. Opportunistic Nigerian "entrepreneurs" move in to try and squeeze the last bit of value out of the new arrivals.This is the most interesting part of the movie. This film had really caught my attention when I first saw the trailer. It seems to have captured others attention also. It is unusual and at the same time it is a bit like other science fiction. The aliens are being kept on Earth in a camp in South Africa. They are not being treated that well, but they have been trouble. They are treated like garbage. Then it turns out they are going to be evicted and moved. The aliens don't seem to be very bright at first. I at first thought it was kind of silly. Later I was drawn into it and the characters and it was very intense. Then you see the aliens and a translation is there that shows them talking and planning to escape the Earth. They become more real. For some reason they are not supposed to leave. A guy from Earth of course gets involved. It does have something to say.
