I don't really read it. It is just a fuddy duddy magazine to me. I could if I wanted to. I don't even like the cartoons. It is just something that people read to look important to me and others have said so.

It has come out saying now that there is no way to repeal or stop the new healthcare bill through the Supreme Court except for slight help. That ought to inspire people right there to do something. Maybe it is better to know the truth and not to get too much false hope.

I don't read it more than a few of times a year, but the writing is excellent, and the book and movie reviews are among the best in the business. The fiction is usually pretty solid and the reportage, while not great, is readable.

I read this religiously until Tina Brown and her tribe took over. After that I drifted away and I might chip at it on an annual basis today.

Pretentious rubbish which is churned out by a stable of recycled writers who are either wannabe academics or glorified Entertainment Weekly hacks who happen to hold M.F.A.s. At one time it was a great magazine, despite its pretentious name; it could boast writers like Pauline Kael. Now it's just where John Updike sends the middle-age laments everyone else finds too boring to publish.

The New Yorker has the best writing (the most finely honed use of the English language) of any general-circulation weekly.

The New Yorker has lost so much of it's taste and spunk over the years, that's it not funny anymore. All we ever hear about is politics, and that's not what I can call entertainment.

I believe that the New Yorker magazine is so well thought out. Many say it's boring, but the topics they discuss are very real and not a bunch of mush. It isn't put together with a whole bunch of ads. Even if some of the articles are very controversial, it is full of great opinions.

I've subscribed to "The New Yorker" for at least ten years, and I really enjoy it. Even though I don't read the whole thing every week, there is always something that catches my eye. I love the variety- political commentary, movie reviews, poetry, biographical sketches, fiction, etc. I appreciate the attention to detail, too, from the cover designs to the cartoons. In fact, I'd probably subscribe for the cartoons alone! Overall, this is a very high quality magazine.

the new yorker has started to expand its scope by including more contemporary artists/ figures in its coverage, and i'm routinely pleased with the quality of many of its articles, especially the long pieces that are given the space to go in depth on a variety of esoteric subjects. still, the magazine is fluffy at best. the film reviews are often bitchy rather than insightful, though they are still amusing all the same. the cartoons and illustrations are worth the price of admission.

I've been reading the New Yorker for years and love it's in depth coverage of, at least one, timely news event, its great cartoons and at least one or two very interesting "surprise" articles. Its fiction is invariably amusing and all is exceptionally well written. I obviously don't agree with those who say the New Yorker is not what it used to be.
