Samsung BD-P2500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player 5

I got this Blu-ray player a few days ago and I'm very happy with it.

I didn't have any firmware update problems like others had, so Samsung must have fixed this.

The Netflix feature is awesome. And it's currently one of the few devices that can stream Netflix HD video. I have it plugged directly into my router and I have a pretty fast cable connection--10Mb down. I've watched several things already and I always get the highest quality.

My only minor complaint would be the Blu-ray load time. It does seem like it takes a little long. But, this is the only Blu-ray player I have experience with so this may be normal. And it's really not a big deal.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this product.

Samsung BD-P2500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player 4

Initially tried to connect through my Denon 3505 receiver via component cables that outputs the video to a 65" Mits RPTV. Only a 480p signal was passed through. Had to directly connect the P2500 to the TV for 1080i signal out. This may be only a problem for this configuration and not with HDMI out or HDMI switched through a receiver or component switching by another method.

Firmware automatically updated to latest when connected to internet.
Netflix enabled but haven't tried it yet.

Some mechanical clicks and clunks while loading disk but not audible with soundtrack playing.

Will update review if Samsung tech has help on the component switching.

Samsung BD-P2500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player 4

So far, this unit is working nicely for Netflix streaming. I don't have an HDTV yet, so I don't need bluray capability right now. However, I got this unit to replace my DVD player so I could avoid having another black box and another remote to deal with (as would have been the case if I got a Roku box). Also, when I get an HDTV, I'll be ready with the bluray capability.

I have a 5 meg cable internet connection, and I would say the streamed Netflix movies are DVD quality --- Very nice!!!

I had to upgrade the "firmware" on the BD-P2500 before it would play Netflix. It was simple to do, but I wasn't expecting to have to upgrade it right out of the box. My only criticism so far is that it takes a bit of time to boot up, and it flashes between two startup screens in the process. - it didn't do that before the firmware upgrade.

The remote works nicely, and in less than a minute, I had it set up to control my TV. So, I have one remote for DVD/Bluray, TV, and Netflix. That's what I wanted. Simple!!!

Overall, I'm thrilled so far, and would recommend this as a "premium" Netflix streaming device.

Samsung BD-P2500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player 5

This is my second Blu-Ray player (my other one is a PS3). I wanted something for the bedroom and since I already have a Roku player for the living room, streaming Netflix was a plus. Got the unit last night and immediately upgraded the firmware. I was very happy to see that the player downloaded the newest firmware released yesterday which enables HD streaming. The update took about 20 minutes to download and another 10 to install. Once it was done I had 30 Rock streaming in better than I would expect "HD" quality. I put "HD" in quotes because it is not 1080p, but for basically free it is very nice.

Compared to my PS3, the picture quality is about the same. Start up and load times are longer, but nothing compared to first gen BD players. The only other drawback is the DTS-MA is not decoded internally as of right now. Supposedly there is a firmware update being working on to enable this. So if you don't have a receiver than can't decode DTS-MA you may want to hold off. The advantages over a PS3 are power control, unit noise (quieter than PS3 when fans are on), Netflix. Of course the advantages of a PS3 are games, media center capabilities, and web browser.

Am I happy with the product? You betcha!

Yes, you have to update the firmware if you want to watch Netflix. You can either connect online (which you would need to stream movies anyway) or use the included cd. We were up and running in 30 minutes (most of that was download time). We love it.
