On October 18, 1968 at Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Beamon set a world record for the long jump with a jump of 8.90 m (29 ft. 2½ in.). Set the record so far out it took decades to catch up.

One jump, that's it. 29 feet, 2 1/2 inches. I couldn't do that off a springboard. But, I can't give him 5 stars. It was one jump (8.90 meters) for just a few seconds, and he never took another jump in the Olympics.

Sure, he broke the long jump record in the high altitude in Mexico City, but no one came close to it for over 25 years.
