I bought an 2002 Ranger Edge Supercab with the 3.0L automatic in June of 2007. It had 72,000 on it and I bought it for $8600. I love this little truck. I was a little disappointed with the power of the 3.0 but that is probably because I stepped down from a 92 F-150 single cab with a 5.0L. I mainly stepped down because I couldn't afford gas in my F-150. On average I get around 18-20mpg but when I went on a long trip across country for my wedding the highest I got was 24mpg and averaged about 22mpg. I was pleasantly surprised with the ride, it rides much nicer than my F-150. In fact sometimes it is hard to tell that you are actually driving a truck except for the fact that you are sitting a little higher. One thing that I really love about this truck is that is has a hard factory bedcover. It is split and will open both from the front or back using my ignition key. Right underneath the split on the inside is a molded bed divider. The bed liner comes up over the bed rails and has a raised ridge the the cover seals on. I have driven in some pretty hard rain and opened the cover after it had stopped and found it to be watertight. I did install a tailgate seal to help completely seal it up. The best part about this cover is that you unhook four shocks and pull two snap pins and the whole cover will lift off. The bed divider is held in place with four snap pins. The interior room is nice for two people but no more. I am 6'1" so I have the driver's seat moved almost all the way back and it is very comfortable seating even on long trips. I use the space behind the cab as storage. I like the fact that I can reach the rear sliding window without having to twist around. This truck also has the power equipment group on it. The keyless remote is very nice. The in-dash cd player did eat 5 of my cd's but I put in a Sony Xplod unit and would recommend any one that has an in-dash player to install an aftermarket unit. I know of four Ford in-dash players in my immediate family that have went bad. My Sony has worked flawless since it was installed. There was a recall on the cruise control, but Ford took care of that at no charge.Overall I have found this truck to be a very nice truck and would recommend a Ranger to other people looking for just an everyday truck that is used for transportation and light hauling. My next Ranger will probably have the 5-speed manual, 4.0L and 4x4. That is about all I would change about my truck.

All you Ranger fans think you know Ranger eh? I am on my 5th Ford Ranger now in the past 22 years. I have had a 1984 2.3 litre, 1991 2.3 litre, 2005 3 litre, and I still have my baby 1990 4.0 litre extended cab auto. I just bought myself a brand new 2009 extended cab 4X4 Ranger 4.0 litre and let me tell you. This is a nice, tough, get around truck. I love my 1990 4.0 litre extended cab auto, but I also love the the stick shift 5 speed in my new 4X4 Ranger. In my opinion, whether you are single or married with a couple of small kids, this is all the truck you need. Ranger is the way to go and I would'nt own any other truck. If you were wondering what happened to my other three trucks, well, they were really miled out. The 2005 3.0 litre was an awesome truck, but I upgraded to the the 2009 model. KEEP IT UP RANGER !!!!

I have a 2005 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 extended cab. 4.0 SOHC. Currently has 30k miles on it, not one problem so far. I really like this truck, fun to drive, the 4.0 has plenty of power, it will fly, going 80mph really seems like 60. it will go anywhere there's a half way decent road, I've never bottom it out, and I've went over humps where I was sure I was going to. I do have a few complaints about the truck, gas millage is only so-so, ride is on the stiff side, but I test drove brand new Toyota Tacomas that rode the same way, guess I was used to the ride of my dad's F150s, the open differential is really bad to cause tire spin when pulling out on wet pavement or gravel, I plan on putting a Torsen T2 in the rear when I save up the cash ($500). Overall I think it's a great truck for what I paid ($15,500, it had 20k miles on it at the time).

2005 Ranger Edge 2wd supercab 4 dr. runs great, Inherited from my dad who used it on a rural mail route (60+ miles of poor N. Fl dirt roads). Some minor complaints- have to jiggle the shifter to get the key released, power window switch on drivers side is bad. Bad blind spot where the front and rear doors meet, also not a whole lot of interior room.... I'm 6'8" with 2 kids and a wife BUT it's much better than the 2000 GMC Sonoma we had before. Rides great, good visibility, decent mileage comfortable seats and EASY TO CLEAN UP!! Overall the only main complaint is the size...ford needs to offer a true 4 door or enlarge the cab some.

I've just bought a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge. I can't seem to find a bed cover that fits the truck's raised side bed rails. The raised side rails are about 2 inches or so higher than the top of the tailgate and head of the bed. Anyone know where I can find one that is designed for it??

'03 edge, 4.1 6 cylinder supercab with 2.5" exhaust and carb mods...black on black. Runs like a raped ape, even with the Harley in the back. Have never had a problem.

Hey, Just bought a 2003 ford edge,4.0 4x4. I like it very well so far but was trying to get a professional answer on what octane to use for surpreme gas milage, either 87octane which seems like veryone uses, or higher, wanted to make sure. Right now 15 to 18 miles per gallon, country which I think is ok, depending on where i live

i was disapointed in how small the cabin space is in this truck.it could be a bit bigger.

At 1st i wasn't really a Mid-size truck fan. Since i was 15 at the time my Dad got a me a Ford Ranger 03 Edge E4 paint job with custom vynal strips. And it just grew on me.Just recently me and my friend took apart the whole inside door panal's and dash board and painted it. Yet to have problems with it though it could use a DOHC unstead of SOHC. Mainly cuz of backpressure that builds up. But a wider exhaust pipe will do the job well. Interior is kinda small but the driving is awsome.

During an accident were the truck got completely flipped upside down and two girls were in it and got out fine even though it was a head on collision and the air bags didn't deploy. The truck is extremely sturdy cause both females walked away with minimal injuries but I have to give it bad ratings because the airbags were faulty...

I just bought a 2004 EDGE a week ago, I've owned 5 other Rangers and this is by far the best one yet.I thought I woludn't like the 3.0 but it really surprised me, it has the power you want, when you want it. I'm a die hard Ford fan, and I don't under stand why chevy or dodge continues to try to compete with Ford. Ya just can't beat a Ranger no matter how hard you try.

I have a 2001 edge 2x4 with 95K on it and its been great, just a couple cracked hoses in 5 years, Im gonna drive it till it gives me trouble, its made the Florida to NC mountain trips many times with no problems!

I bought my 2002 Egde used with 27000 miles on it. Two months later the tranny went but it was still under the remainder of the factory warranty, luckely. Since then it has been smooth sailing. Good truck for the money.

I have been Driving my 2004 Ranger Edge 3 litre 5 spoeed since Feb. 2004. It is a great little truck,. It carries a larger load easier than my brothers' chevy Canyon and my nephews Chevy S10. (it looks better too) The only advantage those two have over me is gas mileage. (that's probably more my heavy foot than the truck it self) I've put more than 60,000 KM on in this 2 year period and have had no mechanical failures at all. It just works great. Love my truck

I bought a 2002 ford ranger edge 4x2 in april of 2002 with 4 miles on it. I know why it was left over from the year before. It has a 3.0 liter v6, has no power, and drinks gas. I had a 99 z71 extended cab before i bought this truck to "conserve gas" that was a mistake. The edge package includes a 4:10 gear i get about 16 to 17 mpg highway. I hate this truck and now i can't get rid of it b/c it has no resale value. I got the same gas mileage in the z71.

My first Ford purchase. 2001 Ford Ranger Edge. 60,000 miles and no problems here. Mine is Flex fuel. Only problem is that they don't sell Ethanol in my state! When they do, I will be ready. Overall, I love this truck. Great look, style and ride. Personally I love jeep wranglers. But I needed a truck, so this truck was perfect for my taste. Now I am looking for a tonneau cover for it, don't know if they make them for Edge's. Any suggestions?

I have a 2004 Ranger, and am happy as heck with it, Don't know why people dog'em. In all honesty, they could get better milage, Stock tires don't get it done, but this is my second Ranger, and my 7th Ford, and they never-ever found mine on the road dead.
TROTTER 01/30/2006
Bought 2001 Edge about 5 months ago It has the 3.0 and automatic -2WD- fun to drive it just needs more power, especially for towing my boat. Otherwise, at 33000 miles, I have had nothing go wrong with it Also it needs more room in the single cab otherwise its been great.
MariusQelDroma 12/28/2005
Found On Road Dead Regularly And Needs General Endless Repairs. Need I say more. That "Edge" thing is all gimmick. About the only worthy Ford anymore is their F-250 line that actually is built to good standards. Still a bigger fan of Bowtie and Mopar then anything else. :P

I own a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 with a 4.0L engine. I bought it in Nov 2002 and have yet to have a problem with it. It currently has 40,000 miles on it. Handles great in snow and muddy conditions. Tows great and i love the acceleration it has. It is a beast. I test drove every other truck out there and i liked this one best. I highky reccommend this truck to everyone!
Barney1997 11/16/2005
Bought a used 2002 Ranger Edge 4X2, 4 door, May 2005 with 12,000 miles, from a local Ford Dealer. They made me the best deal I could find, and I shopped several other Ford dealers as well, as well as Dodge and Chevy. I will try to give you some good points as well as the bad ones I can see ... hope this helps someone ... I like how it has a raised suspension, handles well for a truck, and seems to handle a payload well too. Plenty of power with the 3.0 V6 engine and auto trans. Gets great gas mileage, (if you do not punch the gas pedal, and try to maintain an RPM of 2000 or less.) I figure 20-22 average. It came with the towing package but I have not used it as of yet. I like the dash, gauges, heater/ac & radio controls .. all are close and easy ... the cigarette lighter is blocked from view when the shifter is in drive, and the ashtray is small and away from normal reach. The console is nice, has coin holders, 2 cup holders, and has room inside for cds and more. Another tray, and 2 more cup holders are in front of the ash tray. The seats are a bit stiff ... although the drivers has a manual lumbar with sometimes that helps a bit... The rubber floor is a blessing .. easy to clean ... The doors sound very hollow when you close them ...(like there isn't any insulation inside them. Changing the oil and filter on this one is less of a mess. I especially like not having to jack the vehicle up, or driving up ramps to be able to get underneath. There is a small funnel shaped spout under the oil filter to direct the waste straight down ... the only thing is the starter is right next to it, and so is the positive wirefrom the battery. I had a Ranger Supercab that had 250,000 miles on it and is still running ... great truck, so that's whay I bought another ... I think my old one was more comfortable in the seating, but overall, even with many years difference, they both handle close to the same. Great Truck for the money ... great value ...cound not do better in this class compared to what else is out there ...

We bougt a Ford Ranger Edge 2001 only 8 months ago and continuously having problems with it. It has a 3-inch lift and quite a looker, but otherwise I am extremely disappointed. From the beginning it loses anywhere from 1 qt.-4 qts. of oil about every two weeks (burning). The 4-wheel drive does not engage properly, the wipers do not work, the window doesn't go down smoothly, and just last night the airbag light is now on!! We won't discuss the cramped space! Pretty to look at, but not practical and continuously needing work.

Transmission went out 3 times in 3 years. 1st time 3 days after I bought in new in April of 2002, 2nd a year later, 3rd had been in some wrecks but symptoms occurred before the wrecks.

Have an 2001 Ranger Edge 4x2. Runs great except that I have to use 92 octane to prevent excessive pinging even though the manual only recommends 87 octane. Anybody else have this problem?

I have a 2001 ford ranger edge with 37,000 miles. I have ragged the poop out of it. I have done everything from crusing in it to taking it offroading (that includes 4X4 trails),and it hasn't had a problem. The best part is I have done all this and it is JUST a 2X4, and it will take more abuse than my friends 99' Chev. Silverado 4X4.

I bought my Ford Ranger Edge Supercab in August. It is a 2003 model. I love it! It drives like alot bigger trucks would. I drove it in the snow, fields and in the woods during hunting season. I loved how it had plenty of power and traction. Mine has the 4.0 under the hood. I made the right choice buying this truck.
BigAl'sEdge 08/26/2003
I have had my 03' 4x2 edge standard cab about a month. At first I looked at the chevy's but decided Ford was a much better buy for the money. Best decision I ever made, my edge drives with the suspension and feel of a much larger truck, it's 3.0 ltr engine displaces all the power I need and still delivers good fuel economy. All this with awesome looks and very affordable. The only negative reading Iv'e done ot this site is about the clutch I suspect these people must ride their clutches alot, no truck will stand up to that. Granted all auto makers produce lemons occasionally. As for me I am very happy with my choice, I highly recommend this truck to anyone that wants a quality built, attractive light duty truck at an affordable price. Ford you out did yourself this time

I Absolutely love my 2003 edge. I wouldn't have any other truck.

I bought my '01 Edge in September of 2001 from All-American Ford in N.C. This is one clean looking truck that does get attention. Price was darn good for what I received, 14,000 if I can remember correctly. If I could complain just a little I would say that the seats are a little unsupportive, but it's not a big problem. Oh! It's got a 3.0 with an automatic transmission and 40000 miles. The ranger in any level is a fairly trustworthy truck. If I could, let me add to this report some more. The day after I typed the above report I broke the handle on my tailgate. What I forgot to mention was that about a year after I bought my truck I started noticing the tailgate was getting harder to open. Looking at my truck from the back on a flat surface you could tell that the bed of the truck was higher on one side than the other putting the tailgate in a bind. well it finally put to much of a strain on the handle and it snapped. I'll keep everybody updated on weather I can get satisfaction out of our local small town dealer.

I've had a 01 Edge for 10 monthes, bought it used from the dealer.50000 Kilometers and the clutch fried.3 year/60000 km waranty, bumper to bumper won't cover it.Along with the clutch in the last 3 monthes, the C.D.player died ,fan belt went, and a still unsuccessfully repaired buzzing on cold morns.I really wonder if the clutch is going to be an ongoing, expensive bi-anual repair.

Have a 2003 Edge and already have 25000 miles without a lick of trouble.

overall, great truck. yellow full edge plus package. milage 12,000 20-22/mpg, comfortable even with along drive. 3.0l automatic. smooth shift, good acceleration. suspension excellent. interior okay. maybe trays under seat. i have had chevy, dodge, and ford. ford best overall, and bang for the buck it would be hard to beat. after one month of shopping i could not find anything, even close. one more thing, this is a head turner, males and females alike.

I love my new 03 Edge!!!!!!
Bearwarren 05/01/2003
I bought my 2001 Ranger EDGE used, in December, 2002 with less than 24000 miles on it, and really caught my eye on the lot. Enjoyed the test drive and bought it that day. It's quite a head-turner, with sharp looks (in "Candy-apple red", no less). Great-running 5 speed 6-cyl. 3.0l with a great supercab, cd player, bedliner and fog lights. Gets pretty good gas mileage too. No problems or complaints at all, after 4 months. It's great on the highway as well as in town. I'd recomment this model to anyone looking for a SLIGHTLY smaller truck that seems a lot more "solid" than my Dodge Dakota (which is a nice truck too). I think the Ranger EDGE is a far-better vehicle.
whyme 03/28/2003
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge with 25000 mi and aside from having it in 2 different dealerships at least 8 times, the clutch just went and is NOT covered under the 3yr/36000mi bumper to bumper warranty. After all the poor service and lack of concern by Ford Motor Company, it's no suprise. So, I'm sure a lot of folks have great luck with theirs, but be ware, because when it needs fixing, you'll be paying! Never had a problem with any other manual transmission (6 so far), in fact, had 95,000mi on my 93 Mazda (before Ford bought them out)! I used to preach "Buy American", but Ford is not in the cards for me anymore. Hopefully I'll have better luck with Chevy!

I have had my ranger edge for almost two years now and I am very happy with it. As a firefighter I put my truck through alot more than most people do and I must say this truck has stood up to the challenge very well I would recomend this truck to anyone who's looking for a great dependable pick-up with out the price of a full size you've found your winner.
