Advantage Rent-A-Car 1

Customer care - Very Very Poor
they will hold your money from your card with out informing u or sign any paper. No body over knows how to deal with a customer...
Also Hertz is palying this cheap play under a different brand name... Due to this i hate Hertz also.. I will try to avoid these two in my life..

I would give this one a minus if I could! Beware!

Since we were vacationing in a group with 6 people, we made our reservation for a mini-van at the Maui Kahului airport 6 months in advance.

When we arrived at the airport the window for Advantage was shut. Since it was fairly early in the morning we thought perhaps they weren't open yet and waited for about a half hour. We never saw any of their vehicles so we called their customer service number from our cell phone and were given an endless recording. No one ever picked up the line. We finally asked someone at one of the other rental car windows if anyone knew their hours or how to contact them and were told that they shut down their operation several weeks early and only gave their employees 2 hours notice. We were never notified that the company was closing down it's operations on Maui. (The other company that gave us this information had no cars available to rent so they had no motive for giving us false information.)

If you make a reservation with them, be sure to make a back-up reservation with a second company or you may be left high and dry!

the thread below says it all. Worthless apology but never received a follow up.

This company's link should be removed from the Airport's website, and I will be writing them to that effect.

I am sorry that we did rather poorly during this entire rental process, we normally do much better.

I have forwarded your message onto the airport manager for his review.

Again I apologize for the difficulties that you went through.

This is just a follow up email to express my disappointment with your (Toronto) Airport Branch office and the service, or lack thereof I received on June 16th Reservation#:
Start: 2009-06-16 22:00:00
End: 2009-06-18 17:00:00
In short, I called the morning of June 16th to re-confirm my rental, and was abruptly told I did not have to reconfirm, someone will pick me up. I indicated what happens if the flight is delayed and again told "someone will be there to pick me up."
I arrived at 10:35pm, no one was there to meet us. I called the numbers provided on the reservation, got answering machines. Left my number for them to return my call - NEVER GOT A RESPONSE. Had to travel that night with my 7 month baby after waiting 1 hr to see if anyone would appear. Called the next day from downtown to express my disappointment and continue with the reservation as the right thing to do, only to be told there was no one available to drop off a vehicle, rather I would be required to travel back to the airport to pick one up. I cannot believe this is how your representatives do business.

You are welcome to respond before an official complaint is lodged.

I used Advantage while in Vegas because I paid almost nothing for the car. A grand total of 63 dollars for a few days driving about Vegas. My car was ready when I got there and I didn't wait. The workers were very friendly, but I did have one problem and only one! When I went to return the car I had taken it to a gas station for a refill and the tank would not hold any more gas. The pump kept clicking so I thought ok no more gas. Well, when I got to the rental lot the line was a smidge below full and I explained what had happened and they still made me pay 13 dollars for them to fill the tank. Granted, this brought my total to 63 dollars so I was not about to complain too much!

We recently rented a car from Advantage in Orlando for a week. It was the Int'l Airport location on Semoran. This was the worst experience I've ever had with renting a car.
It took me over 45 minutes to get a car. There was no one in line when I got there. They claimed to have a new system. They tried to up sell me when they didn't have the car I ordered. After my starving children went bullistic I did as well. The manager couldn't have cared less that I had been there that long and didn't offer to do anything about it.
They have recently sold to Hertz and you can tell they don't give a d-mn about customer service.
Don't use them.

I rented a car for a week and when I returned it I forgot my GPS inside it. I know I forgot it in the car because I used it to drive to the drop off destination, Denver airport in Colorado.
I called the day after (Saturday morning) and they asked me to call again on Monday because there were nobody in the Lost & Found department. Long story short, on Tuesday they responded my call telling me that my GPS was not there, and since they were unable to have a record of all the people who interacted with the car (received it, cleaned it, etc), no actions will be pursued to clarify the situation.
Even more they questioned my words, suggesting I was lying, like if I had nothing to do but to call the Customer Service department to make up a story.
Not only these guys lie about not having found my GPS, but they are thieves.
For sure I forgot it in the car and this is my responsability, but they stole it and gave me no answers as a Customer. Never deal with them again.

Do you want to rent from a company that closes a renal site without letting customers know? Then Advantage is the car rental company for you. On 2/13/09 I went on the advantage web site and using my confirmation number printed up a receipt for my rental reservation in Fort Myers FL. When My family arrived at the airport the next day Advantage was no where to be found. Having to walk up to another companie's counter without a reservation during a holiday week costs me hundreds of extra dollars.
The jerks at Advantage had my email address as I had booked on line. All they needed to do was send me an email that they would not be honoring my reservation!

My only consolation is hearing how much the cars suck once you get them. May be they did me a favor by not being there for me.

I used expedia to pre-pay for a rental car. When I picked it up, I was told that for $25 I would be covered for collisions, scratches, etc. The guy had me initial a receipt for $206, which I believed was a receipt that contained the price per day for the rental, the coverage, and the taxes. It turns out it only contained the coverage and the taxes...instead of $25 for coverage, it was $25 per day! When I called to complain, they would not do anything about it. I will never rent from here again...Oh...and the car had multiple holes and nasty stains in the back seat, scratches on the doors, and no snow scraper (I rented it in Denver in December and had to buy one). Not to mention...the other customers that were picked up by the shuttle were told that advantage had no cars for them, so they had to go to Hertz...I can only imagine the hassles they had to deal with...

One of the most horrible experiences we have had with Rental cars. They have unsafe cars. The tires were totally bald, when we called for a replacement vehicle, they asked us wait for 10 hrs. they told us to change the tires and told us that we would be reiembursed for that amount.

Its been over 12 weeks and no response from them. Every attempt to get information from the customer service has been unsuccessful.

We would never ever recommend anybody to rent a vehicle from Advantage

Wish I could give 0 stars! Reserved a compact car to pickup at their reno office. Confirmed reservation on the phone the night before. Arrived at 6am and they said they weren't allowed to rent any cars until 8am when the manager arrived. Apparently they were sold out and the employee working the early shift didn't know what to do. With no help from advantage we managed to get a car from Avis for a comparable price. The Avis agent helpfully told us advantage has been sold out for weeks. Also their Reno office is in a trailer barely fit for human habitation. Never again.

Reserved an SUV (Jeep Grand Cherokee) through Expedia a good 8 weeks before my trip to Phoenix, AZ. Arrived to find they had no cars. The shuffled me down to another company that wanted to put me in a suzuki. I wanted/needed a mid/full sized suv (4 adults, 1 toddler w/car seat & luggage). Went back to advantage counter and proceeded to receive the worst customer service ever. It escalated to the point that I seriously thought I was going to be arrested. Tempers finally cooled and a deal was made with National/Alamo. I'll never consider Advantage ever again, not that it will matter because I doubt they'll be in business 6 months from now...

My first/last time renting from Advantage ... I arrived to Oahu, HI with my mom, wife, and infant son with me. First off, we needed a car seat for my son so we made sure to call in advance to make sure they had one for us. They said they have some but couldn't garauntee that it would still be there when we arrived and we couldn't have them save one for us for that particular time when we got there. So we decided to risk it and they did have one when we got there, but they never mettioned that it was going to be an extra $10/day. So not having much of a choice we agreed.

After a day of driving and exploring the island we were coming down the H2 highway and got a flat tire -- we didnt' hit anything and just thought it was an unfortunate turn of events, but made the best of it. There were no puncture holes or nails, no nothing, just a flat tire. It was the tire bead that blew out. They rented me and my family a car with a bad tire!!

So we replaced the tire with a spare and returned the car. We were thinking for our inconvenience we'd at least get an apology or something, but nothing. Just a stern face and an inceident form .. not even a 'have a good day' or 'thanks for renting with us' .. A few months later we get a bill for $170 from a collections place, Viking, that they turned it over too. They said they replaced the whole tire and sent me the bill for it. Those mailto:*@&$.

So I'm making my goal to spread the word about their unsafe vehicles and unfriendly service. I will never rent from this company again and I hope noboday else does either, unless you just want a POS car and no service along with it

No matter how much the two people state that 40+ of us have no idea about rental cars...that is ridiculous. I travel multiple times per month and saw on travelocity how much more I could save with advantage after being with enterprise for years. I have NEVER experienced the rudeness, dirty car, mark up of prices and dishonest dealing at any other rental facility. Hertz, Avis, Entreprise have all received my business and I have never had the horrible service that I had this past week. The company continues to charge me for nothing after I dropped off the car days ago. This is a terrible company and I am contacting the BBB on them for their dishonest, misrepresentation of their services. This isn't a lack of knowledge of rental facilities-this is simply a terrible company to use and I have told everyone I know to NEVER, EVER use the company!

RUN from this car rental joint... the Las Vegas "ADVANTAGE mafia" stiffed us, by saying we caused a small hole in the windshield. WHICH WE DID NOT! These jokers can't speak English, and when we drove up to return the vehicle, immediately went to the spot on the windshied and said "YOU MAKE HOLE" to which we responded "OH NO WE DIDN'T" This was a set-up, we only drove 30 miles while in Vegas on crowded cith streets, going 25 mph.. no way did we do this. But they charged us $75 for it and charged our cc,

Bottom line-there are reputable rental car places out there, but THIS ISN'T ONE OF THEM. Take this as a warning... these are NOT people you want to give your hard earned money to, they are as dishonest as they come.

I Just rented from Advantage in Denver and had no problems. First consider that I paid an amazingly low rate of $6 per day. I had to wait a bit longer (7 minutes) for a shuttle than people waiting for other rental shuttles. The outside of the car was dirty, the inside was clean enough. I was upgraded for free. I was not hassled about denying all the extras. The customer service was above average. The car worked. XM Radio. I couldn't believe the rate I was paying and had a great weekend. When I returned a shuttle took me immediately to the terminal. I was charged exactly what I expected.

This is the third time I've rented from Advantage (usually the rate is nowhere near $6/day) and I've never had a single problem. The cars are never freshly washed. Feel free to pay more to someone else if that's important to you.

Never rent a car from this company. Their cars are cheap and dirty. I have waited at the airport for 30 minutes before they could arrive to pick me up. What's a horrible.
In addition, they've charged me other hidden fee up to $157.50 a few months later. Becareful with this company. They are cheap and dishonest. Also, read carefully what you've signed. They could bill you couple hundred dollars months later.
I've never want to deal with them again.

Never rent from this company. They use deceptive marketing and selling practices, and will charge you for everything extra that they can, even when you have explictly said you don't want the various little add-ons they attempt to push on you to increase the fee. Their cars are cheap and poorly maintained as well. So, while they might seem to have cheaper prices, in the end you'll end up paying more, get horrible customer service, and be stuck with a well-used car. Better to go with Hertz and Avis and pay a bit more for something reliable, and a company that does not cheat you.

WORST rental car agency by far!! I actually give it zero stars but am unable to proceed. I paid in full for a full size SUV, then when I arrived, they gave me the smallest SUV there was! They said this was 'similiar' to the one I ordered. Well, just imagine new car dealers trying to get away with this excuse! Yes Mr. Smith, you paid for a Corvette, but this Chevette is similiar! On top of that, they tried to get me to pay an extra $46/day for 'extra' insurance! I will NEVER rent a car from this scam operation, nor will I ever recommend this to anyone!!!! This place should be investigated and/or shut down!!!!!!!!!!!

Booked online thru Samsclub travel. Got a great rate of $155 for 10 days. When we arrived in Orlando, waited in line for an hour then it took almost another hour of arguing about the size of the car and if all 5 of us could fit and buying mandatory $100/day insurance. The agent was a rip off artist and she was very rude and SO SLOW. She then told us there w as not an intermediate car available and we would have to pay an extra $10/day. We said NO! We finally made it out of there but it was a HORRIBLE experience to the beginning of a wonderful vacation. They better not overcharge me, I will be checking my credit card bill closely over the next couple of months! I will never rent from them again!

I was charged $189.82 on a car I rented when I was told by Advantage that I would only be charged $26 since I rented the car for only a few hours. I contacted their customer service only to be treated with disrespect. I was transferred to various people and hung up on. The manager that I finally reached burped on the phone and said he would check into the charge and call me later. I have never heard back from him. I will never rent from Advantage and am disgusted with the way they do business.

Beware of any special offers from Advantage! I found a great internet special and ending paying 3xs what I was quoted and put up with the worst customer service imaginable.

I was flying into Denver, Colorado on a three day trip and needed to rent a car to travel to Breckenridge. I found a internet special from Advantage offering a Spring Break special which would waive the young drivers fee. It was valid in 13 states including Colorado. I booked the car through the link on the website and had no issues. I received the confirmation the day before with a charge showing $0 for the young drivers fee.

When I arrived at the Denver airport at almost midnight I was charged 3Xs what I was quoted because the Young Drivers fee was not waived. The manager accused me of making up the deal arguing that it was illegal to waive young drivers fees. The following day I called customer service to get the charge refunded. Again, I was greeted by a rude, combative agent that didnt believe the special existed. She almost hung up on me, but I forced her to type in the website. She read the special back to me and then abruptly put me on hold when she read the young drivers fee was waived. Twenty minutes later she came back the phone to tell me that Denver did not participate in the special. Isnt Denver in Colorado??? stated specifically in the special? Apparently not I was told it was my responsibility to verify the specials they offered were actually honored before I traveled. Not giving up, I called once more a few days later hoping to get a better customer service agent. This time, Denver was included in the special, but they couldnt change my charges because the account was closed!!!

Moral of the story is avoid Advantage at all costs!

My experience was the worst either my husband or I have had ever with a rental car company. Their website stated an Intermediate car rental would provide me with a Dodge Avenger "or similar". Since I had previously rented the Avenger (from Thrifty) I knew this size car was appropriate. However, when I arrived to pick up my Intermediate car I was given a Toyota Corolla which upon inspecting I quickly realized was much smaller than the Avenger or similar sized sedan. I inquired with the rental agent if the Corolla was a Intermediate car and was told it was not, but they did not have any available, therefore my only options were to pay for an upgrade, wait until the next day for an Intermediate to become available (they could not tell me a specific time), or keep the Corolla. I voiced my displeasure with these "options" but wanting to continue my vacation, left with the Corolla. Later I called the Advantage Reservation hotline and was told by their rep that a Corolla was indeed a COMPACT car, but that I would have to speak with Customer Service to resolve the issue. I followed up with Customer Service and the agent there contradicted the Reservations and Rental Agents by saying a Corolla was an INTERMEDIATE car. All in all, no resolution was offered and none of the information provided by Advantage was accurate or consistent. It is obvious that this company is only interested in making extra money on upgrades and there is no real concern for the customer. I will never again rent from them and hope you do not.

Where is the zero star rating???

I've quite a bit of experience with car rentals. This was my first (and last!) dealing with Advantage. I was quite shocked to discover they charged me an additional $200+ because I did not return the keys in the drop box, I left them in the ignition. Apparently my car was not "processed" until several days after I returned it and they decided I returned it 3 days after the fact. The charges are in dispute and I do anticipate they'll be removed but what an inconvenience to have to make various calls, write a letter, compile and fax various documents. I wonder how many people never even bother and just pay the erroneous charges?

With that aside, my car had over 30,000 miles on it and I felt as though the wheels would fall off. It felt very unsafe. Honestly I don't think I've ever rented a car with such high miles on it before. I'll take my business elsewhere from now on.

They have hidden charges that make their quote uncompetitive if they were exposed.

When I asked an employee at the Las Vegas airport location to honor thier quote, I was told to "go somewhere else, you've just wasted my time."

They also had a smaller sales desk with a longer lines than other car rental agencies.

Advantage Rent A Car does not seem to be a reasonable choice for rental cars in Salt Lake City, or anywhere else. Here are three observations about my experience. First, when I got to the desk at the airport, the customer service representative indicated that even though the website indicated that I would receive a Chrysler Town & Country van or similar (extended room for luggage, 6 cylinders), the only vehicle available in the class I reserved was a base model Dodge Caravan (no luggage room, 4 cylinders). I was told I could get a Hyundai Entourage (extended room for luggage, 6 cylinders) for $200 more. Classic bait and switch, but with a deceitful twist.

Second, while the other rental car companies have vehicles on-site at the Salt Lake City airport, I had to wait for an Advantage bus which took me on a long ride to their off-airport location. Third, the vehicle I rented had a cracked windshield, high mileage, and an unsettling engine noise.

I rent vehicles often for business and pleasure travel. My experience with Advantage Rent A Car qualifies as the wost ever. I hope that my review might help others avoid the mistake I made.

We just rented a car at Denver airport. The car had not been washed and as we got above 45 we began to hear a horrible grinding noise in the wheels. My husband said it sounded like the wheel bearings were going out. As we were in a hurry to make an event, we didn't go back and demand another car. After getting on the freeway, my husband noticed a distinct pull to the right when you relaxed pressure on the steering wheel. We were scared to death the whole weekend that we would end up wrecking or stranded with this car. Never again will I rent from Advantage.

The worst Car rental Company by far.I had a reservation for a full size Car at the Montreal airport but was given a Toyota Corolla with cranck windows and no A/C, but charged for a full size car.Their insurance policy is another scam but it does not stop there. Please read the complaint I made to Expedia (who I made the reservation thru)about Advantage Rent A Car.P.S Expedia came back to me and told me Advantage told them they would get in touch with me about this matter.Guess what -it never happend.
Dear Madame, Sir
The following complaint will be taken to the better business office and was already reported to my visa card provider who has suspended my visa card until this matter is solved and they are shore that no further fraud will be committed by the rental agency that you provided me with and I made a booking with thru you. The car rental agency in question is ADVANTAGE Rent-a-Car.
Here are my complaints.
1. After asking several times what the total charge would be of the 2 day car rental I was told $15.00 a day plus $24.95 insurance a day, plus tax. It ended up being $165.67
2. I was told to sign the (and initial in some places where there is even no designated place for initials) the rental contract before any values where put on in it. The values where only put in at the return of the vehicle and that was the 2nd time the same rental contract went though the same printer with my signature from 2 days before.
3. Upon rental of the car my visa card was run thru their system and charged. But I was also made to sign an open hard copy of my visa card which was never given back to me or destroyed and that is the reason why visa has suspended the account. Also my card was run thru their system again at the return of the car.
4. After taking and only after I had signed for the LDW insurance for $24.95 a day I was told that I better not make any scratches on the car since I am still liable to pay the first $1500.00 worth of damages (With the other car rental companies there is no liability when I take this insurance). On top of that I was made BUT not told that I will be paying another insurance of $8.95 a day.
5. The full size car I reserved and payed for ended up being a Toyota Corola, which is a compact car at all the other reputable car rental companies.
I am very disappointed that Expedia is affiliated with such a fraudulent car rental agency.
This was not the first car reservation I made through Expedia and thought I was in good hands with you and could trust any of the companies that you are advertising and dealing with since that was the experience I made with you until now.
I hope you will take action in this matter and keep me updated about this complaint.
Thank you in advance

Never had a problem renting a car until this company came along! It is a pity that car rental sites are not reviewed more like hotels etc.

Advantage Rent-A-Car 3

There is a real lack of understanding about car rentals in many of these negative reviews.
Advantage has lower prices. They do this by cutting some frills...like TV advertising. When people call in to reserve a car, they pay no money. When they arrive, they demand the car they reserved. Advantage cannot guarantee a specific car. Customers who do not show up for their reservations aren't billed..and none of those customers are mentioned in the reviews. They are flaky liars.
As for additional coverage... if a car gets hit by a drunk, the "I have insurance...I don't need any extras!" crowd begins to cry. Their "insurance" won't cover the three weeks the car is in the shop and can't be rented out. Or, the drunk opens his door, hitting the brand new Sebring and the great insurance company wants $500 for the deductible.
Advantage is far from perfect. But if you knew the theft records of locals, the jerks who drive to Mexico to ship back their relatives, the rude-ass customers that demand a ride to the hotel and don't tip the drivers a dime, or make a stink at the counter like they are the only renters who matter, you'd have a much better understanding of why additional coverages and highway helper, and sometimes grumpy service is offered.
Customers avoid the extras.... then write the bad reviews when they get in an accident. They also drive like maniacs, 110 MPH. (there is a GPS in most cars, recording speeds) and
They drive in dust bowls and smoke their stinking cigarettes, using the cars as ashtrays.
Just a little fairness is all that is asked for here.

I rented a 07 Magnum from Advantage at Santa Ana that broke down on me on the highway I15 from Vegas near Barstow and I called Emergency assistance and they said they neither had a location nor a Tow company they work with in the area and had to get a car out from Vegas which will take atleast 4 hrs. I offered to foot the bill to get a local Tow company tow the car and me to Vegas as I needed to fly back home asap. They agreed and said they would reimburse the fee in that case. I spent $700 for the towing and now having a hard time getting my money back let alone being able to speak to the "only" person that can take care of this. Everytime I call he's in a meeting or a different location and he doesnt seem to want to call me back either. PLEASE STAY AWAY From Advantage. Guess I may need legal help on this one.

I rented a car at Denver International Airport a few days before the blizzard, I was to return the day the snowstorm hit but the airport closed and it was impossible to return the car. The car was due in the late afternon, so around lunchtime when I heard the airport had closed I called Advantage and was told not to worry I wouldnt be charged since Pena Blvd was closed and I couldnt physically return the car. However, when it was possible to travel and I returned the car, they said I was lying and no one ever said such a thing. If I could have returned the car I would have, but it was not possible as they had declared at State of Emergency in Denver, the the National Guard was actively rescuing people stranded. Advantage charges me $160.00 for two extra days. They are dishonest and unethical.

Advantage Rent-A-Car 1

My husband rented a car from Advantage at the Denver airport in September when we travelled there for several days. He waited a half hour for the Advantage bus from the terminal and another hour or so in line for a car. By the time he reached the front of the line at the Advantage store, there were no Standard SUVs (that we had reserved) available anymore. The cranky employee told my husband that she could give him another SUV but when he signed the papers, he found out that instead of being charged $197, we were being charged almost double for the car. Seeing the long line of people waiting and after an exhausting ordeal waiting to get to a car, my tired spouse did not object. After another wait, a car that did not look like it had been cleaned inside (there were pieces of tissue and wrappers on the floor and in the various compartments) pulled up for us.

Unlike Advantage, most rental companies that we (and our family) have dealt with have usually offered an upgrade for no extra cost when a particular vehicle class has not been available. I am disappointed in the business practices of a large company such as Advantage.

It seems that Advantage is taking advantage of its customers. We (as well as our friends and family) will also never rent from Advantage again.

cowboys, steer well clear. Orbitz quoted $117 US total 'including all taxes and fees' and 'unlimited mileage'. Actual total: $358C after a raft of non-optional fees and taxes. I was totally gipped, dont let yourself get the same treatment.

This company has neither the product or the service to stay in business. I reserved a SUV on their web site for their LAX location. When I arrived I was treated to a two hour wait. This is due to the fact that they never have more than two people working the 6-8 counters they have. I was first told, that I didn't have a reservation. So I showed my printed reservation with reservation number. Then I was told that I made this reservation on someone else's web site, and therefore it didn't count. I pointed out that their URL/domain name was on the bottom of the printout and I DID NOT use another web site, though even if I did? Finally, I was told they didn't have any cars left. If this all of this dodging wasn't enough, the customer dis-service lady addeded, it was my fault for not calling to make sure my car was here. Obviously, reservation means something different on planet advantage rent a car. Incredibly rude, incredibly shifty, willing to say anything to shirk their responsibilty. You do not wan to have anything to do with this company.

This was one of the worst experiences on any vacation I was ever on. We reserved the car for Los Angeles Lax for August 13, 2005. We had a coupon for a free upgrade so we reserved a compact. When we got our luggage we went to catch the shuttle bus to take as to Advantage, but 3 or 4 of them passed us by because they were filled. Finally about an hour later we got to Advantage. There was a huge line that went out the door. We were in line for another hour and when we finally got waited on they told us they were out of cars for the upgrade, but had a Dodge Neon we could rent. We had no choice, and the car was horrible in the California hills-- vibrated terribly. When we got the contract, we noticed it was about $30 higher than when we reserved the car, and we got some bull story why. When we got home, we found out they charged us $30 for roadside service. They never discussed that charge when we rented. We have AAA so didn't need it. DON'T USE THIS RENTAL COMPANY

This company SUCKS!!! There managment team is less than professional. I talked to the District Manager Marcy and complained that the Impala I got had bad tires and was a hazard. She said at this time this is all they had to rent. I took the car reluctantly and I woke the next day with a flat tire. I called their roadside assistance which took over half a day to repair. I called the location and they would have a car available @2PM. Me and my wife had flown to Colorado an extra day to enjoy the mountains and lost a whole day because of this company. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. They rent cars with 60K miles on them and claim that I am getting a free upgrade in a car with bad tires. I will never use them when I travel on business. If you want to enjoy your vacation I would suggest you stay far away from them. I think a one star rating is too high for this company.
