I was a customer of Monster.com from the business side. What once was a cutting edge company has grown too large for its own good. They are nice people, but completely incompetent when it comes to the regulations that companies need to comply with. They can't even provide reports in the way a company requests them to. If you are someone who is looking for a job through Monster, good luck! You will get lost in the quagmire of data that they can't even report on or look at themselves. Go to CareerBuilder instead!!!

Nothing but good things to say about Monster.com. I posted my resume on the site and was contacted immediately. I have an Interview coming up!!! They have enhanced the site so much. If I were you, I would check it out. You have the ability to set up a profile, a web page and so much more. WAY TO GO MONSTER!! Glad to see you have joined the web 2.0 world!

One last note, check out the career advice section, there are so many useful articles!!

Good luck on your job searching!

I have been pursuing a new career path about a year ago. Have posted for SEVERAL jobs on monster.com and have yet to receive contact from ANYBODY! As somebody who is very qualified for most of these jobs, I find it kind of insulting...what a waste of time.

There is a feature where you can check on the progress of your application. Out of probably 15 applies in the last year, only two (2) have even been viewed...the rest have remained in 'received' status. I mean honestly, do they just collect resumes and applications and NEVER even look at them? Why would companies waste their time posting jobs on monster.com if they don't even look at candidates?

Most people tell me that going to monster.com is a waste of time. I'd believe it, except I did get a great job about 10 years ago through monster.com. I would say it's gone 100% downhill since then. Wow.

Do not waste your time.

Ever since I started using Monster I get about 30 spam emails a day. I have gotten more junk calls about undisclosed company wanting to verify my application, oh yea and about 10 online colleges a week. All jobs I have applied for after contacting the company were filled. ( I do realize that is the companies responsiblity to update) My point is the only job I have gotten from Monster is unsubscribing from email list and telling junk callers I am not interested. Oh yea and telling online colleges to bite me... Sorry Monster 2 thumbs down, and one Middle finer up..

If I find a posting on monster.com, I immediately go to careerbuilder.com, or to the companys website to see if I can apply for the position on another job board or on the company website. Monster.com is extremely cumbersome ad difficult to use, compared to CareerBuilder. Formatting is lost, account information has to be input again and again...the list goes on and on. It is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!!

Monster can be characterized by a simple-to-navigate website interface and huge database of positions from all career paths. Its database has almost 50 million resumes of the job seekers. You can look for job by category, location, employer, or keyword and save your searches as active search agents that are browsing the ongoing positions listings and notifying you by e-mail, sent to your inbox.
However, this site is more than just a job search engine. It offers resume help and distribution, career advice, and networking capabilities. You get a free account with room for a resume, cover letters, and an online job application history to track your job search progress. You can also choose to use premium resume writing and publishing services for a small fee.
Among attractive extra features, we want to mention MonsterTrack, offering special guidance to college students at the most complicated initial steps of the internship or first employment place search; Monster Networking, helping to connect people in the same field for potential leads and recommendations; Monster Mobile, transferring the job search featured capabilities to the mobile phones, and Monster Blog, where candidates can chat and exchange their advices and experience in different job-related fields.
The only noticeable disadvantage of the site is extensive use of advertising, pop-ups, and special offers that might be distracting and might spoil the overall very positive impression of the site quality and effectiveness.

Monster's still a good site but it's not the giant it used to be. They were the pioneers in the industry but now they're struggling, and on their 3rd ceo in the past 9 months. I'm told it's in part due to discounting on their products, not enough focus on product development, and until recently lack of a good customer service function. Another issue was the security breach they had - over the summer their site was hacked into and users contact information was stolen - very scary for them. Monster will most likely rebound and continue be a major player but need to straighten up, CareerBuilder has lapped them and HotJobs is around the corner..

Monster.com - You may find some jobs on their site worth applying for, although I did not find my job through them and I don't value Monster as a company at all as you can see by rating for the following reasons:  (1) They will send you TONS of emails that don't have anything to do with the job you are looking for or even location you are in at the moment, and I mean AN|YTHING; (2) it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get rid of these emails - you have to LOG IN to their site - update your password (in my case) to one with number and letters and nothing including "prohibited" words, and then deactivate your profile and hope in 10 days or so, the emails will stop arriving; remember, YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD, AMONG THE 100 OTHER PASSWORDS YOU HAD TO THINK UP IN YOUR JOB SEARCH - JUST TO STOP GETTING AT LEAST AN EMAIL A DAY FROM MONSTER FOR JOBS THAT DON'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO ONES YOU MAY HAVE APPLIED FOR THROUGH THEIR SITE; (3) SO, instead of focusing on the important stuff like correcting critique #1, based on critique #2, they think they are a bank and people are sitting there attempting to break into peoples' profiles they use to apply for jobs instead of the ones they could actually use - like banking profiles - come on?; and (4) just make it easy for us to stop getting emails from you like some other sites/companies - e.g., click here to unsubscribe -- get a clue - we're trying to get a job - don't you think we have enough things to do?  good luck in you search and even if you have to use monster - WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE THE EMAIL LINK IF YOU CAN OPT OUT, I'M GUESSING YOU CAN'T.

I liked them when the first came out, there were real companies on there trying to find hard working employees. Now it is just full of "work at home" pyramid schemes, priamerica, and temp services that will call you until you change your number. I look in the local newspaper before even thinking about that site.

Although their user interface (especially on the employer side) leaves a lot to be desired, Monster.com is the best available site for both job seekers and employers. Why? Because it's all about scale. Just like an online dating service, the site that provides the numbers is going to be the best, as both employers and job seekers want options. The last I saw, Monster had well over 50% of the online job searches... Job hunting and recruiting are numbers games, and Monster can provide the numbers.

Poorly designed user interface, Monster constantly attemps to sell premium services and third-party products. Posting my resume on Monster has resulted in receiving many email from employment and other agencies trying to sell their services and emails from questionable firms. Monster.com is a complete waste of time. I recommend individuals identify employers they are interested in and pursue career opportunities directly through employer sites.

As far as being user-friendly, this is a great site, but the main issue I have (which is a big issue for all the employment sites that I have visited), they seem greatly bombarded with a TON of ads from employment agencies, not from the companies themselves. If they could have a search option to eliminate postings from temp agencies, that'd be great.

I have been registered with Monster.com since 1998 and have been on the net since 1995 and I can tell you that online job boards are not good resources for finding a job. You may read the advice columns and forums and otherwise stay updated on interviewing but don't expect to find a job from **any** online job board. It is not realistic particularly in the current downturned economy. In fact, the good paying jobs that are available go to the buddies of those existing employees at the company with the vacancy so get out from in front of the computer and go network among living beings with a pulse. Don't expect to find a job online because it ain't gonna happen!

Great concept at Monster.com. Inspiring, helpful and it makes it fun to be jobhunting, however the feeling of sending of your cv not knowing whether the employer actually has opened your application, and not getting a mail when the position has been filled, leaves you feeling a bit blind. Only way to get this working for you is to call companies after and check up whether application was received. Monster and the companies could do more for keeping applicants updated. Only experienced one company on there which actually followed up all the way through the process.

The Job listings at Monster.com are plentiful and well organized. However, I keep getting way to much junk mail sent my way that I attempted to opt out from. Overall it's a decent site for standard fair long term work but not even comparable to Elance for the IT/Development positions which are only contract based.

I have had nothing but good luck w/ Monster. I have been on the job seekers forum for over a year now and have met some spectacular people. I am also been on the employer side of it too. I have never had a problem w/ receiving a resume, although they do not tell you if you are. The price that an employer has to pay to have one password (can only be used by one person or you are double charged)anually is outrageous though. I can not tell you on here, but I will tell you that you could buy a brand new cheap car w/ it.

Monster.com is a well organized, thorough and cool looking site. It is a high quality career site with great style. Their humorous logo makes them memorable and user friendly. Their listings are vast. The only thing they could do better is specialize more instead of trying to have everything jobwise. Their prices to link to employer listings from an employer's web site are high.

There are too many employment agencies advertising jobs. This is a big negative for me. I'd like to filter them out easily.

I don't know about their website, but I rated this a one because of their commercial. First, it's got little kids in it! Why do you need children to sell your thing ~ that is so lame and overdone! & Second (and most importantly), that commercial LIES and gives the impression that if you visit the website, you will find a good job w/ a future, and it just isn't so!
