A classic cute kindergarten story. How often is it that you find stories about baby fruit bats (animals not widely considered to be cuddly and adorable?) I hold fond memories of it from kindergarten story time, and I think pepin909 stated things pretty well - unlike "see Spot Run", it's actually got some value.

Fabulous story! Teaches kids it's okay to be different and to like those who are. It uses a very misunderstood animal. And if it couldn't get any better, the illustrations are charming.

"Stellaluna" is a very nice picture book about a baby fruit bat (Stellaluna) who loses her mother and is raised by a bird. Stellaluna struggles to be like her nest-mates, but her differences make it difficult. I won't ruin the ending, but I will say that it is a happy one. The illustrations are absolutely mesmerizing, and the story moves along at a good pace. At the end of the book, there's a nice section containing facts about bats. I highly recommend this book for kids ages three to eight.
