Ok, here's how I implemented the Subway "diet"... It's not like you eat 3 Subway meals a day! I wanted to lose about 10 pounds and so I cut back a bit. I started eating a breakfast bar (like Nutri-Grain, 140 calories or Kudos bar, 90 calories I think) and 8-12 oz. milk for breakfast. The 1st few days yes I still felt a little hungry but I had been used to eating so much more I needed to cut back. Midmorning I'd have some fruit if I wanted a snack, like Dole Tropical mixed fruit. For lunch, I'd go to Subway and pick one of the low-fat/lower calorie sandwiches like roasted chicken breast & put Southwest sauce on it for kick, and have a diet soda. If I didn't want a sandwich I'd have a salad with meat on it. I always felt stuffed after lunch like I had a good meal so I didn't feel like snacking usually. If I wanted something sweet a little later I might suck on 3 or 4 Hershey's Kisses, about 100 calories. (Don't sit there beside the open bag - put it far away out of reach!) Then for suppe... YA... the subway diet~ lets eat subs three times a day every day! What a diet... the same old thing every day. Yes it is healthy, but so is Chicken Pot Pie. People think by just eating subs everyday they will lose weight, but wrong you have to do something that Americans have lost the meaning of *Excersise*! Maybe americans should think about joging down the road, insted of driving their SUVS to subway. Tyler MD

Some people are missing the point of the Subway diet, Jared ate Subway everyday with excercise and he lost his weight. I doubt if Jared eats Subway every day for every meal to this day, he got used to eating healthy and now changed his eating habits. The point is more Subway less quarter pounders= better for you.

not bad if you don't mind eating the same type of food. I find that alternating diet plans works well and prevents boredom and failure.

you know what its a hell of a lot better than the stuff that people are served at other fast food joints. I know for a fact ( i spent many months in a popular fast food drive thru) that if people didn't eat so much greasy food they wouldn't be so damned fat. the 50% off of the food didnt stop me from frequently opting for the healthier sub way accross the street. No, Subway is not the answer to fighting obesity, but it's a start.

The subway diet may have been an original and successful idea to a single person or even a few, but recently it has been used as a means of marketing rather than helping the society. Watching the subway commercials are like watching a car ad. It can do this and that and this too...but is it gonna last? Forget the diet and enjoy the food. if i wanted alow fat sub, i would eat a bun. pack on the toppings and let the fat people buy some friggin' pills like everyone else.

Unreasonable! I mean, hooray for Jared that he did that, but how reasonable is it for most people? Take my life, for example: I am married & have one child. I recently quit my career to be a stay at home mom, which means a reduction to ONE income. We plan our budget very carefully, which involves planning two week menus that we stick to religiously. So the point is, it's not affordable for most people. Then, the other factor is that my son & husband both have great metabolisms, & my husband is quite buff from his line of work (unground drilling/construction). So, it's not like they would want to participate with me (even if I did want to do it). So, let's say I decided to give it a whirl. I'd have to cook dinner for my family, leave it warming in the oven, run to the local Subway to grab a sandwhich, & sit eating my sandwhich (day after day) while my family ate ribs, casseroles, & lasagne. No thanks! It just isn't reasonable for the "average" American. ***I'm not disputing that it migh... Read more

Has anyone every noticed that Gerod (or whatever his name is) is as soft as hell? Diets usually have short lived results. Without lifestyle change weightloss will always only be temporary. I wonder how those Subway diet guys smell?

I could not imagine eating 'Subway' every single day. Sometimes it is good, but it is not good enough to make a diet of it. No thanks....

Diets need nutritional VARIETY. Daily sub sandwich-eating can mean missing some variation of nutrients. Second caveat: you can still gain weight on a diet that is light on fat, since the main focus should be on total caloric intake, not total fat grams. Still, Subway is better for dieters than other restaurants which tend to overfeed customers with supersized portions. Thirdly, the best diets encourage adding dietary fiber, reducing sweets, and drinking enough water --which can prevent snacking urges two hours later. The Subway Diet's advice is too simple by those measures. Finally, Subway succeeds in mentioning active exercise as part of the plan (Jared's long walks to the restaurant) which is as important as sensible meal portions for weight control and overall health.

While this diet may be great for very busy people with very disposable incomes, I could not envision eating the same fast food subs at a questionable price. Nice for an occasional meal, but I've got better things to spend my money on than wasting $5-7 a day on subs. With a little math you will see that that adds up to $150 to $217 a month on subs alone. Great for Subway, but you can get the same results by making low fat foods like lentil soups or lean meat subs at home. Still, it's nice to have Subway around, especially when travelling. After sitting in a car for five hours, the last thing I want is a heavy, greasy burger. As a fast food place, excellent. As a diet, no. I'd rather use some common sense and make my own low-fat meals.

Subway does deserve it's praise because many people have lost ALOT of weight. They should market this plan, it's helped alot of people. If you owned a business you would surely market something of this nature as well. It's good and smart business. Of course, it's not just because there is magic in Subway sandwich's but Subway does provide healthy ingredients, convenience and potion control. As for people saying how expensive it is, how is $5 to $7 a day for food expensive. Plus with their promotions it is even cheaper. I say hurray for Subway and hopefully other fast food chains will follow their steps.

From what I understand, the "Subway diet" involves much more than just eating subs. First, one must have the dedication and strength to NOT add on the extra cheese and other fattening condiments. Second, the "diet" also invovles WALKING to and from the location. . . i.e. EXERCISE. Five bucks a day for lunch does get costly, but many people spend that much anyway on fast food, so why not just switch over? This kind of health plan involves a LOT of willpower, to do all that, and I sincerely applaud anyone who's suceeded with this plan. I hope I never need to go on a diet, but if I had to start watching my weight, this is something I'd consider a few times a week.

The subway diet is great!!! I've lost 100 pounds on it and think it's the easiest diet out there, although...it can put a dent in the wallet every month. I've heard that subway recommends that you shouldn't eat breakfast..don't know if that's true..but I always have a good healthy breakfast before my subway lunch and lost an average of 20 pounds a month eating at subway 5 days a week only!!!

For a fast food chain, they make great sub sandwhiches. Not to mention it's healthier and taste better than the burger joints

I agree that Jared could not have lost all that weight by just eating at Subway. BUT I do believe that he did lose it by eating Subway AND exercising. Did anybody see that Tae-bo instructor, Billy Blanks, commercial? It was kind of corny, he was instructing some people while they were eating subway. Chew, chew, chew...um yeah. Besides the fact that Subway is gaining more credit on weight loss than they should, I rate the diet three stars because Subway is healthier and does help people who are losing weight. But, as Ashley said, exercise is also needed to succeed. Sorry if I rambled a bit - thinking of a sub so close to breakfast time threw my focus off. ;)

Subs are much better for you than other fast food. I am so glad that there is someplace that folks can go to get a healthy bite to eat. unfortunatly, there are more joints like burger king around so.... the obesity epidemic continues to proveil.

While the sandwiches are pretty good and are healthier than typical fast food, I still feel this is just an advertising gimmick. I seriously doubt that Jared really lost all that weight just from eating at Subway. Why should you have to spend money at Subway in the first place when you can probably get the same effect just by making your own healthy sandwiches at home?

Sure the diet can work if a person is willing to stick with it. But then different things work for different people. The propaganda in the whole Subway thing is more about selling the sandwhiches than anything. I've worked at Subway and very few people came in looking for diet advice; most just wanted a sub just for the sake of having a sub. I guess subs are alot better than any fast food resuraunt but if people want to diet, they'll diet regardless of subway's advertisements.

Perhaps I'm rather biased because I've spent many many hours behind the counters of Subway, but this diet plan seems pretty decent to me. As Jaws pointed out: Normal food is involved. If the correct fillers are chosen, one can get a nice balance of carbs, proteins, and nutrients. It's not like the other whacko "miracle" diets that urge you to eat strange foods, omit food groups, and consume odd portions. The only drawback is that my wallet would die of starvation on this plan. Of course it's a marketing ploy for Subway, but NOT a SCAM. I've got to complain though that this one rotund man visits my store every time I work, and I can tell he's on the diet. All he gets on his sub is lettuce, and I want to tell him he needs more vegetables to practice healthy eating. (It just bothers me, and I finally found a place to vent.) No cheese, mayo, or oil and you're good, as long as you don't get some not-lean meat sub. That's all. This seems like a good place to add this comment whil... Read more

Yes, you can get some good low cal sandwiches at Subway but, as Jaws already pointed out, you have to watch what you put on them because that part is up to you (hold the mayo and no extra cheese). I don't see this so much as a diet plan as I do a promotional effort by Subway. These are, after all, just sandwiches - not full-fledged diet plans. Something good to keep in mind if you're watching your caloric intake while on the road - but not really something I would think you would want to do long term to lose weight.

I guess this is good because it actually involves real food. But this can work against you depending on what you put on your sandwich and how much.
