Locavore

Locavore is simple and well-executed. It detects your location and shows you what fruits and veggies are in season, ordered by what will go out of season soonest. It pulls in a list of local grocers and farmers markets as well, helping you find good places to buy said fruits and vegetables.

There are a few things I'd change: First, the app needs a way to bookmark and view your favorites as a separate list. Also, although the pie chart display used for time remaining is elegant, it's actually not very helpful within the soon-to-expire range and generally lacks the context necessary to tell if something will no longer be in season starting in a week or a month. There's a lot of wasted space on the In Season screen that could be utilized more effectively, improving this point and maybe adding some lovely photos or icons to make the list easier to parse in general.

In any case I still highly recommend Locavore for people working to reduce their carbon footprint and/or to eat better tasting fruits and veggies. It's a solid release that I'm sure it will only get better over time.

This is a clever app that tells you what foods are in season, wherever in the U.S. you happen to be, and what will be in season soon. You can also find farmer's markets near your location.
