I am very unhappy with Harry and David at this time. This was my first time ordering from this company, and I was very excited to place this order. I placed this order at the end of January for a mid February deliver, and found out 2 days before the delivery date (by my own inquiry) that the pears were not available. The customer service person was not able to supply me with an alternate that fit my needs. As a first and last time customer, I would like to pass my feelings along, so that in the future others do not have their Valentines day ruined by bad customer service.

No company is perfect. Mistakes may be made, but this company is top notch. I received a beautiful gift basket of pears for the holidays. Unfortunately, there was no card attached but we figured out it was sent from my sister. A few days later, we received a well-written apology letter stating that the company had erroneously sent the package without the card. And they included a HUGE box of truffles for the mistake! Not only that, the company sent a similar apology letter to the sender with a HUGE tower of snacks, cookies and candies. I couldn't imagine the cost. Mind you, we had never complained to the company- they took the initiative to reach out to both parties when they realized the mistake. Unbelievable customer service, and superior service after the sale. Everything was delicious, and now we tell everyone about Harry and David!

Best pears I have eaten in my entire life . . . . I'm so glad I just received this gift and had the experience of tasting these pears. I don't think I can go back to pears from the supermarket.

I sent Christmas dessert to our family in Los Angeles - I ordered 6 items from Harry and David bakery. 4 of them never arrived and I looked like an idiot. I had to go out on Christmas evening and find a restaurant open so I could buy some dessert. It was awful. I am not usually a person to write a negative review, but just wanted to warn others... do not depend on this company when your reputation is on the line.

SO BAD. I ordered a large basket for Christmas for a client of mine. There were so many issues! First they wouldn't take the 25% off coupon I had. Then they wanted to charge me shipping on "free shipping Friday". Then the price offered online was incorrect and alomost $50 more than advertised. They offered to reduce the cost to the originally offered price after I asked to cancel the order. Then when it arrived, it was the wrong item completely. Not even close in price range. I have no idea what they are thinking. FAIL!

We discovered over and over (too late) that items we had shipped from Harry and David either never arrived, arrived late or were rotting and substandard. Finally we convinced that one Harry and David holdout at our company (the p.r. director) to stop ordering items and losing our business by sending her a fruit basket from Harry and David... ;-) She was mortified by what she received and insisted on sending our clients addtional gifts. Harry and David has survived by nothing more than the politeness of people that are not willing to complain about the gifts they receive from this scam company. Save yourself and loved ones some trauma and money by not sending the Harry and David insult this year!!

Against my better judgment I order from Harry & David for holiday gifts this year. Just as they did in the past they sent the order late through Federal Express who in turn gave my order to the post office for delivery. Now I'm being told to ad 2 or 3 days to the expected delivery date. The person I sent the gift to won't be there at that point so it's worthless. I'll never use them again.

0 STAR RATING No shipment confirmation and it has been a week since I ordered. This is a Christmas present and it looks like I will be lucky if it gets there by next year. Waited 45 minutes on the phone for customer service. Finally got an operator who told me nothing. She could not tell when it would ship. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SHOP SOME WHERE ELSE BECAUSE THIS OUTFIT IS THE PITS!!!!! .

I got the catalogue late I called but the item I wanted was out of stock so I settled for the next best thing . The sales women assured me they had the item. Two days later I got a call from Nella of Harry and David asking me to call her there was something wrong with my order. I called was on hold over 10 minutes waiting to clear up the order. I also recieved an email from Nella telling me the item was out of stock and she asked me if I wanted a credit refund or place another order. First they shouldn't charge my credit card if they don't have the item. I recieved a auto email telling me someone would get back to me in 24 hours . Still no email from them. I called another company and ordered a $190 basket . This morning I called Harry and David after I found the charge for $159 on my credit card. The guy was nice a but told me the basket was on its way to be delivered . I told him I was told they were out of stock . He said no we have them .He also told me they were delivering 4... Read more

I ordered a fruit basket for my boss. In an attempt to save time, we ordered online but the coupon would not go through and we were advised to call to place the order. I was on hold for approximately 10 minutes just to place the order. Once the order was placed, I was assured that the initial online order would not be placed. As soon as I returned to my computer, I received two confirmation emails, both for the same exact order! I immediately called again, was on hold for customer service for 10 min. I called back and chose option 1 to place an order and said I needed to cancel. The inept customer service rep, whom I could barely understand, transferred me to customer service. I was on hold for over 30 minutes! During this time, I made 3 calls to Harry & David on my cell phone. After choosing option 1 a third time, I demanded to speak with a customer service manager. I was finally transferred to someone who said she was a supervisor. I told her that I had been on hold f... Read more

I ordered a deluxe sympathy basket for overnight delivery - they promised it would get there the next day. When I checked my computer later that day - I never received a confirmation, so I phoned back. I stressed to them that I would order something else locally to where it was going to be shipped if they could not deliver it and again they assured me it was going out, but the computer did not send me a confirmation. Well the next day (when it was to be delivered) I got a confirmation of shipping, but could not confirm when it would be delivered. They said they would phone the the family and tell them it was coming late - I was furious and said are you crazy - DO NOT call them as it is a funeral. Then I got a confirmation that it was going to be delivered 3 days later - I again phoned and said to cancel the order. I wrote a review on Harry and Davids website just like this but they would not post it. I received an email about a week later with an apology and a coupon for 20% off my... Read more

Wish I had seen this first. Ordered a $100 sympathy basket to arrive (paid extra) on 12/11/2010 and it's still not here on 12/13/2010 6:30pm. I just got off the phone (was on hold 18 minutes) with the company and all they are doing is refunding the shipping charge. Which essentially means they are doing NOTHING because for normal delivery shipping is free anyway on an order in this price range, . They don't ever care. I told them I was writing this review and all they said was OK. Never ever again! Rating one star because I have to.

I ordered a bereavement gift basket on 10/10/2010 that was supposed to arrive on 10/18/2010. They called 2 days before the expected arrival date saying they didn't have enough inventory to make the order. I'd have expected a call like that A LOT sooner than Saturday when the order was supposed to arrive on Monday. Since the order was coming from Oregon, there was no way it would make it on time. They said it would be there on 10/25/2010, 15 days from when I ordered it. They offered me %20 off my next order for my inconvenience. That was insulting. This company has gotten too big to care about individual customers. There are plenty of local companys that make great gift baskets. Use one of them instead of hoping you're order is going to make it to Pennsylvania from Oregon on time.

I ordered Harry & David's Chicken pies made famous and advertised by The Oprah Show. I ordered the pies about 7 days days prior to the date I needed them for my daughters Birthday dinner. When the date the pies were to be delivered came, no pies, no dinner just disappointment. If you order from this company don't make plans for presents of any kind. My pies were due to be delivered by October 13th 2010 today is October 14th and the pies, according to the company's records still have not been shipped. This was my first order, so they took shipping charges of $20.00 off my credit card. I think they owe my daughter an apology.

Harry & David is a horrible company period. They are now treating their employees like slaves since they have laid off probably 50% of their corporate staff to show a profit to share holders. They are an eveil corporation, and I will never support them and will advise friends and family to do the same. Shame on these New York Wallstreet investment firms who do not care at all for the well-being of their employees but just for the bottom line and proits they take home. Stand up for the working folks (hourly and salary)..... They are all being abused!!!

Never, never, never again!!! I Ordered on-line for my mother-in-laws birthday. When nothing came I called. (It was for my mother-in-law - did I say that?!) I was told the order had been canceled because they didn't have the credit card info (It was an on-line order which can not be processed unless the card info is there) They had our phone number but no one tried to call. They said they tried to e-mail but I had no e-mail. What was worse was the customer service agent who said she was a manager. If that is the type of people they put into management it is no surprise that they are a terrible company! I finally hung up, called back and talked to someone else who was a credit to the company. But, I will never order from them again and do not recommend them. (Did I mention it was for my mother-in-law who now thinks I didn't send her anything).

I wanted to give my Mom a Valentine's day basket sent to her school since she had recently lost her husband and all of the other teachers get gifts sent there. I purchased really expensive expedited shipping to guarantee that it would get there, and guess what...it didn't and I had to hear about how sad she was all day. Her school is closed next week so customer service said it won't even be sent back to them. They were sold out of the basket, so it was replaced with pears that will arrive a week and half later. The customer service was rude, they didn't refund any shipping, nor was the replacement given expedited shipping. My Mom suggested I use Wine Country Gift Baskets instead, and I will.

Back in the 70s,one of my Uncles was well off & used to send us Harry & David fruits and they were delicious.By the late 80s/early 90s,the prices were sky high & the quality dropped like a lead balloon.I had a lady friend who used them recently and she was furious with them.If you want to spend a fortune on fruit that LOOKS good but has NO taste, and have the kind of problems most other people who left comments here had,it's your money. They are a Rip Off.

Do not give Harry and Davids as a gift. I received what I thought was a nice gift tower from Harry and Davids. The ultimate package I think. Needless to say upon opening the chocolate had white spots. I figured the chocolate was old or bad batch or something. I sent an email to Harry and Davids letting them know I was very disapointed and had read on line it was either mold or chocolate was old. They responded telling me that it was not mold but due to climate change possibly and I could do the following in their words " You may be able to wipe off the white layer with a bit of vegetable oil or oil spray and a soft cloth or paper towel. " And we will replace it if you can give us the order number. WTF I was like what? I have to wash off my chocolates before eating them???? I should tell my boss his present sucked and btw can I have the order number please or your address so I can get a replacement and hope I do not have to wipe them before eating. What a joke. I have sent towers as Christmas gifts in the past and have had nothing but rave reviews. One couple enjoyed the fruit so much they ventured to the nearest store only to find that fruit in no way as good as what was shipped. I'm a huge fan of the chocolate covered bing cherries and I applaude your pepper relish but this year - unfortunately - the fruit was sub-par. I received as a gift from the above mentioned couple fruit, cheese, and nuts. All of the fruit was bruised. The pears looked worse than what I had just seen at a discount grocery store (Aldi's). I was shocked and never told the gal who sent it to me about the lack of quality. In stead, I contacted H & D. They appologized (thank you Andrew) and re-shipped 6#'s of pears to me (how lovely the thought). Unfortunately, they arrived 1/2 frozen (no they did not sit on our porch), and so badly beaten up we refused to even salvage them. Again I contacted H & D (by e-mail) and requested a real e-mail address to send the photos I took o... Read more

I ordered a "Christmas Red and Green Bouquet", 2 of them in fact, with a "ruby red tapered vase," on Dec. 12. They both arrived on Dec. 24 [I didn't appreciate the cliff-hanger], but with a clear glass vase. Customer service said, "too bad," they were out of the red ones, but with so much lead time, I wish they had let me know and given me the option to cancel the order or choose something else. It was only the red vase that gave the bouquet a Christmassy look. But here's what really galled me. H & D advertised "free shipping": "standard shipping savings $17.90", but then they added on, lo and behold, the exact same amount, $17.90 in "total delivery and processing charges." Did anyone notice a "processing charge" in the catalogue? It seems to me to be a bait and switch rip off without any pretense of being anything else. I called to ask. Why, that's our handling charge, the very polite lady at the other end of the phone told me. No more Harry and David for me!

I placed an order for 14 items with Harry and David on 12/13/09 thattotaled $612.00 with assurances I would get these by 12/21/09, 1 day over their advertised ground delivery maximum time. 5 items will not arrive until 12/23, with the rest coming after 12/30, after Christmas. I can’t begin to tell you how deplorable the customer service for Harry and David has been. I was outright lied to both the day I placed the order, 12/13, and then again the day I called up to check on it, 12/17. Their web site and brochure say to allow 5 business days at the latest for ground delivery. I should have received these by 12/19 according to their advertised dates. I wanted to cancel the order on 12/17 but was assured I would receive this order by 12/21 as they would expedite this order. This order still went out ground delivery even though I was assured it would arrive by 12/21. This order was never expedited, it continued to be shipped ground. I have been a good Harry and David customer for a few year. This year, I ordered early so I would not have to pay express fees. I ordered on 12/11. Today is 12/21 and they just shipped my orders. The gifts are going to a small town in Illinois where delivery is always a day or two behind most places. I would be very surprised if they arrive on time - more to the point - why did they let the order sit in their warehouse for 10 days at Christmas when their BUSINESS is all about delivery Holiday gifts? I will use someone else next time.

I had ordered previously, and was satisfied. However, this recent (and ongoing) debacle has caused me to vow I'll never again do business with Harry and David. I ordered a Harvest Fruit Tower online three weeks ago. Delivery was promised within seven days. My credit card was charged the day following order placement, but I received no email confirming the order. I thought that was strange. After two weeks and no package to he recipient, I called H&D. I spent more than a half hour with ordering and then customer service. I received several varying explanations, but the summary was that the order was botched and not sent, it was in the mail that day (unlikely since it was Sunday) and would be arriving either that Tuesday or at the latest, that Wednesday. I was promised a refund of shipping charges since the delayed shipping was their fault. When I checked tracking mid-week (to assure myself it'd been delivered) I found that it hadn't YET EVEN PHYSICALLY BEEN PUT INTO FED EX'S HANDS. Tod... Read more

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! But judge for yourself: I was supposed to have 3 items delivered to my bosses at the same address. Only 1 was delivered but HARRY and DAVID never told me! I only found out because 2 of my bosses never thanked me! I called HARRY and DAVID to complain and demand my money back. I never got my money back. But about 2 months later HARRY and DAVID sent stale and broken candy... great company!

I ordered a 3 month light fruit of the month club for my 85 year old mother in law for Christmas. The first delivery was good, but delivered in NOVEMBER. The next delivery in LATE November was a rotten pineapple. I e-mailed customer service and was told they would replace the order and resend within a week. THREE weeks later I am getting e-mails and phone calls asking for "More information". WHAT information do you need? You have ALL my information in my order. was told in early December they were going to resend a replacement. I asked for a refund and was told I would get $57 back on a $96 order. So, it cost me $39 for FOUR pears!!! Their customer service is abysmal. We are in a recession and customer service should be #1. I will never order from this company again.

Wrote to them and sent my receipt, package info, etc., they called back and said so sorry it happened, I will give you 10% off your next order. Years ago, this company was known for fruit that was very good, though rather overpriced. These days, it's still overpriced, but it's no longer any good at all. There is absolutely no reason to spend the money on a gift from Harry & David when the person you're buying it for could easily find something much nicer at a tenth the price in the produce section of the local supermarket.

I never did send or receive product from Harry and David. I tried to make a purchase online and noticed they were charging me sales tax. By law, this can only be done if there is a store in the state where the sale is originating. There are no Harry and David stores in Oklahoma. When I called them, they said they charge sales tax based on where the product is being sent. I am sure that they know this is not legal, it is just a way to make an extra few dollars here and there. Dishonest at the least, and possibly criminal. Why would anyone want to do business with a company like this?

Everything I have ever received from Harry and David has been a complete disappointment. Their tower is overpriced. I got about 4 taffy's, a bag of 1 cup of popcorn, a airplane type bag of peanuts, and some horrible candy apple flavored caramels. Hardly what is shown in the picture. I also received a basket of rotten pears, the same 1 cup of popcorn, 1/4 cup of almonds, and a beef stick. I would hardly think my Grandmother wished to send me rotten fruit and about 50 cents worth of groceries when she picked the items. This place is overpriced with horrible merchandise and misleading pictures on their website and in the catalog.

did you know you can change an order with the one purchasing the order never notified? I purchased a 6 month fruit of the month club gift for my dad, My crack addict brother went there and called H&D and had the ship to order changed to his home!! I called H&D customer service and I was the one being questioned and accused of doing something wrong. I canceled the order and H&D would never admit it but if you know someone is getting a fruit of the month gift call h&d with the box information and request the ship to address be changed. Do it on your own order just to prove it can be done. So in short your order is not safe and will be met by nasty customer service people. I will never use h&d again

I bought a subscription as a gift for family. It was expensive, but as we all love good fruit I thought it would be worth it. I was tired of the bland tasting fruit in the supermarket and was looking forward to fruit picked sweet and ripe and rushed directly to us. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's worse than supermarket fruit! It arrives hard as a stone and goes soft before it ever ripens. What's the point. When I phoned to complain I got a very defensive response that got rude so quickly I gave up. I can only say don't bother. If anyone from Harry and David reads this: Your fruit should arrive sweet and juicy and should be picked ripe. Supermarket chains have to try to extend the shelf life of their product and pick green for the product to survive the marketing process. You don't have that issue. Somehow you have missed the point of your whole business model. And then you give your customers a hard time when they call. This is a recession where luxury good... Read more

I am also an associate of H&D. I do not work in a store; I work in one of the Distribution Centers. During the holiday season we are at the MERCY of UPS and the USPS. Orders are waved and loaded into UPS and USPS trailers and delivered to their hubs. There have been times where they have had the refrigeration’s systems set at zero degrees and THOUSANDS of gifts containing fruit needed to be reshipped. Drivers leaving packages by a mailbox on rural roads, a box of pears left on the porch in zero degree weather without knocking on the doors because they are busy. The utmost care is taken from the time a piece of fruit is picked in Medford Oregon until it is packaged and shipped from a DC to the recipient. It is actually amazing with the thousands of orders being shipped daily. We strive for Customer Service in all aspects of a gift or product purchased for personal use. I ordered a gift basket with fruit in it for my grandfather and a box of pears for my mother-in-law. When checking out you can specify when you would like the items shipped and I said a day or 2 before Christmas. They arrived 2 weeks early and were spoiled by the 21st. I called Harry and Davids and after spending a half hour on the phone with them they promised to resend the items directly to my relatives houses(even though we looked like idiots not having gifts for our relatives to open on Christmas). I called Harry and Davids back and they said they didn't have any record of the pears being resent. Their ordering system is terrible. In December, they give you a "window" of time when your order "should" be delivered. Good luck with that. I ordered on Dec 12 and as of Dec 19, still wasn't shipped. They even went so far as to give me a UPS tracking number that isn't any good. I guess if you really need something from them, you need to order waaay in advance of when you need it. Not me. I'm done. Never again.

I ordered a gift tower two weeks ago to arrive at a relatives house in Michigan around the 24th during the time extended family and myself would be there. Well I found out that the tower arrived at their house on the 18th--way before the rest of the family would be there to enjoy it. I had read in previous reviews that the shipping time can sometimes be fast so I actually ordered it to be there at a later date than I needed it---Well it still arrived a week early. I called up customer service and they gave me the generic speech about how it's Christmas and they have thousands to send out and they can't guarantee that it will arrive on the specific day you select---Then why do they even offer that option?!? They ended up being extremely nice and professional and sent another gift tower to arrive specifically on the 24th--complimentary. I couldn't believe it!! I will definitely order with them again next year. Kudos to their Customer Service department.

I should have learned my lesson last year when it took over a month after card was charged to be delivered. By the way, the notice on my tracking # says shipment delayed. The cheesecake I ordered was packed frozen with freezer bags, and the cake arrived smashed and one of the liguid bags had burst. Everything was hot. Harry and David sent a replacement cake as soon as I expressed what happened. The second cake also arrived hot. THey really tried to make it right, but August is the wrong time to order their cheesecakes.

Ordered a basket for Mother's Day and it did not arrive by the scheduled day.  Called customer support and they said they'd send an apology note and refund my shipping. Also, ordered a rose plant for an elderly relative.  It arrived dead.  She was so disappointed and I felt so badly.  It took 2 more attempts before a live replacement was sent.

I am still waiting for them to ship a gift I ordered a week ago to a friend with cancer. I paid $30 for the express shipping. What a croc!

what a SCAM! I ordered 3 gifts to be delivered to the same address and only one was delivered! You would think they would call and tell me this information but no... i just had a gut instinct when i was thanked by only one of my 3 bosses. I called Harry and David and they were apologetic. They "upgraded" me to baskets that I didn't really like... then sent apology letters.... but still no gifts. It is now January 31 and the gifts were supposed to be delivered on december 18th for Christmas! They still haven't received the gifts and Harry and David just blame UPS. I would NEVER use this service again.... I am very DISAPPOINTED and would not have paid however I was charged over a month ago for the gifts that still haven't been received.

It used to be my favorite place to buy gift baskets....The customer service has gone down hill and the store managers are not nearly as professional as they used to be. I will not shop there anymore.

I read through the previous ratings and couldn't understand. I then noticed that these were dated back to 2004. things must have changed drastically since then. I worked for Harry & David over numerous seasons. We were trained to make the customer happy at whatever cost: if a gift arrives late; it's free, if there is anything, absolutely anything unsatifactory to you; you will recieve a full refund or replacement. The smallest complaint to customer service results in tremendous measures to make you, the customer, very satisfied. One thing to keep in mind is that Harry & David deals with hundreds of thousands of people every Christmas season. Your gift does go out on time (which is pretty miraculous in itself), but UPS deals with millions of packages, so a slip up here and there is only to be expected. I promise you that if you try Harry & David you will be extremely satisfied.
