The Super 5 mix formula doesn't fit for My Alaskan puppy. His excrement becomes so watery. Poor dog dog!

I brought home a new bag of Wellness for Large breed puppies. He had been on wellness before. I bought a bag of adult Wellness for large breeds for a friend's Golden at the same time. Both dogs became ill. Mine developed severe Nausea, vomiting, diarreha. 5 trips to the VET treated with shotgun approach of IV fluids, antibitoics, pepcid, cerenia, reglan--you name it. Was put on a special Rx canned food--got much better. Started reintroducing the Wellness---now BLOODY diarrhea. My 8 month old puppy tested negative for EVERYTHING--liver, kidneys-normal. No pancreatitis. No obvious toxins. Negative stool for any parasites etc. etc. There is something seriously wrong with the Wellness dog food. Our breeder just took all her Goldens off the Wellness because they weren't thriving! I don't care about the money--but so far this has cost over $2000.00 in Vet bills. I am glad we have Pet insurance. Do not give your dogs Wellness. Our baby almost died.

Hate it! I was feeding Wellness Puppy to my litter of puppies and they got very sick. They had no virus. It was the food. They were vomiting and had diarrhea. I stopped the food after figuring it out and switched to Acana (which I knew was a good kibble but couldn't find locally). Immediately after the first full day of Acana, their poop started to harden. And within a couple days they started to poop normally. I returned the left over bag of Wellness Puppy to the store I bought it at and insisted on a refund, which I got. I called the company and they offered to mail me some coupons. I told them I would not feed their food again, why would I want coupons. They insisted on mailing them. What did I get? Two $5 off coupons for any Wellness product. ???? $10 toward their product was supposed to make me feel better that THEY made my puppies sick?? Ridiculous. While speaking with the Wellness rep on the phone, I kept trying to get them to take down the UPC/lot number. They said they d... Read more

I have an australian shepherd/husky mix that I got for free from a box in front of Wal-Mart. I first tried some cheaper foods like Authority from PetSmart and Nature's Recipe. She broke out from both of them and had horrible gas! I then tried Avoderm thinking the avocados would help with her dandruff and rash but it made it even worse, I didn't even think that was possible! When PetSmart got Wellness I tried the Fish & Potato limited ingredient diet and I noticed the difference right away. Her coat is so shiny, her gas is gone, and no more rash! The food is a little expensive, but if my dog is healthy and happy I will gladly buy a bag of Wellness!

I had my GSD on this for 2-3 months and he began to deveop horrible hot spots all over his body. In addition to that, his stool was always runny. My dog was miserable and I thought it was all from fleas although I never saw any fleas on him or anywhere else. When I though back a bit I realized his symtoms coincided with the time I began feeding him Wellness. As soon as I switched to a different brand, he was 100% better. I spent alot of money on his food, but thought it was worth it because my dog would be healthy. I never though it would make him sick instead.

WELLNESS PUPPY - YELLOW BAG I put my now 8.5 month old Boxer male on this food at around 4 months of age. From the start, his stool was not only often milk shake consistency at best, but also watery at worst. He grew well while eating it, but his digestive system was a wreck the whole time. I bought some Prozyme and Acidophilus capsules which helped for a while, but STILL never aided in getting a normal, solid poo. I was also adding Pumpkin - WHY THE HELL DO I NEED TO ADD ALL THESE THINGS TO SUCH A SUPPOSEDLY GREAT FEED IN THE HOPES OF GETTING A NORMAL STOOL?!! Now, even with those supplements added, his stool has returned to MUSH. He also has red, yeasty paws and hot spots at the front of his neck. Also, he passed A LOT of sickly, foul smelling mucus daily while eating this food. Everyday like clockwork, the last elimination of the previous day's food was a jelly like blob of yellow mucus. I honestly thought that this was just the way his digestive system was at one point. ... Read more

i recently adopted my pup "Sasha" from the pound..i started her on Iams since the pound gave me a sample bag of it...I did some research and found that a lot of store brands were junk..so i picked Welllness for puppies..It seemed to be good and cheaper than other high end choices. Now i am concerned after reading these reviews..I have had her on it for two months and in that time she has done well on it..except for three episodes of vomiting and one bout of diahhrea that lasted about 5 bms....but i dont think its the food. For her size, the recommended amount of food is two cups a day..i break that down into 3 feedings...she would vomit in the morning bcs i think she was gorging on the food and couldnt handle the amount...so i gave her less in the morning and more the rest of the day..she did fine but seemed as if she was always hungry...so i decided to give her 3 cups a day instead of 2...big mistake!Thats when the diahrea occurred...back down to 2 and no problems..i think maybe this... My Staffie is very picky about dry food, I've been feeding him from Science Diet to Blue Buffalo, then to Solid Gold, then again to Wellness Green Bag(Lamb&Salmon). Usually these foods took him awhile to get used to when I start my switching food progress. However, miraculously it only took 1 meal until my staffie start eating completely the dry food from Wellness and he still does. Back when I tried to feed him other dry food from a different brand, whenever he dropped them from his mouth, he never bothered to eat them again. But he would lick the floor clean whenever a piece of Wellness dry food fell on the ground. This shown how much my dog loves Wellness. So I've decided to stick with this brand for a long time. Also he is still doing fine in case for anyone who is wondering.

I bought Wellness Allergies ground rice Salmon for my sheltie. He recently developed allergies atopic food maybe. He was chewing ,licking all 4 paws and they got red, lost fur on his paws.I did a slow transaction of Wellness to the food he had(2 weeks) and it started off as really bad gas then just plain diarrhea-explosive as well!He started to projectile watery poo out of his a$$.All over my walls-floors!That was a mess to clean up let me tell you!My poor dog.The 1st ingredient is ground rice and then salmon.I might as well buy him grocery store dog food with ground corn as 1st ingredient. Why add tomato pace or flax seed?I wonder if this was good for my dog.I don't trust any dog food company now.I started to research dog food and I'm in shock what I learned about it.Don't be fooled thinking the most expensive dog food is the one you should trust. These companies want us to feel all warm and fuzzy with added vitamins ect..but the truth is no good food is really in it.No wonder why they h... My coworker, my dad and myself have all been feeding our pets wellness brand food. My co-worker said that her dog was acting clingy and unusually extra friendly, and I noticed that my cat and my dads cat were all acting the same as well. She took her dog to the vet, and he informed her that she was dehydrated and had kidney damage from her food. So she googled wellness and found that cans dated in May were making peoples pets very sick and found alot of people writing in to complain about it. It appears that they were purchased by a large company and their quality has substantially slipped. She changed her food immediately, and is now back to normal and the vet said her kidney is better. Please have your pets checked asap if they have behavior changes as well.

I like the food it's awesome, really. But.... it was a little expensive..... so now she is on Taste Of The Wild dog food High Prarie formula. Around here, a 4lb bag of Wellness Super5Mix Small Breed is $14 while a 5lb Taste Of The Wild dog food bag costs $10. Also, Taste of The Wild is natural and grain free. But, I DO buy the Wellness 95% canned. Pepsie just LOVES this in her food! She won't eat it without it. Overall, Wellness is one of the best foods out there but getting a bit expensive.

2 stars I put my Aussie/Blue Heeler/Lab mix on Wellness Whitefish and Sweet Potato to help his coat be a little more healthy and shed less. His coat looked great, but he was noticeably gassy, and around the same time, he developed a chronic eye infection. We thought that it had something to do with a foster Labrador that we had just recently brought into the house, and continued to treat him with eye ointment. We also put the Lab on Wellness Whitefish and Sweet Potato because she was not tolerating her previous Costco Kirkland's Lamb and Rice that well, and was quite itchy. I thought something all-natural would be good for her, too, however she developed very troublesome loose stools, despite the diminished itchiness. The vet said that all-natural food can be too rich for some dogs' systems, so the Lab is on Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach and is doing well. As soon as I switched the Aussie mix to Solid Gold Lamb and Rice, the eye infection went away. I can accept that it... Read more

Wellness Super 5 for Large puppy is giving my 4.5 month old Rottweiler puppy horrible gas and loose stool, and he seems excessively thirsty, probably from the loose stool...it's really just about diarrhea...he has been to the Vet several times in the last few month obviously given his age, for shots and whatnot, and he has no underlying issues... I'm done with this. This is the 4th bag we have bought, but only the second large (30lb) bag. As strange as it sound when I had the 15lb bags, he had gas but not as bad and his stool was formed...now once again, it's terrible. When we had the first 30lb bag the Vet suggested adding plain yogurt to his diet for the gas...and I have to laugh here because this is a kibble that was recommended by him!! It worked for a while but since I purchased this new bag earlier this week, it's been horrible...I have a senior Rottie (10yrs old) who is on the senior Wellness formula which seems to be fine...perhaps it's something in the puppy blend...someone e... I bought this food because I was trying to feed my 4 year old lab mix something a little better for her than the Beneful/Goodlife REcipe/whatever is on sale that I normally get at the grocery store. Unfortunatey, I think she is allergic to something in this food. She's never had a reaction like this before. I tried her on Innova as well and that was fine, but with this stuff she started itching really bad. The thing is that we picked up fleas at the dog park at the same time so I though the fleas were responsible, but no they are gone and she still itches and has crazy flakey skin. It didn't occur to me that it could be a food allergy until the trainer at the class we've been going to took a look at her skin and coat and asked if we'd changed food recently.I bought some Beneful the same day and started giving her half at benedryl in the morning and evening and now she is much better. This gets 2 stars because she really liked the taste and would eat it pretty quickly, bus alas it is n... Read more

I found this video on youtube claiming there are "razor-like fish bones" in the dry food. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB6K2BBd518 I decided to go through my bag and was appalled to find that approximately 10% of the kibble did indeed have sharp fish bones - sharp and hard enough to break skin. I immediately took my bag of Wellness back to the pet store and they assured me they would be contacting the Wellness Corporate office. Had I not seen that video I would never have noticed the fish bones. Even if I'm in the minority and happened to get a bad batch (which should never have happened anyways being that the food is so expensive), I strongly encourage you to thoroughly check the food for your kitty's sake! Here are photos of my findings: http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/6029/dscf1548m.j pg http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/51/dscf1553.jpg

I have switched to at least 4 different dog foods and Then chose Wellness we started with the blue bag white fish and sweat potatoes. didn't do well so after many loose stools and stools in her crate we switched to the purple bag chicken formula and still loose stools and loose stools in her crate. we took her to the Vet no worms and said keep trying this food. I though about blue buffalo, but stuck to this brand. Then a couple weeks ago we switched to the Green bag Lamb and Salmon formula had lots of meat and Bam her coat was soft shiny. No more loose stools. I feel this is a great brand if you go to their website I has a dictionary for the ingredients you don't know what it is you just look it up there and it tells you. This brand is great no by products or corn no fillers with human grade food. When i feed my dog I feel i am feeding her the best i can feed her. I think though it take some picking and choosing which dog formula is best for your dog.

Wellness is giving my doggie loose bloody stools! OMG I am so glad I found this website. We rescued our two year old Chihuahua a month ago, and the shelter we got her from fed her Iams, but she didn't really like it, and I wanted a food that was better for her, as well as tasty! After a lot of research I choose the Wellness for small breeds. She loves it! She devours it. I took a week to transition her completely to Wellness, to avoid the Diarrhea and upset stomach of sudden transition. But now that she is completely transitioned, her poop is becoming looser and looser. Yesterday it had shape and was really really soft, today it is just a liquid mess. She also had a few spots of blood. My heart broke, I was so scared she had worms, or some horrible problem. I planned on taking her to the Vet tomorrow, but tonight I am switching her back to Iams with no transition, and I will see if that helps. This website may have just saved me a TON of money in vet bills. After I confirm th... Read more

Just a comment on the person who wrote about the dangers of copper sulfate and sodium selenite in Wellness brands of dog food. If you look around at nearly any other brand of dog food, especially the so-called better brands, both of those minerals are included. The reason I believe is that they are considered essential minerals needed by living things. I believe you would have to look at the amount included--if it within safe tolerances then it is probably ok. Maybe your animal has a specific reaction to them where others may not.

I have used this dog food in the past with fair results. While I had to switch my dogs food many times due to allergies, he was doing fair on this food. It has good, quality ingredients and the company has a good, reliable history. I would recommend this food as a good quality dog food. They have many formulas, from regular to protein focused to allergy formulas. Pretty good dog food, especially for dogs with no allergies. The only down side I would have is that some of the formulas are difficult to find. For example, in the city I live, which is considered large, I cannot find anything other than the regular formulas. I was going to try the allergy formulas for my dog but due to difficulty finding them I switched to another brand. If you can find the formula that works for your dog, this is a great food.

About two years ago, we swithed our 4 yr old boxer (Lola) to Wellness Healthy Weight dry dog food. It was amazing :) She loved eating it, she lost weight and felt so much healthier. She had such an obvious change in mood. I would refuse to feed her anything else no matter how much it cost. We even bought her Wellness treats. BUT Two months ago we bought another bag of her normal Wellness food at the same pet store we'd been using for years, when we opened it at home it was full of mothlike bugs and larve or worms. We understand mistakes happen so we returned the bag to the pet store and tried buying the same thing from a different pet store. When we got that bag home it was ALSO filled with mothlike bugs and worms!!! It was clearly an issue with Wellness NOT the pet stores. SO We decided to just switch brands, and tried Science Diet. Lola hated it. It also made her have some problems with bowel movements, they were much harder and clearly she wasn't feeling well. I understand th... Read more

I feed all five of my dogs Wellness Products, with great results. I have two senior Jack Russells on the Wellness Senior Food.... they are healthy ( I just had a blood panel pulled and all is well), and for their age (12 years), they are energetic and have a great appetite. I have a 2 year old Jack Russell on the Wellness Core reduced fat food- she is everyone's favorite and gets too many treats for her own good. She is at a good weight now, full of energy and has a beautiful coat. My 2 year old German Shepherd is on the Wellness Complete Health, for she has a allergy to chicken and this is a Lamb based food. She is doing great on it, since she is a black Sable her coat is beautiful and shiny. Everyone ask me what I feed her. My 15 month old German Shepherd is on Wellness Core Original Formula, he is a working Sport dog who needs the Protein. I would not feed my dogs anything else. I have used the canned puppy food a few times now and Emma likes it. Good ingredients and she likes the texture better than some others. She also loves the puppy treats, they are soft and easy for her to chew. She can't stand hard treats. I will most likely be using the wellness core when she moves to adult food as a part of her rotation so I'll update with how that goes when the time comes. My mom is also considering switching her dogs to wellness core and they are very sensitive shetland sheepdogs. So I will update with them also, they are currently on solid gold barking at the moon. I work in a pet store and everyone I talk to that uses this brand is very happy with it and one of our groomers in particular highly recommends it to doggy customers with skin troubles. update:my moms shelties have been on wellness core for about 3 months now and they are doing GREAT on it! This dogfood is wonderful. My dogs were on Royal Canin before switching to Wellness. One of my three shih tzus scratched all the time on her old food. The other got yeast infections in her ear all the time and licked her feet alot which are all signs of food allergies. The other Shih Tzu also got yeast infections in her ear. I switched them to wellness small breed formula. The itching stopped. They yeast infections stopped and my one stopped licking her paws. This stuff has been wonderful. They all act like they feel better too. They have had no stomach upsets from this food. I could not believe the people saying this food was junk. Do your reviews. This dog food rates most places in the top 10. The people saying this food is junk need to understand that some breeds are prone to digestive upsets no matter what and some breeds have digestive problems. Did these people convert them properly from one dog food to another? Probably not. You cannot just switch them overnight... Read more

Daisy had a very sensitive tummy and had to eat a special food for a while it got too expensive so after a year I decided to try their chicken one and she was fine and ate it to!! Soft coat and no more eye stains. I did switch eventually because I wanted to try something grain free.

Like others have reported, my Boston puppy had TERRIBLE digestive / bowel issues while on Wellness Just for Puppy. This food caused frequent explosive / projectile diarrhea for the three weeks I fed it to my puppy. She was unable to hold her bowel movements more than 2 hours. Often the diarrhea contained streaks of blood. She was seen by a vet three times where various tests were performed; nothing irregular found. After reading similar horror stories I switched her to Innova Puppy Formula dry kibble and supplimented pumpkin puree mixed with Nutri-Cal for puppies (to add flavor to the bland pumpkin). Within two days her stool returned to normal and she is able to hold her movements for much longer periods. Thank you for the many informative reviews! I'm sure Wellness products are good, but after seeing the effects it had on my puppy I can not in good conscious recommend it to anyone.

My three dachshunds have been on Wellness their entire lives and they thrive on it. Their coats are beautiful, they are in superb physical condition, and they are all lively...playful...energetic dogs. I rotate their cuisine: dry chicken formula, dry lamb formula, and dry fish formula. They eat Wellness exclusively except for their daily noon treat of chicken breast. I researched in depth numerous dog foods, and after weighing a number of factors settled on Wellness for my pack. I've never regretted the decision, their health and well being are worth every penny I pay for Wellness.

They don't have any skin problems or any health issues and haven't since we started wellness. It is nice to see a brand that doesn't have fillers, by-products, or artificial flavors. I only rate it 4 stars because my dogs have very large (although firm) and smelly stools which can be improved with a raw or home cooked diet. First, I would like to preface that I am not the type of person to write reviews. Despite being a tech entrepreneur, I am rarely impressed or unhappy enough with a particular product to spend the time writing something about it. That said, I highly recommend that you do not purchase this dog food for your dog. Initially, my girlfriend and I fed our dog a very expensive wet food brand. After about a year of owning our Maltipoo, we figured we would switch to a dry dog food to save us a little time and money (defrosting and preparing the wet food could be time consuming). Having received a recommendation from a close friend, we thought we would give Wellness a try. The brand seemed to be big on the natural ingredients and it seemed like more of premium (i.e., I care about my dog) brand, and I suppose we liked that. HOWEVER, after roughly three weeks into the food, our dog got as sick as we've ever seen her in her one year life time. Thinking it was the treats we were giving her, w... Read more

Another one of my favorites... meat is the first two ingredients in the bag, and corn, wheat, soy, gluten, and byproducts are not present. My problem with Wellness is minimal, and the same problem I have with some other top-echelon brands... rice fractions/fragments. Whole grain brown rice is the fifth ingredient in the bag, then rice bran is the second. Why the needd for additional bran if you're already using the whole grain earlier in the ingredients list? Rice bran is then a filler ingredient, and unimportant. Still, a superior brand of food made even more so because of it's nationwide Petco availability.

When I first brought my gal home, I was giving her Wellness-Just for Puppy and she was fine on it. Her stools were ok. But slowly, she started to have some fur loss on her body and vet advised me to change her diet to a fish-based one, so I switched her out of Wellness. While on the fish-based diet, her stools were ok, nice and firm. Recently, her skin got better, I tried giving her Wellness Puppy again by gradually mixing it into her fish kibbles. Then she started to have loose stools. Initially, I had attributed this to the changing of foods, as this can occur during the process. But during the week of feeding her Wellness, her loose stools continued and she also developed rashes on her body. Immediately, I stopped giving her Wellness and continued with her fish diet. Then her stools became firm again and her rashes went away. I do believe that Wellness is still a much better brand than some others out there, but my gal cannot take it. Hence, I give it a rating of 3 stars.

I started my pem corgi on Science Diet and switched to Wellness after it was recommended by a co-worker whose pitt has bad allergies and could only have a few specific brands. I trusted in his research and have been pleased with the results. Wesley loves the food and I never had problems with appetite, stool, or weight gain. He is a lean, healthy dog: 2 years, 4 months, good coat (lots of shedding though), no health issues so far, 21 lbs. (20-25 is healthy for corgis), and can do a 3 mile jog with me no problem. I was able to switch freely between any of the Wellness dry kibble, including the Core variety. Then my co-worker alerted me that the Wellness company had been bought out, the recipe changed, and that his poor dog was having serious reactions to the switch. Well, Wesley has NOT had any problems, but as my concerns over cost were already making me consider switching him to another brand, I will now do so. I put my 14 pound Boston/Frenchie mix dog on Wellness Adult when he was about 6 mos old (he had previously eaten Purina One Puppy and I wanted him on a better quality diet), and he vomited the Wellness up about twice a month. I then put him on Wellness Small Breed, and over a year later, he's still gobbling it up and has never had vomiting nor diarrhea. The problem with the Wellness Adult was that the kibbels were too big, he would gobble them up, and they would expand like little sponges in his belly and he couldn't keep it all down. Maybe that's the issue for some of your pets?
