A friend sent me this book as a gift back in Feb. I was on my way out of town and brought it with me. The trip lasted longer than the book, sadly. I finished it in two days(would have been less except i get car sick if i try to read while someone else is driving) At first I didnt like George and her determination to find her intended and ask him if he still wanted her. i thought that a bit desperate, but then again in her day and age who could blame her?? But once she was on board the ship and pretending to be someone she was not, i was riveted. JL does a great job putting you in the lady's shoes(boots? slippers? stockings?) i was embarrassed for George, laughed in spite of it. and even fell in love with the captain :D I freely admit I am drawn to personalities like his. But I can honestly say I would never want to be on the receiving end of his scorn and snide remarks! Anyway, after reading novel after novel and not feeling satisfied this book was like a cool breeze on a hot... Read more

Reading Gentle Rogue will WARM YOUR HEART AND MAKE YOU FEEL HAPPY INSIDE!!!This story was ROMANTIC PASSIONATE AND HILARIOUS. I laughed so hard somtimes I had tears in my eyes. This story the Love between James and Georgie/George simply makes the reader feel good! It is a page turner, so allow yourself time to read it or you won't get anything else done!! All of the characters in the book are very well developed and engaging. I Love the Malroy clan and now I love the Andersons and hope their are books written about them. I have read books 1 and 2 in the Malory series; Love Only Once and Tender Rebel and they were great storys and page turners to, but Gentle Rogue so far is my Favorite. I have just ordered books 4 thur 7 in the Malory series and can't wait to read them. In the world we live in today with very little Love this story will renew your hope and make you think Love is possible!!! Thank you Johanna Lindsey!!!

I listened to the audiobook and worked up an automatic cringe reflex anytime I heard the word, "he chuckled" because I knew "Ho, ho, ho" was going to follow right after. But then this sort of corniness is consistent with the book. Obviously many people have found it amusing when people spar and argue with each other without any character development or plot for an entire book. Maybe it's the sexual allusions (all the spicier because of the abundant hostility??). This book, the whole Mallory series, is a must miss as far as I'm concerned.

James knows all about her disguise and wants to keep the game going making the "lad" sleep in cabin and making Georgie confess to being nauseous while being close to him. I LOVED this book. This was actually the book that convinved me to read all the books in this series. I am not one who usually gets involved with series, but this book definetley left me wanting more. Her characters are so dynamic and entertaining. I love the premise behind the story of how James and George met and the story never leaves you wanting for humor and romance. The relationship between James and Tony is priceless and actually had me laughing out loud. As I said in my other reviews, I can only hope that Ms. Lindsey will continue her Malory magic with the next generation Thomas, Judith and Jacqueline, because I cannot get enough of this family! A fantastic read!
