Blows. (Caution! Gratuitous cheep shot ahead! Would have been nice if I could spell cheap.) Is to OSs what Swayze is to acting. The fact that you can still purchase this crap on Amazon.com should scare the shit out of everyone.

Windows 98 Second Edition was the best OS at the time. Definitely, it cannot be compared with the further developments. But the descent mark represents the system historic appreciation.

Used '98 for years until XP came out. Very reliable and stable OS.

Lasted me for years, used to replace IE with Geo-Shell or Neo-Shell, also theirs an application called Door's, which removes IE as the system default and replaces it with something else.

Win 98 was the half way mark fix for win 95 and finished with win 2000 which was just o.k. at best. Nice of Mr Gates to sell us all the fixes for his buggy systems. They called them upgrades but really didn't have new feature just patched the old system you paid for.

Windows 98 is the best Windows Operating System there ever was! It has an easy interface, looks good, but without being laggy and annoying like the overrated Windows XP. But, with the look of Windows Vista, they seem to be heading more and more in that direction...

Not being a computer tech junkie, my analysis of an operating system is limited to typical everyday use, namely word-processing, web surfing, and a few games. With this caveat and judging by the options at the time, Windows 98 seemed pretty stable, only having problems when I multitasked (say) five or more windows, and I preferred it to Windows 2000 (which isn't always backwards compatible). I either don't know or remember the tech differences between Win98 and Win98 SE, but the latter came with many of the extras that were only available with the Plus add-ons (e.g. desktop themes). In the end, Windows 98 was a small improvement over Windows 95 (which was a huge step-up from its predecessor). As another comment noted, Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows 98, which is a concern, but most everyone has upgraded to 2000 or XP by now.

I used it for years. It was quirky at times, and things could cause it to crash easily. But it was nice, and it adds some features that Windows 95 forgot. Everybody I know as well as me uses Windows XP now.

Be real, if you know computers or os, you surley know not to be using the 9x kernel anymore and go with the nt kernel. Ther's no disussion.

Used it before I got XP. 98 was pretty stable after the 2nd service pack was installed.

Good upgrade from win 95. Go with only Windows 98 SE. I use it on computers with less than 256MB of RAM and less than Pentium IIs @ less than 400Mhz. Anything with higher specs will run Win 2k smoothly with much more stability.

Anything before Windows 2000 stinks. I can't believe that people are still using it. MS no longer provides updates for it, so there are MASSIVE security holes in it. Any one using anything before Windows 2000 deserves all the viruses, trojans, DOS attacks, theft of personal information, etc. Don't be cheap and get at least Windows 2000.

It's just OK to me. I use it on my sons computer. He just plays games and surfs the net. But his computer freezes a lot and then we constantly have to reboot once the frozen screen comes back to life.

Stability issues on newer boxes because of the code age. Very friendly to home users. Crashes too easily when an app dies. Still a viable choice for home users.

Win98 SE should be a free upgrade to Win98, my laptop still has Win98 original version and I can't use hardly any network cards since it's not SE, and I'm not paying $100 for a 6 year old OS

I love windows98SE, yes I am still using it. I love the way I can easily use DOS and I can run really old software and the newest stuff with no problem. With a smoking processor and good memory, I refuse to upgrade. My husband has windows XP and believe me they haven't got the bugs out. I still use windows update for win98SE. Great operating system and I have used most.

Windows 98 is a good operating system. It seems to be easier to manipulate than the newer Windows. Also, it has great support for MS-DOS programs. You can run about any, if not any, MS-DOS program with this operating system. Furthermore, with Win98 SE, you can still run a lot of the newer games. With win98 SE, you get to play new games, as well as some old classics. I'm only giving Win98 4 stars because it has a higher tendency to crash than Win XP, and, sadly, it is becoming outdated.

Win 98SE has been been good to me IE 6.0 and 6.0 SP1 helped getting rid of most of the problems I had. Can't wait to get XP.

Ahhh! Good ol' Windows 98 SE... I remember a time when life was great, when games worked properly, when the blue screen appeared only 2,3 times per month, when the sky was blue and everything was great in the world..... Then I installed Windows ME >:( Now I haven't tried XP yet but I belive this is the best OS Microsoft ever made. maybe XP is indeed good, but it takes alot of memory. 98 SE is good, stable, and doesn't take much memory, you do the math.
