The Lions are the worst run team in the NFL, a college team could slaughter them!

I agree with Wiseguy. This is more than just the proverbial kicking the guy while he's down, it's disgracing something more personal. Sheesh! Any way,the Lions are an historic team, love 'em or hate 'em. Why a modern day professional sports team has fallen to such depths of despair is inexplicable. It reminds me of the Tampa Bay Buchaneers when they first started playing. Coach Mckay said "We can't block, we can't run, we can't tackle. We can't score. Other than that we're pretty good."   They are not that bad on paper. They are just that bad on grass. Yet I predict they will have a winning season next year, or at least break even.

Rod Marinelli won't be back with the Lions next year. I hate to see such a fine individual go through the situation the Lions are in. The trauma from this disaster will be with him the rest of his life, and to make things worse, we have an asshole reporter from the Detroit News named Rob Parker who decided to get personal with a question about the coaches daughter. I agree with Terry Bradshaw when he said: (about Parker) "You're a disgrace to your profession. You're a total idiot." There is one game left, win it for the Rod...

My Lions have very few redeeming qualities right now!!! Ernie Sims was a great draft choice out of Florida St. and has been as good as advertised (2nd in NFL in tackles this year). Calvin Johnson has unlimited potential. Roy Williams is an above average receiver. Jason Hanson is one of league's most consistent kickers (except in the Dallas game when he cost the Lions the game with a 35 yard miss). Mike Furrey and Shawn Mcdonald are adequate possession receivers and Damion Woody is a decent O-lineman.Now for the bad!!! The Lions can't run the ball because they cannot block well enough coupled with their injury prone back, Kevin Jones. Jon Kitna makes wayyy too many mistakes and lacks a deep ball touch and the O-line gave up nearly 60 sacks this year!!! The defense can't tackle or cover anyone and the special teams coverage is horrendous!!!If the Lions do not address the O-line and much of the defense in the offseason they will continue the way things have gone since the last time they h... Thank God Mike Martz is not in charge of an entire team anymore. No more going for 1 when you're down by 2. No more stupid timeouts, etc... Jon Kitna is not the answer at QB. McCown is an outstanding backup, but he'll never be the man. If he ever is a starter again he'll need to be a game manager: hand off the ball and when you do have to pass don't force the ball. Their defense is going to struggle in the Tampa 2, and they will give up a lot of big plays to begin with. Their safeties are not talented enough to be in this system. This team plays in a weak division, but the Bears will take a 2x4 upside the Lions' head. This team will not make the playoffs in the next 2 years.

From a pure football standpoint, the Lions are horrible. I give them 3 stars because they're usually good for a laugh. Greatest Lion Moment: 2002: The Lions win the coinflip in an overtime game, and Lions coach Marty Mornhinweg elects to defend..."We'll take the Wind!"

My 11-year old son is a big football fan. A couple of years ago, he had a project where he had to make a map based on mythical land of something that interested the student. My son made a map called "NFL Island." The island was shaped like a football and had landmarks like "McNabb Mountain," "Favre Desert," and "Redskins D.C." My favorite was a small body of water near "Bledsoe City," called "Stinky Lions Lake." It was amazing that my 9-year old boy could sense how bad the Lions were. This was the same Lions team where Coach Marty "Take 2 aspirins and call me in the" Mornhiweg won the toss for OT and KICKED OFF!!! [Bears marched down the field for an easy field go]. Even my son's 4th grade teacher thought that was hilarious. To this day, we call the Lions, "The Lake." Detroit is like the Arizona Cardinals. Every year, they are some pundits sleeper team and they do just that...fall asleep at the line of scrimmage. Here's a team that drafts 3 wide receivers in a row with their #1... Read more

Better than last year...I like their style, but they pretty much muffed this season again. They could be good if they tried harder; I think maybe they need to piece some more of the puzzle together.

Holy crap....if the Monday Night game against the Rams was an indicator, it's gonna be another long and dreary football season for us starving Lion fans ...(PS, thanks for the 'unhelpful'. Gee, let me guess...The Lions are going all the way this year, right? Dare to dream, 'Einstien'!

I have no idea why the national media loves the Lions and Tigers, but hates the Pistons and Red Wings. The Lions and Tigers suck; always will, always have. For some reason, the national media will write articles till the sun drops on the Lions and Tigers, but even when the Pistons or the Red Wings go deep in the playoffs...it's chirp, chirp, chirp...I think the Lions have a team management problem, and it's not necessarily the coach. They always get great wide receivers, had one great running back and can't seem to get a competent QB to save their life. Not great, not good, DECENT. I believe that if they drafted Ben Roethlisberger, they would still go 3-13. What a bunch of perennial losers.

If I were a Lions fan I'd be jamming tacks under my toenails right now. This has got to be the worst team of all time. They can't do anything right. Joey Harrington is a fruit fly with little talent, and they got the best receiver of the 2003 draft because how much the suck. I feel sorry for Charles Rogers starting his NFL career as the only player worth a damn on this entire team. If were him I would quit and join a monastery. Steve Mariucci must have been on crack when he accepted the coaching job here. This is really a black mark on his resume after some success in San Francisco. What an embarrassment this team is. They wouldn't even be favored against most college teams. I think a new method of torture for death row inmates is to let them wear Lion's jerseys and watch Lions games. They'd be begging for the chair.

This team needs a make-over in the worst way. They would have been better off trading Barry, taking the cap hit, but at least getting some draft picks for him or something. What they ended up with was nothing and everybody hoping and praying he comes back year after year. At least they fired Morniwheg this year. Their might be hope for them yet.

NFC North teams are boring, and the Lion has no teeth.

  • by

    Wed Apr 09 2003

The only reason they got the second star was because of Mariucci. They have a promising young quarterback with a quality backup runningback, a couple of receivers with speed but no major impact yet, and a defense with a few young stars. I predicted a .500 season last year, but I was way off. This year, I'm saying they win 6, including 1 against the Bears. COME BACK BARRY.

The lions are, have always been, and always be crappy. In spite of a few outstanding players (Barry Sanders) they manage to lose more games than almost anyone and adding an overrated cheerleader, I mean coach from SF won't make any difference. Next year I'll bet they can't even beat da' Bears.

Mired in mediocrity, this franchise has done nothing in my lifetime to show any interest in being above average. Their complete lack of direction was frustrating enough to drive Barry Sanders into retirement as he was on the verge of becoming the all time career rushing leader.

i love the fact that they have already won more games than last year when they had Barry Sanders. Barry, please do not come out of retirement, this goes to show that you were a great player, but not the best teammate.

Lions doing fairly well this year, in spite of the obviously great loss, of Mr. BS. The past few games have brought glimpses of the old Lions back into my head, but it certainly seems their better without Mr. RB, now ALL of them can play. If he comes back next year as I've heard, Bobby Ross ought to sit his butt on the bench for the remainder of his contract!
