A lot of tedious and boring work. Not exactly the Rockford Files. Much work now in the background check business, as well as both sides of personal injury work. Glamour it ain't.

Now this I would like, despite the fact that I've spent half my life being clueless.

the reality about most detective work is waiting in a car outside some suburban semi while some errant middle-aged husband is poking some bit of fluff half his age. it's the 99-1 rule - boredom vs terror. after reading a story in local paper a few years ago when a private tec was found in his car with an axe in his skull, i decided 'tec work's not for me

I'm sure this can be a great field to get into depending on what type of investigation you do.

I realize that the Hollywood version of the private detective is romanticized, but this occupation must still be rather interesting. I'm sure that the average case is merely searching records and dull afternoons watching a closed door, but the adrenaline must still flow on occasion.

I'm sure there's a lot of waiting around, close calls, near misses but I'm sure in the end, it pays off.

It's exciting at first, but quickly looses it's glamour. You get stuck sitting in a car waiting for hours on end- boring. It's also not as easy as it seems. You do get to play with cool gadgets- tiny cameras and stuff.

This is certainly an exciting career, although it's probably not as cool as what it appears to be in the movies though...
