I have a crappy Dell Dimension CPU and it stinks. My moms thinks im getting scammed at the computer shop where I bought this crapass machine, but after searching on the web, i think Dell is just crappy. Check out this link http://kennethhunt.com/archives/000886.html Here are a few problems I've had with this computer: 1.My "combo" cdburner/dvd reader cant burn dvds. The good peeps at Dell decided to name it "combo drive" to confuse people like me who dont know much bout' computers. Not only it cant burn dvds, this stupid piece of crap struggles to burn cds!! How the f#*k can a company make a cd burner that cant burn cds?? And it wasn't a media issue, the cds I tried to burn were the recommended brand of cds. 2.Freezing and slowdown. I just got my comp. repaired this weekend and it still suffers through lag and lost internet connections. 3. As mentioned in the article in the link, Dell customer service is terrible. Basically they dont give a f#*k bout' your problems and tha... Read more

I purchased a Dell XPS machine nearly 3 years ago and customised it to be a top of the line gaming rig. I had a 9800XT, 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 HT, 1 Gig of Ram, a lot of HD space etc. Little was I aware until looking inside my computer after HL2, Far Cry, and Doom 3 started experiencing aliasing that Dell's have some of the most horrendous cooling systems on the planet. There was no selection on the website to purchase more fans, heatsinks, or water cooling systems. My computer would constantly over heat until the point my games were unplayable. If you want a great gaming computer make your own (it's not that hard) or purchase one from ibuypower.com.

Dell has good warranties on their computers, you get a 4 year warranty and they have 24/7 technical support for dell customers only. The only thing that i had to replace on my computer so far was the mouse, it fell on my cement floor and broke, It had fallen before but this was the first time it had broken. I called customer service and they had one delivered in 24 hours time through Fed Ex. They also have alot of people working through tech support and it don't take you long to get through to them. I have only had 1 other problem with the computer besides the mouse being broke, and that was that I accidentally deleted something impt off of my computer and I could not fix it so tech support sent somebody out to my house the next day to fix it....Good customer service, however alot of the reps do have trouble understanding english and it is quiet time consuming if you have a problem with your computer. I dont have many problems with my computer so It's not a big deal for me. I do wish ... Read more

Last year, for some strange reason, I hated Dells. I posted here, saying they were ugly, unreliable, and bad PCs. I typed that when I was going through a stupid phase. I've changed my rating and comments nearly a year after the initial post to say that Dells are actually very good. My dad has one since 2002, and although he's had a few small weird things go wrong, it's basically been a solid, reliable PC for over 3 years now. I still do agree that the chassis construction is very poor. The older Dells had better construction, but today, Dell's chassis is so poorly built it's not even funny. It would be good if Dell made their chassis the way they used to. Other than that, I give Dell 4/5 stars.

It's not how pretty the computer is that matters. It is what is on the inside. I have had 2 Dell's they are reliable machines, you can put together a gaming machine if you know what you're doing and you are willing to spend the bucks. If you just take one of their advertized specials you aren't going to get a super machine.

I got my XPS with scholarship money and got a free printer. I absolutely love it. Haven't had any other problems. The only downside is that you have to order ink online.

I've had numerous problems with my Dell, requiring 3 trips to their facilities for repair. I waited as long as 3 weeks for one repair to come back to me. The last straw was when I was having trouble booting up into Windows. The troubleshooter first had me revert to a previous version of my registry. Next he walked me through a cryptic set of DOS commands that afterwards I found out removed my partition. It would have been nice to have been able to back up my data beforehand. I won't be buying another Dell any time soon.

If you can't build your own this is a goood substitute, however, if you could build your own, wouldn't you like to save around 1000$. In other words, you are paying someone alot of money to assemble something you can easily do yourself.

I love my Dell, I don't know why I didn't do it long before now. I have had it for a year and no problems at all. I just plugged in my mismatched set of accessories and was off and running. It has been a year now and I am still VERY happy.

I have had three Dell computers in 6 years. They work great for 6-12 months and then problems start creeping up. One of the three had a bad mother board from the get-go and though I tried and tried to get Dell to do something about it, I was forced to let it die and order a new computer. Why three? Becuase that's what my company insists on purchasing. On the up side - their Monitors never seem to wear out!

Had this XPS450 since 12/99 and continue to be amazed by it's performance over the years. Practically no trouble. When it "slowed down" I added memory (from Dell), a simple process and worth every cent. Pretty much satisfied with the whole package and it handles all the software I've added to it without missing a beat. Dell service has always been there when needed. Just one minor glitch this spring ('03) when Acrobat failed me, Dell couldn't help, solved it myself. For the record, hardware I've added is an Epson Scanner and TDK CD/RW, both from Dell. Absolutely trouble free installations. Just bought a second Dell 12/02 for daughter...another super machine. Advice for XPS owners from experienced Dell techs, keep Windows 98 as long as possible.

It is now April. In November I ordered a Dell computer - The one that arrived had the Wrong CPU!, wrong Graphics Card!!, and Wrong Speakers!!! - I mean what else is there? It was the WRONG Machine!!! Next Dell billed me for the wrong amount, "corrected" for the wrong amount (twice) and 6 MONTHS LATER it is still WRONG. I have not received the correct bill yet. What a Nightmare! Trying to get a competent person to speak to at Dell has proven to be even harder than getting the computer I wanted!! SAVE YOURSELF – RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM DELL

Dell is the WORST company I have ever dealt with. Their components have been low quality, often needing replacing. The technical support has been even weaker. IF you should need to escalate an issue BEWARE! Immediately they threaten to go to their legal department. With Dell you need to have a lawyer on retainer. They threaten and are abusive to customers. STAY AWAY FROM DELL!

We purchased our Dell computer in December of 1999. As a first time computer buyer and USER I love my dell computer! It was easy to figure out how to use. Dell support was very prompt and helpful with their oneline support. I've reccomended Dell to all my family and friends when they go to purchase a new computer. I have to admit that the price could be a little steep, but it is well worth the price to get such a top quality computer. I have a brother in law that purchased a Compaq computer and he says that was the worst mistake he ever made. Now he's looking into the purchase of a Dell computer too.

A very good, affordable computer. One of the best computers on the market. A reliable work horse that you can use at work for massive spread sheets and can also process the latest, high demanding games at a blinding speed with near perfect resolution, with almost no modifications to the stock model.

If you can get your hands on this monster, you'll be set for years to come. Dell's current package clocks as the fastest PC chip on the market. Plus, Dell's fine workmanship, expandability, and 24 hour technical service are a huge plus for those not currently majoring in computer science. The only downfall is the hefty price that comes with add ons such as extra hard drive space, memory, CD-R, etc. Be wary of such options as they usually can be found elsewhere cheaper.

Overall reliable and fast, but if problems occur it is a very hard system to troubleshoot. Dell doesn't do a good job of using standard drivers, which makes it tough to figure out where a problem is if one occurs.
