I learned how not to be afraid of life on Wilson avenue on many hot summer nights. Of course back then that street was known as hillbilly heaven. Where did they all go? Back to Kentucky or Tennessee or on to the many suburbs of Chicagoland. Replaced by who else? The modern urban yuppie. In spite of the danger it was a great place and a great time to be a kid. Now it has definitely lost its cutting edge, but it is preferable to its north side neighbors Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park.

It is an area that continues to appreciate. As a dog owner, I love it particularly for the access to the lakefront, Puptown dog park and Montrose dog beach. There are many fine restaurants and you won't find a better jazz club than the Green Mill.
