He is the stick that all modern heels are measured by - remember what he did to Snuka in Piper's Pit?

I fail to see how Rowdy Roddy Piper had less personality than the rather taciturn Andre "the Giant", or anyone else for that matter. Piper always seemed like he could do something that might land him in prison during a wrestling match. He would often run from fights that he would pick and as a youngster I thought this was pure chickens***. As an adult looking back on it, it was about the funniest damn thing anybody ever did in the WWF. The only guy I remember that had the stones to wear a kilt into the ring.

came to WCW when they needed a legend to wrestle Hogan. Nothing pleased me more when Piper won!!! (Starcade 96).

Pipers Pit is a classic that has spawned a host of less talented imitators.

A great wrestler, if you had a choise of which match he had was better, it would be either the dog collar match with the hammer or the strap match with the superfly.

Delightfuly obnoxious! A great antagonizer. I am surprised no one has mentioned what I consider to be one of his greatest moments. When he smashed Jimmy Super Fly Snuka in the head with a coconut in Piper's Pit! Brilliant! First he insulted him by pretending to have brought bananas, coconuts and pineapples to make Snuka feel more at home. Then whe Snuka didn't seem apprieciative enough, Piper acted insulted and out of nowhere BASHED Snuka in the head with the coconut, nearly knocking him cold! To add insult to injury, Piper whipped the half consious Snuka with a belt, smeared banana in his face, spit on him and said,.....you ain't nuthin but garbage! LOL! Thanks for the lasting memories Rody!

Roddy Piper is one of the all time greats. He may not have been a skilled technical wrestler but he was one of the most enigmatic, energetic, personalities ever in the business.

The Rowdy one has great ring presence and he can promote with the best of them but as a wrestler he was just ok and it the later part of his career he was plagued with injurys. I have seen a few of his movies and he is not a bad actor.

Rowdy Roddy Piper, without a doubt, was the greatest WWE heel ever. This man was as sadistic as they came, whether cracking a coconut into Jimmy Snuka's cranium during an infamous episode on Piper's Pit, or setting up a fixed-boxing match (which always backfired) between his henchman, Cowboy Bob Orton (Randy K. Orton's famous father), against Mr. T, or just having a long-standing feud against the Hulkster- Piper was as mean as they came. But when Piper became a good guy, he was loved. His win against 'Adorable' Adrian Adonis was one of the most emotional matches ever, and seeing Piper shave the androgynous Adonis's hair off was classic. It was only appropriate he became a champion preceding one of the greatest ever in Bret Hart. Simply, Piper was one of the best ever.

It's a sentimental five. He's not the greatest ever but what a heel. He was loved in certain areas despite being a heel almost in the same way Flair was loved in North Caroline while hated everywhere else. Piper's domain was Toronto. Even at the height of the Hogan era you should have heard Maple Leaf Gardens erupt when those bagpipes kicked in, Piper was the man on those nights. Also people forget that he was in one of the worst wrestling feuds in my memory, Piper versus Greg Valentine back in the NWA. I'm sure the wrinkles will remember like I do the climax of that feud, a savage, bloody dog collar match that saw Piper lose his hearing in one ear when it was almost torn off his head.

Hogan needed to a killer heel to feed off of in the 80s. Piper was that guy. He was the very definition of a bad guy. He cheated at every turn. He talked as if he was the toughest guy in the world, but if Orton or Orndorff had his back, he'd make them kick Hogan's ass. In what was a dismal boxing match with Mr. T at Wrestlemania 2, he ended the match by simply bodyslamming T in what was a hilarious moment. Who could ever forget Piper's Pit when he smashed a coconut over Jimmy Snuka's head? Classic stuff. He became so popular that he turned face. Piper didn't have as many noteworthy moments as a face, but he was entertaining nonetheless. His jump to WCW and his memorable interview with the heel Hogan at Halloween Havoc made him a major player again. The matches between the two in WCW weren't any good, but they were both great behind the mic to make the rekindled feud interesting.

He was the greatest heel to Hogan, for Hogan to become a great hero the WWF needed the most evil heel and that was Piper. And when he became a face,he was even better. One of the most entertaining wrestlers of all time.

I remember him from the old NWA days, and what a personality. He trully elevated wrestling, and took the entertainment aspect to a new level. He's put on a ton of weight, but never lost any of that Piper spunk.

He was a great one for pulling down his opponents' tights, which he did most spectacularly in his famous cage match with Ravishing Rick Rude. I'll always be thankful for that one.

Certainly the greatest wrestler of his era, Piper's primary contribution was the creation of the wrestling talk show genre. The principles of "Piper's Pit" have been adopted by many television news services, where a journalist deliberately baits their guest and ultimately delivers a coup de grace.Piper's ability to defeat an opponent mentally before even entering the ring contributed to much of his success while the reality was that he was at best an average athlete. In a dog eat dog world Piper knew when a relationship had outlived its usefulness and in retrospect his behaviour appeared resembled a preliminary form of economic rationalism in that he did not hesitate to down-size his friendhsips when they stood in the way of success or profit. In an age of steriod enhanced buffoons whose presence is less entertaining than the fireworks which proceed them Piper must be recognised as the quintessential professional athlete.

Good coomentator, excellent mind for in ring psychology, while he was more of a boxer than wrestler he was quick and good to watch when he was working with people who could keep up.

Roddy Piper is the greatest wrestler of all-time. Whether he's a good guy or a heel. Look at WCW. Their rating went up and stayed up when Piper showed up to WCW. Whether he was wrestling or the commissioner. Hogan couldn't even bring up the rating like Piper did.

Roddy Piper may not be the greatest technical wreslter, but he is undoubtedly the greatest wrestling personality of all time. He made every moment he was on the screen, in the ring, in front of the microphone, shine. And he made every other wrestler he shared the screen with shine too. WWF would not be what it is today without him paving the way for the current superstars.

Roddy is an icon. He didn't come in it for the prestige of championship belts or the money. He joined wrestling because he liked it and has remained loyal to the old school group of wrestlers which took care of one another. He's his own man, and is really tough too! I always enjoy watching his performances and on the mike no one can compete.! He's the perfect package, he backs up his mouth 120% in the ring. I just can't get enough of him!!!!!He's cute to boot!!!!

One of the most entertaining wrestling personalities of all time. Has had some great feuds with Ric Flair, Greg Valentine, Hulk Hogan, etc. I respect the fact that Piper hasn't forgotten where he came from, evidenced in his involvment with the Cauliflower Alley Club, and donating funds to a new hospice for wrestlers.

Rowdy Roddy Piper is one of the few true icons of professional wrestling. I loved watching him on the Piper's Pit and am currently enjoying his new book "In the Pit with Piper." Like his legenndary interviews, his book showcases his wit and humor. Hot Rod is the man!!!

Piper was the man who got me to love this sport and I've been involved with it ever since. His heel run in the WWF during the '80s is something to behold. He IS the original loose cannon and one of wrestling's most enduring personalities.

Hot Rod wasn't that big and he didn't have the best moves, but he had tons of personality. He seems smarter than the average wrestler and is a much better actor. I think Rowdy Roddy Piper would have been a big success in any career he wanted, lucky for us, he chose wrestling.

Rowdy Roddy was a great showman and brought great humor to the WWF. Even when he was a bad guy, you couldn't help but enjoy his antics. It's good to see that he is back rasslin'. His Piper's Pit is legendary. I'm kind of surprised that the WB or UPN or FOX hasn't picked it up as a late night talk show.
