3Com Palm III

I purchased my Palm IIIe in April-2000 and have not regretted it for a moment. This is the most useful electronic item I have every owned. I used to carry around a huge day-timer filled with notes, lists, addresses, business cards, calculator, receipts, etc. Now I carry my 7 oz Palm and I have all the information I need at my fingertips. The calendar allows you to reschedule appointments every day, week, month, year, etc. I have entered all the birthdays of my friends and family to repeat each year, so I have no excuse for forgetting! The amount of software available to download for free is incredible. You can find games, professional tools, utilities, even a spreadsheet and word processor translator. I paid $250 for my Palm and it was worth every penny.

I could play about a half hour with a colour display Palm III device. Somehow I found this particualar device very insensitive to the stylus. I had to apply a quite large force in comparison to other touch screen devices. After about 20min I felt sort of cramps and pain in my right hand. Another point I was negatively impressed was the error rate of the Graffitti HWR. Okay, I tried Graffitti back in 1997 on my first Newton device (remeber, the first version of Graffitti was developed to improve the HWR accuracy of the Newton devices prior to NewtonOS 2.0) and could barely remember all the special strokes (e.g. K, T and some others). However, the few which are logically created were NOT always accurately recognized! I reached about 90% recognition rate and the input rate was quite slow. Imagine, you write one stroke, lift the pen and wait until its recognized. On the Newton one can write in cursive style and correct recon errors by simply overwriting the wrong letters within the word and not within the very small Graffitti area. Other things I don't like: the small screen (160x160) and its large pixels, not memory card slots, on battery change data loss is possible, weak stylus But there is a reason to get a Pilot/Visor: supported platform, many licencees

These remarks I am reading are not very helpful. Too shallow. They sound like they were written by people selling the product. I have a lot of questions about my III but none of these remarks touched on any of them. Depressing.

The Palm III is the neatest little thing ever invented. The Palm III keeps me organized. The Palm III can hold up to 8mg, enough to hold thousands of addresses, memos, and applications. I recommend the Palm to anyone having trouble organizing themselves.

The Palm Pilot series is cool but the fact that they don't come with a case makes it an easy target for being stolen, or smashed.

The Palm III series is a very versatile machine. They last months on a single set of AAA batteries and have a plethora of software. They also have a useable development system allowing for the creation of new programming.

This hand held is a great organizer and data-holder for everything from shopping lists to all your phone numbers and email addresses. It also has a handy built in finance feature.

I personaly own the Palm III and I would be lost without it. I spent a lot of time looking between all the various brands. I chose Palm for the reputation and ease of use. The Palm III has 8mb of RAM making it very versitile. It does all the same things as its brother the Palm V for a smaller shock to the pocket book. A new Palm runs about $249.95. The reason the III only gets a 4 rather than a 5 is the fact that you have to replace the 2 AAA batteries every 2 months.

Palm III is one of the best. I give it a 5 because it is not too heavy, unlike the Palm V, and it is cheaper. This is an affordable Palm for students.

This is a decent pilot for keeping track of appointments. It doesn't have as many features as other pilots, but the price and value makes it worth it.

Very easy to use. Works well as a personnel organizer and limiting the amount of paper and junk one needs to carry around. Never has any technical problems. Long with software that allows synchronization with desktop PC and an internet port to "beam" data to other Palm users.

This was my first palm, at the beginning it was okay, working perfectly. The only problems I started to have was that it was getting in the way of everything. The problem, it was very bulky. Yet, over all, the platform of the Palm III was very simple to use.

Very nice Palm OS compared to Windows CE and a lot less expensive. No way to play MP3s, and not as inexpensive as the Handspring Visor.

It's great for beginners. It comes with 2 MB of memory and its uses are endless. You can always upgrade to more memory and there's an option of a wireless modem to access the internet.

Palm Pilots have been the dominant hand held PCS in the industry to this day. 3Com needs to be given credit for that. But since the technology changes so much, 2mb of memory is really too little for most applications.

The original Palm Pilot, as revolutionary as it is, still takes longer to enter information on the go than writing things down by hand.

My ex-girlfriend has this computer and says she can't live without it. There are games on it and it is very easy to use.

This product is nice because there are so many 3rd party accessories such as a GPS system and modems.

Good machine. Not enough memory and too expensive.

I was really happy with my Palm IIIX. It did everything it said it would, including downloading my e-mail. The only thing keeping it from being rated a 5 was the fact that the Palm V does all the same things much better.

I have the IIIXE and love it to pieces. Only problem is that it is expensive and some software problems.

Now that the Palm V and VII's are out, the Palm III is the best bang for your buck. The proprietary Palm OS is simple to use, yet powerful enough for the techno geek. Two thumbs up says Siskel & Ebert.

I love my IIIXE. As a day planner or address book, it is indispensable. The thousands of add on software titles make it thoroughly useful.

With all of the advances made in handheld computers since the launch of the Palm III, there is really no reason to buy one now. That being said, I have been completely pleased with my III. The interface is very intuitive, and you are able to figure out virtually all of the features. It is an amazingly addictive way to track contact information, schedule appointments, and wake yourself up when you are traveling. The scroll buttons are very helpful, and it shouldn't take you more than a couple of days to learn the Palm script - though if you are intimidated by the idea of learning a new "language", you can always use the "typewriter" functionality to enter your data. A sleek little product that I have yet to hear a bad review of yet - the only reason it doesn't get a "5" is because it lacks some of the wireless functionality available in later versions and in the Handspring Visor.

Very handy with good organization. Not very good screen quality.

You can add to the memory. It has a bigger hard drive, and it can adapt to different frequencies.

It's a great way to get organized. It's easy to use and small. It's light and is almost better than a laptop.

It's so great and handy with many useful applications. But, mine broke after 6 months, and the accounting program doesn't have enough options for expenses. Also, the resolution is sometimes hard to read.

This is a cool little gadget, but it still needs some work. I think it is a little difficult to use, plus it's not too practicle for someone who can just easily access a regular PC.

This unit is a little thick. The screen is good and the buttons at the bottom are good. The programs are great and easy to use. There needs to be a better program for security.

Easy to use. Functions like a PC. Point click action. Great for organizing. The only downside is the outrageous price. Very friendly. PC to hand-held synchronization is a plus.

I think this is a great product. It comes in many different varieties such as the III, IIIe, and IIIx series. This makes it good for the people who want a palm to surf their needs.

This venerable unit is still a very good performer, especially the IIIX model. Though it isn't as sleek as the V model, it still offers all the benefits of the Palm OS, including flash RAM. Plus, the price makes it an excellent value.

The Palm III does everything a hand held can do when extensions are used. It is expensive. I wished it came in other styles.

I think its a 16 MB or 8 MB of ram. It's not worth it for the money. Not even for its color. Basically, it's just bad.

You can connect to your computer to save information. You are able to transfer data between Palm Pilots. It is great for storing phone numbers, addresses, daily plans, etc. You are also ablet o download programs from computers.

This is a very helpful utility. My uncle bought one for me for Christmas.

The Palm III is a very useful and convenient thing to have. Although it would be nice to have it in color.

The Palm III holds a lot of information in a small amount of space. I also have their capability to check my email. The one thing I don't like is that I can't take a lot of notes conveniently.

Easy to use. Comprehensive software available. What more could you want?

I currently own a Palm Pro (an older Palm III) and it is the BEST THING to keep me organized. Ten times better than any paper organizer.

Palm III is the worst widely-used PDA on the market!

This is an excellent, very easy to use and universally embraced organizer. I have the palm V and think it to is great, but the palm iii is far cheaper and as much or more of the organizer. I think the palm is the only way to go with an organizer and the palm iii is the best deal!

Great operating system, easy to use, reasonably priced. Only reason it doesn't get ***** is because when the Palm V came out, it made the III look ugly.
