 | GenghisTheHun (168) 07/21/2006 | Martha planted a batch of garlic and we have had very few vampire problems here in Hunland.
I can also vouch for the fact that dingoes are not too fond of it either!

 | VirileVagabond (32) 07/20/2006 | A root crop native to Central Asia, garlic is a very distinctive, pungent spice seemingly favored by the Italians (but not by vampires). Moreover, with over 300 kinds of garlic from which to choose, there is something for everyone. Many of the health benefits are disputed (presumably some noted in prior reviews), but who cares; garlic isn't dangerous, yet it's still yummy when used in moderation. One probably loves it or hates it, but there are no real substitutes for garlic, especially with tomato and cream based foods.

 | LastMessenger3 (40) 06/25/2006 | Garlick is the greatest spice/herb ever. I personally bless the person who accidently found it millenia ago. I put garlick everywhere it applies. I eat garlick more than anyone I know. I don't care that it wricks. I don't care that it comes out through your pores. I don't care that it lingers with you for days. The bottom line is - it's good for you and it's delicious. the end!

 | LadyJesusFan777 (33) 06/15/2006 | Garlic toast is delicious; garlic is also delicious in mashed potatoes. Although I love gravy, I think garlic would be a better alternative.
Anyone have a breath mint?

 | X Factor Z (13) 04/19/2006 | Maybe the best all purpose flavoring that Emeril loves, and is easy to grow as well.

 | computergal (1) 07/23/2005 | This spice is the bomb!!! I use it on everything except sweets. It goes so well with everything. The main thing about garlic is if you are sauteeing it by itself over the heat do it fast over medium low heat and remove once you smell its unmistakable scent. Use it right away or else it produces a toxin by the name of botulism- the same stuff that botox is made from. Other than that, use your garlic often and don't worry about your breath. Just have plenty of mouthwash, minty toothpaste and floss around.
I think garlic was one of God's gifts to us. It's cheaper than gold but more valuable. Could you imagine life without marinara sauce, garlic bread or soup??? Oh no! (cry!)

 | Djahuti (54) 05/27/2005 | Gotta admit I'm a Garlic Freak.I love it in sauces, stews, stir fried with veggies, grated raw on a salad and a million other ways including baked and spread on nice crusty italian bread....And you thought I was a vampire! (Garlic also has antibiotic properties and can really help a cold or virus if you can eat it raw.)

 | Graymalkin (51) 05/17/2005 | Aristophanes believed that if a soldier consumed garlic before entering into battle he would become more fearless. I am not sure what the effects of strengthening my backbone are, but I know that my mouth waters from the aroma of garlic sauteing in butter. Roasting it brings out its natural sweetness and takes the bite off. I like it mashed into potatoes, or mixed with a bit of sour cream, horseradish and mayonnaise and served with roast beef, or just spread over a slice of crusty french bread. I also use the roasted garlic that I steep in olive oil to flavor it.

 | Da Minx (1) 10/04/2004 | Not overally keen. But a minimal amount can completely change the taste of a dish for the better. However garlic bread - whole different ball game!

 | MissPackRat4Jesus (38) 09/11/2004 | A great accent to spaghetti, pizza, chicken and all that good stuff. However, it's not very complimentary to one's breath after eating it.

 | Enkidu (37) 02/22/2004 | One of the most useful flavors, but just a little overrated. If garlic is the predominant flavor you can be sure the dish is a popular one, but I will be bored quickly.

 | kolby1973 (32) 11/15/2003 | This is by far my favorite spice to cook, bake, and make just about any type of food with. I love my garlic....no kitchen is the same without it. :)

 | dovekiller (1) 09/15/2003 | Just want to say that I am glad that allspice was not on the list. Would have hosed that stuff w/o mercy. Was surprised to see a cooking show out of Australia: the chef could not tolerate garlic! What kind of chef is that?

 | earthspirit (0) 07/05/2003 | Ok as a spice, but has to be used only in certain food. It completely overpowers anything its added to, so Italian food is the only thing I ever put it in.

 | AryanDan (2) 08/31/2002 | Garlic is a great herb and spice, not to forget a fantastic medicine. Soon the world will come to realize that garlic can replace many harmful expensive drugs currently on the market. For example, garlic can lower cholesterol and blood pressure safely and naturally without all the negative side effects common to most prescription drugs. Garlic also cleans and thins the blood. Garlic is known to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease as well. Another great aspect of garlic's effectiveness is its cold preventing and fighting ability. The best way to take garlic is raw. Chopping it up and adding it raw to any favorite food is an excellent way to obtain all the goodness of garlic. A note of caution: garlic is so potent and effective that it can interfere with the pharmaceutical drugs a person may already be taking. Also, if a person has high cholesterol and starts taking too much garlic, cholesterol could break loose and cause a blockage. However, overall, garlic is extremely safe and effective. Garlic should be used as a medicine first before resorting to dangerous drugs. Start with one raw clove per day and enjoy the benefits...

 | Shroomwoman (12) 03/06/2002 | I think I'm addicted to garlic. I love it in most foods, from traditionally garlicky ones, like spaghetti and stir-fries, to things like popcorn and salad dressings. Garlic adds a depth and warmth to food that is impossible to achieve with anything else (although onions come close in some respects). Some people insist on using fresh garlic only, but I think garlic powder performs better in some dishes (guacamole is one example). If had to choose one spice to use beyond salt and pepper, it would definitely be garlic.
