While it's hard to knock a comprehensive compilation that rolls up almost all of the Beatles' singles (since almost all of them went to number 1) in one package I do have a couple of issues with this set. First, the arc of the band's career was a path of incredible growth as musicians, songwriters and record makers over a very short time period. As an end to end listen this compilation takes you from raw, derivative R&B through to sophisticated orchestral AOR pop, with stops at folk rock, easy listening, psychedelia and hard rock along the way. It's interesting if your listening focus is the history of a great band, but a bit of a mess if you are looking to just listen to some tunes. Plus in that space of time, there are a number of relics that suffer from the distance from the 60's experience. Personally I prefer to put on a selection of complimentary Beatles albums and hit shuffle. Help/Rubber Soul/Revolver is a favourite, so is White Album/Let it Be/Hey Jude/Abbey Road. Secon... I've been a Beatles fan since before I was in grade school. I grew up listening to my dad's Capitol LP's and my first cassette tape was The Beatles 20 Greatest Hits which was released in the early 80's. This CD is an excellent compilation of all their number one hits from the US and UK. It shows the change in style of the Beatles music from 1962 to 1970 from being a "simple" rock band to creating some of the most innovative, not to mention memorable, music to come out of the 60's. The CD starts out with "Love Me Do", "From Me To You" and "She Loves You". These three tracks are presented in their original mono mix while the rest of the album is in stereo. I especially like that "From Me To You" is in mono because the stereo version had the hard pan of vocals on one side with bass, rhythm and drums on the other. In mono everything is centered. From the beginning and up to "Help" the tracks on here are mostly on the lighter side. Paul's "Yesterday" starts to show a more serious s... Read more

What a great deal. This is one of a few albums I can honestly say that I love every song! I was in the 3rd grade when these guys hit our shores with these songs, but good music stands the test of time. I don't have audiophile tastes or the keen sense of hearing to compare the original to the remastered, but I know what I like, and this music is still great fun to listen to after all these years.

I am by no means an expert on the Beatles and I can't even place myself in a respectable "fan" category. Bottom line: I like the Beatles music, so I bought this greatest hits CD. If you like, love, would die for (well, maybe this is going to far), the Beatles...then you obviously don't have to think about it any further. :-) If your wondering if it's worth it, of course it is! You cannot go wrong with the Beatles. It's really that simple.
