I Put this oil in one of my cars and now the engine is bad. Buy an oil you can trust like Amsoil or Valvoline.

I've used Super Tech 2000 synthetic for three years on all three of my vehicles; a '98 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 190K, a '01 PT Cruiser with 2.4l and a 5 speed, and a '06 PT Cruiser convertible with auto and the 2.4l. After working on cars as a shade tree mechanic for 35 years I have nothing but good things to say about ST. None of the cars burn it, it has made both Cruisers run quieter, and gas mileage has increased by 3 mpg in town (I keep a log). I started using synthetic by trying Mobil 1, and as far as I'm concerned the ST is a better oil, not only for the price, but the valves are markedly quieter with the ST. I've gone from 4 oil changes a year with dino juice to 2 a year with the STsyn. Typically I drive both Cruisers about 7k and the Plymouth around 4k a year. Last year I made the 850 mile run to Orlando 4 times in the convertible and averaged 26 mpg at between 75 and 80 mph! That was 4 mpg better than with dino juice. Didn't burn a drop either. To paraphrase JFK, I don't if it's horse piss it works!

I keep my cars for a long time (70 Olds 442 - 364,000+ miles; '72 Buick Lesabre, 205,000). My current vehicle is a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee that just reached 275,000 miles on the 4.0L six cylinder engine. I've had this car for about 5 years and I always use SuperTech synthetic 10W-30 oil. I change the oil and the Fram filter at about 9,000 mile intervals. The oil is dirty by this time, but I really just change it because I think that the filter gets a little clogged up if I run it to 10,000. My understanding is that there is no bad synthetic oil, and I refuse to spend $7 or $8 bucks a quart for Mobil 1. Texaco Havoline synthetic was a good deal, but it's not on the shelf at my local auto parts store anymore. I've had good luck with SuperTech so far in my Jeep and our '98 Chrysler minivan, and now that they make a 5W-20 version I will use it in it's replacement, a 2005 Chrysler T&C as well. At 275K miles the Jeep's engine makes no tapping/knocking sounds & starts on the first try every time, even in the extreme New England cold. As long as it's affordable, I will stick with SuperTech synthetic.Good luck!

Fact - motor oil is motor oil you should always go by the API rating on the oil. If it meets the API rating it has been tested and passed. According to the API rating your car or trucks manual will tell you the rating to use. Any oil synthetic or non synthetic is just fine and will not damage your vehicle if you use the right weight and proper API rated oil. You will never have engine failure do to motor oil if you change your oil filter and oil as stated by the car manufacturers recommendations, and if you use the correct API rating and weight of oil. Any brand will due if it meets the criteria. I use pennzoil, castrol, super tech, mobile 1, quaker state, exon, cheveron, kendall, havoline, autozone, slick 50 engine treatment, citgo, shell, wolfs head and have never had a engine fail. Every car I have ever owned has never burnt any oil and I have put over 200,000 miles on all them - more than 5 new cars. FACT use correct API, WEIGHT, and CHANGE PER FACTORY REQUIREMENTS AND YOU WILL NEVER NEED TO WORRY!!!!!!!

ive used synthetic oil since the early 1970's amzoil -1st -now i use wmt synthetic oil in a 1993 sedan deville with 212,000 and i drive 10,000 miles between oil changes and also have a 04 avalon with 108,000 miles on it and wife drive it -and i change wmt synthetic oil every 10,000 miles also-- i look more for discoloration of oil more than any thing for the oil change
jay173 05/15/2009
I prefure castrol or mobil with a good oil filter and 5000mile oil changes are more realistic the 3000 are so it covers every car but if you check owners manual it tells you your oil change service interval. This stuff is terrible its the same stuff as penzoil.

The only thing I have to say about Super Tech oil is the price. Comparing it to other oils of the same chemical make up, it's a little cheaper. Oil is oil, synthetic oil is synthetic oil. The molecules in these oils are basically the same, just a different size and shape. It's the additives that make the difference in any oil. Most of the general public doesn't understand what these additives are or where they need to be used. Without these additives, there wouldn't be a superior oil. Producers of oil lubricants have to meet standard guidelines for the type of lubricant they are producing. Most people that buy oil for automotive and other uses learn by trial and error or word of mouth what oil works best for them. Very few people read what additives are in the oil, and very few of those people know what the additives are or what they do. Oil doesn't really wear out. It either gets dirt mixed in with it or gets destroyed by heat. Temperatures have a great effect on oils. Cold can slow the ability to provide enough lubrication to moving parts and heat can scatter the oil, again not enough lubricant. Synthetic oils has a advantage over regular oils. Their molecules are a different shape and are not easily forced out of the microscopic grooves of the moving parts. Additives in these oils change the way oils behave. Without getting into high-tech lingo, there can be detergents, acid balancing chemicals, chemicals to let the oil flow more freely and other compounds to counter react the environment the oil is in.The automotive industry and other mechanical industries have recommended lubricants for their equipment for a reason. Cheaper lubricants may not have the additives to counter react a environmental condition their equipment produces. This doesn't say that there isn't a better lubricant. It just says the lubricant they recommended has the correct properties needed to keep their equipment in good running condition. In short, people want maximum lubrication for a longer period of time at the least amount of money. Super Tech is a good lubricant and meets or exceeds most manufactures recommendations. Common sense is my recommendation. Change oil and filter as recommended by the manufacture under normal conditions and more often if the conditions are exceeded.

I've been running 5w30 super tech in my 2000 nissan xterra with 120000 mostly city miles and 2004 nissan sentra with 150000 mostly highway miles and couldn't be happier. I change my oil every 5000 miles and also use the super tech oil filter and niether vehicle uses any oil between changes and both run great. They told me here in Tennessee that super tech oil is made by penzoil. I also use the other super tech products such as coolant, power steering fluid, ect. when needed.

The "Havoline oil ", people are talking about is Texaco Havoline oil (Chevron merged with Texaco about 8 years ago). For those who read Warren Dist. or Warren Oil co. is just a marketing co. Warren just puts labels on whatever oil you want in the bottle with whatever name you want on the bottle (Joe Bob's Slick Oil....etc) Wal-Mart only sells, don't produce.
ak3rr 02/24/2009
I was told by Tech Support at Royal Dutch Shell Corporation, (the makers of Quaker State, Pennzoil, and Rotella engine lubricants) that the Walmart brand of full synthetic oil (that is bottled by Warren Packaging Co. for Walmart), is supplied to Warren by Royal Dutch Shell, and is virtually "identical" to Pennzoil Platinum.I have used Pennzoil Platimum with excellent results. Shell has always made excellent lubricants, ask any truckers or heavy equipment operators who use Rotella, they consider it the "standard".Also... In my part of the country most of the other versions of Walmart regular engine oil is supplied to Warren by Exxon.

Wal-Mart does not stand behind their product when there is a severe failure
beachguyjim 01/29/2009
I have used Super Tech oil, along with their filters for years in numerous vehicles. Never had any problems at all. I was told by a Wal-Mart automotive employee, that the manufacturer of the oil depended on which part of the country you lived in.He said sometimes the oil is manufactured by Valvoline. I believe this is true because Valvoline looks different then other oils. Almost looks like vegetable oil because it is so light in color. Some of the Super Tech I have used has that same light color.
spacemark 01/23/2009
About 1/2 the price of Mobil One. Engine runs so smooth and quiet. I love it!
cartalktucson 01/07/2009
Does anyone know if Super Tech 20w-50 has the API seal on it? Was (still am) considering buying Castrol GTX 20w-50 at $16 bucks a gallon. However the Super Tech is only $10 bucks. If they are both basically the same quality... I would really like to save the money.

Well I see we have a know it all in rumorstopper. It may be different where you are but here it is Havoline oil. I talked to Havoline themselves. Not wal-mart. Since you know the different shapes and where the bottles are from you know what you can do with yours. "mommy". I think thats funny.
rumorstopper 09/16/2008
Average at best. The bottle pictured is actually from Warren Products. It is OK oil for 3-4000 mile oil changes. But it is entry level oil for the masses. WalMart contracts for house brands go to the cheapest bidder. Warren bottles this product for AutoZone's house label, Cam2, WalMart, and Meijer. WalMart house brands vary from coast to coast. The east coast bottle has a different shape, and is packaged by Mobil. The west coast bottle is from Shell. Sorry Bamascot, you are just wrong. ST has never been from Pennzoil. Typical WM manager. Misinformed, and feeding the public misinformation. Cartech9, go back to mommy for another bottle. It isn't Havoline either. Never has been.
mitsraider 09/06/2008
i find supertech oil as good or better than brand name oils. i have been a mechanic for many years and actualy studied oil additives and compounds in college. the st oil seems to stay cleaner longer(up to 3000 miles)then say mobil 1. the wifes corolla runs well with it and it is changed every 3 momths or about 3000 miles.i will start using it in my new raider when the oil change is due. still confused who makes the oil but whoever does, makes for good quality.
Rodeoguy 08/22/2008
Walmarts Super Tech oil is awesome. I have used ST 10w-30 from day 1 on a new 2000 Isuzu Rodeo 4x4. I currently have 60000 miles on this. Mostly city driving, light 4 wheeling in the snow and light trailer towing. I change my oil every 4 months (3 times a year) reguardless of milage. I decided to do 2 oil analysis via Blackstone Labs. I sent 1 oil sample during the winter months and 1 from the summer months. All my readings came back excellent, and it was recommended to extend my oil drain intervals.
Bamascot 05/24/2008
I worked as a Wal-Mart TLE Service Manager for years and as for the store I worked in, the super tech synthetic oil was made by Pennziol. I know this by the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) that we had on all our products.

For anyone who would like to read a long and well written article about oil go to this link http://www.boss302.com/oil.htm All you ever wanted to know about oil and then some.
deathwishbiker dude 04/11/2008
I use it my motorcycle which has solid valve lifters and the bike runs just as quiet as motorcycle oil. Using standard automotive oil causes huge amounts of valve train noise. The super tech is a superior oil compared to conventional.
ballin98 04/07/2008
used it on a 87 jeep cherokee 4.0l . used it since about 50k miles. had near 300k miles when i got rid of it ran great still never did a single thing to the motor other than regular maintenance. i live in phoenix area did alot of 4 wheeling with it. the only thing i did was always run a good oil filter. wix or k&n; changed my oil between 3-5k miles usually
billinaz 03/17/2008
I have been using Super Tech oil in all my vehicles for the last 8 years with no complaints. I use the Super Tech Synthetic in my 2005 KIA Sedona van since it was new, along with Super Tech oil filters. Change it every 5000 miles and it is allways full. 25000 miles so far. I will keep using it. The other oils are a little pricy and dont do any better.
dagocrazy 01/18/2008
I just did my 3000 mi oil change with ST 10-30 synthetic and i couldnt be happier.I have a 2001 Honda Prelude with 69000 miles on it and i thought i was about ready for a valve adjustment. After the oil change the noise was almost gone and the engine seemed MUCH smoother. My last oil change was at the Honda dealership with honda spec products too.

Having been an auto mechanic and machinist for 15 years(no longer in the bus.) I've seen some interesting things including a dodge dakota v-6 go 37,000 miles on one oil change. Any oil you use that meets the API certification recommended by the manufacturer of your vehicle will perform basically the same. The major difference among all oils is the additive package that is added to the base oil. Except where synthetic oil is concerned. Mobil 1 is the only synthetic oil I know of that is "truly sythetic". The other synthetic oils don't have as many synthetic molecules as Mobli 1. All conventional oils or "dino" oils will do just fine as long as you change your oil roughly every 3K or 3 months (whichever comes first). When an engine is started, the condensation inside the engine needs enough time at a high enough temperature to burn off, if not, it will, along with microscopic dirt particles that bypassed your air filter, and the additives in the oil - create sludge. Short driving trips (under 10 miles) and around town driving are the hardest on an engine oil. If you plan on towing or driving in very cold climates then synthetic would be the best oil to use. If you do normal driving and you don't plan on keeping your car for 20 years, then conventional oil is just fine. As far as what "weight or viscosity" to use, use what is recommended by the manufacturer unless you live in hot(over100) or cold (under 10)climates then you would want to go up or down in viscosity such as using 15-40 instead of 10-30 in hot climates, or using 5-20 instead of 10-30 in cold climates. I've seen a Chevy S-10 Blazer go an easy 250K miles using nothing but 20-50 oil and I had the priviledge of rebuilding that engine (though I don't know why after tearing it down). Todays engines have tighter tolerances(0.5-1K) and therefore need a thinner viscosity oil compared with older engines(1-3K tolerances) so it can flow to critical engine parts quickly, preventing wear. The bottom line: Change your oil every 3 mo or 3K miles whichever comes first if you use comventional oil. I would never push any synthetic over 5-7K myself, depending on driving conditions. I've seen 3 engines go bad that used nothing but synthetic, including Redline and Syntech, from day 1. One of them was my dads, so I know how it was driven. Always check your oil level (weekly). Don't keep changing between brands of oil (different additive packages in the oil don't always blend well, therfore helping create sludge. And while Super Tech may not prevent quite as much wear as Valvoline or Mobil 1 (because of the additive package) in certain laboratory tests, you will never keep your vehicle long enough to ever find out. AS FOR ME, I'M USING SUPER TECH BECAUSE IT WORKS AND I DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THE MARKETING USED TO HELP SELL THE TOP BRANDS.
Guppiegirl 11/18/2007
The conventional Super Tech is great, no complaints. I've used this brand in my car for a year and a half with 3,000 change intervals. I havent tried the synthetic yet but I'm planning to.
mcautodoc 11/09/2007
I have used the Super Tech 10-30 full synthetic engine oil since Walmart started selling it. I use it in all my gasoline-powered vehicles, especially my 1997 Geo Metro with the three-cylinder engine. I now have over 215,000 miles on this engine and have changed the oil & oil filter every 10,000 miles; yes, every TEN THOUSAND MILES!! You can't beat the oil as far as I'm concerned.
jsloan10 10/30/2007
Quaker state has nothing to do with tech 2K or supertech, our main oil suppliers are Penzoil and Warren distribution. Period. Go pay extra for that fancy bottle and colorful label, thats what we want. The profit is greater on the name brands due to the markup and I'll cash in come springtime when my profit sharing cheque is given to me. When it comes time to change my oil though, I know the real value is in the supertech and tech 2K products.
Gershqui 10/27/2007
I'm using ST Full Syn 5-30 for winter and 10-30 for summer and i have no problem at all...no leaks or anything like that. I changed it every 3K mi. This is a good quality oil for the money and i recommend it. I don't know who made it and i don't care co'z this oil works for my car and i'm using same brand of filters. I just hope if they have 5-20, i will used it for my Honda CRV. For me, OIL is OIL as long as they are approved/certified by AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE (API). If you don't have a PEACE OF MIND using this oil, then don't. Just my 2 cent. GERSHON

I am using the 15w-40 diesl oil in my gas powered boat (30 hours per year) engine and so far there has been no problem , likewise I have put 5w-30 into my tow vehicle (jeep 4.0 liter) with no problems so far. I use a nice quality oil filter and regular yearly chnages of oil

Evryone always asks who makes Walmarts Super Tech Oils well here's some info i found at another site. Exxon/Mobil has limited regional distribution supplied from the New Jersey lube plant to limited regions in the East. Super Tech from the Specialty Oil Division of Pennz/QS has limited distribution in some of the Gulf Coast states. And, of course, WPP supplies nationally from the Omaha/Council Bluffs location . http://msds.walmartstores.com/cache/26901_1.pdf http://msds.walmartstores.com/cache/35603_1.pdf http://msds.walmartstores.com/cache/6068_2.pdf After reading all these reviews and finding these MSDS's Ive decided to give it a try in my 2005 Silverado 5.3L V-8 The Price cant be beat for a full synthetic. It does have an API SM/GF-4 rating so id say its definitely a decent oil to run for 5000 to 7000 mi.
ItsMyOpinion 09/05/2007
Alright people here we go. Find wal marts MSDS (material saftey data sheet)on the net, everybody most show them to the public. Here's some of the makers of it that I remember: Warren Distribution, Specialty Oil Co., Exxon/Mobile - My wal mart here is supplied by Warren Distribution (NOT warren oil) How do I know this? I e-mailed Warren Dist. and ask them if the WPP on the bottom of the bottle was them and they said yes, it stands for Warren Performance Packing NOT products. They are also the owners of Mag 1 oil which I have never heard of but I did reconize some of their other products. Would I use their dino oil in a nice car or truck no matter who made it? NO. An old beater yes. I buy the lowest priced name brand dino oil on the shelf at wal mart evey time. Kind of like when I look for a new truck, it's always a name brand like yours. However I would say the Synthetic Tech 2000 is still better than those but wouldn't push it any farther than the others just for peace of mind. At 3-4K mile changes I don't need to spend the extra money on the syn oil.
oohyeah4 08/26/2007
I was told by a store manager at walmart that their super tech brand is actually made by " havoline" I have used it for years and and dont find it to be any better or worse than any other leading name brand, just cheaper in price...I change my oil regardless every 2000 miles...in my opinion it's cheap insurance for me....180k miles on my tahoe and going strong..does not burn one drop of oil or any leaks....Rob
Spike65 08/23/2007
Been using the 10W-30 ST oil for many years. As good as any standard motor oil made in the U.S. Have used the Synth. oil as well with good results.

Ive studied oil, bearings and steel for years and have a degree in welding and metal technology, worked in a bearing lab for 12 years, plus I am a licensed mechanic. Ive run super tech oil for at least 12 years. A 95 dodge 2500 with a 318 just got traded off with a 160,000, engine as tight as new, no smoke and 17 MPG in a full size van. Every vehicle Ive run super tech in has gotten over a 150,000 miles with NO problems other than a water pump here a belt there no oil related problems. I change my oil every 5000 miles after the first 5000, I always do the first change at 2500 and then start my 5000 intervals. The only place super tech has let me down is diesel engines, I have a 2000 beetle with a diesel engine that the manufacturer says change oil every 3000 miles (and I have), its a double yellow beetle that anything other than Mobil 1 or Mobil synthetic blend will leave a large soot spot above the exhaust pipes starting at 2500 miles. The Mobil products will go the full 3000 without any soot. But given the price and performance of super tech, I use it when ever I can. Jim

I'm not a mechanic, nor a DIYer. I'm a consumer like most of you. My research and info come from chat rooms, asking real garage mechanics, auto store managers, and other consumers like you. The chat rooms are filled with know-it-alls that really don't know anymore than the average consumer like me. There is not one valid argument, back with credible data, that identifies one synthetic oil brand in such a manner that using any other brand would be detrimental or damaging to your engine. The know-it-alls bash ST as being inferior, re-cycled, lesser quality, watered down, etc... Whether ST is made by QS, Warren, or Penzoil, so what...show me credible data that would convince me using ST would jeopardize my engines life. You can't. You can only express your opinion as to why you feel ST is junk and the brand you are using is the greatest liquid since spring water was invented. The same applies to ST oil filters. The know-it-alls are convinced the more $ you spend on oil/filters equates to higher quality and anything sold at Wal-Mart is junk. I'll do myself a favor and do more research on lubricants. I recommend you know-it-alls do yourselves a favor and take a course in Marketing strategies. Price does NOT equate to quality and the ST name on the box does not mean Wal-Mart made the product. In the meantime, I'll continue using ST oil/filters until someone can convince me I'm torturing my engine :-)

I have been building engines for 22 years SuperTech oil is a quality oil I run in my personal engines. Maintenance However is the key Factor in engines Life routine oil changes and driving conditions will determine engine life. Colder climates need 5w-30 due to faster lubricate upper engine. 10w-30 works well in mid to warm climates adding heavy oils always takes longer to flow to vital areas of the engine at start up and should never be used in colder climates. Additives are not needed for engines my opinion is they dont work and engine problems will not go away by using them regular maintenance is essential part of engine life.
lvgoodnycguy 06/26/2007
I have been using Wal-Mart Super Tech 5W30 in my 1998 Chevy Cavalier with 2.2 liter engine. It now has 237K on the block. The only thing I ever did in the way of a "rebuild" was a new timing chain, sprockets and tensioner. I have been using the WalMart oil for years. I replaced the timing chain at 229K. My mechanic said my engine looked like an engine with only 30K in it. Regardless of who makes ST 5W30, the stuff works as advertised. At 70 mph, the engine averages about 1/2 qt/3000 miles. To all those nay-sayers to ST oils, try it before you knock it. BTW, I have used the ST filters as well as Fram filters and have NEVER had a problem. Cars that have oil consumption problems have not had oil changes at the recommended service intervals or used correct weight oil i.e using 20W50 instead of 5W30 because of the "Ugh.. Geico caveman/Neanderthal ideology that thicker is better all the time.
Pantera1973 05/28/2007
I've used Mobil 1 Synthetic for many years but I switched over to Super Tech Full Synthetic some time back & I couldn't be happier! I swear my Jeeps 4.0 engine is quieter and even smoother than with the Mobil 1. Plus you can't beat the price. Jeep recommends changing the oil every 7,500 miles of normal service if you use conventional motor oil. If you change it ever 7,500 & use Super Tech synthetic I don't see how you could go wrong!
bushwick 05/08/2007
Hey i think supertech is the best oil for the money I drive a 95 toyota camry I bought in Dec of 95 the car had 20k on it and to this day with 289k I have not had the first promblem with supertech oil. When you buy all that other name brand oil you are just paying for the marketing.
Lubricants 04/30/2007
Super-Tech is manufactured by Warren Performance Packaging (Omaha, NE), ExxonMobil and Shell. Since Wal-Mart wants rock bottom pricing. Wal-Mart sources products from regional blend plants. This helps Wal-Mart reduce the amount of freight costs. There is no difference between Castrol, Mobil, Valvoline, Pennzoil or SuperTech. If the product is an API SM/GF-4 rated Motor Oil its the same. I have been in the Lubricants industry for 12 years.
chester43 03/26/2007
i like st oil...it is api certified and also GM 6094m certified, which are high standards...their synthetic and regular oil are great bargains...oil filters are excellent too...main thing for any oil is the the API certification....turbos need synthetic by the way for the extra heat...by the way, not all oils met the GM standards, you can see who didnt make the somewhere on the internet...use ST w/ confidence but dont abuse your engine and check the oil once in a while...7500 mile oil changes are fine for most cars according to consumer reports...even higher for synthetic, 10000 minimum...but change filter and a new quart if you go higher than that...api certified oil is a great product
1legeov 03/21/2007
My S-10 now has 297,000 miles running super tech oil and filter..I bought the truck with 88k and have no idea of its prior maintenance..I use the 10-30 with a 1 qt mix of 10-40..I do this to raise the viscosity just a little due to normal wear on the engine..I change it every 3500 miles, period!! It has worked flawlessly and I love the savings..Wish i knew who really makes it?? Oh, I burn about 1/4 qt every oil change. Doesnt marketing suck, some people pay the big bucks to buy crappy products (FRAM)... Keep it up Wally-World...
