An excellent site for a travel purposes, providing information on multiple travel destinations. Its forum ThornTree is one of the best forums to get advice and personal opinion on different travel opportunities for budget and adventure travellers, or to find a companion for the future trips.

This is my first stop whenever I want to find something out about a foreign destination. The books are very thorough and informative and packed with useful travel information. The website goes one step further by allowing you to go online and get a glimpse of what's in the books without having to leave the comfort of your livingroom and at no cost. You can search through hundreds of countries, cities and regions gathering all sorts of useful information before you even commit a dime towards a purchase. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather do that than sit on the floor of the Barnes and Noble sorting through book after book trying to find some general or even a specific interest. That's pretty tough to beat.

I've always used Lonely Planet guide books when travelling and found them to be very helpful. Although, the website is a bit plain it is still a great jumping off point in your research and a very simple way to get a quick sense of what you're looking for.

A nice site. The world map makes it simple and intuitive to use, and they seem to do a good job on updating State Department advisories on where not to travel. Make sure to check out the pictures from around the world - I pulled off a nice picture of Machu Pichu for my desktop.

When I searched for Chile I got lots of interesting information on everything from health & litterature to sport activities & what the different cities has to offer! Here is a tips they gave me: "In restaurants, it is customary to tip about 10 % of the bill. In general, waiters & waitresses are poorly paid, so if you can afford to eat out, you can afford to tip". I recommend it strongly! :O)
