I am a musician. I come from a long line of soulaquarians. I will forever embellish my soul with his words, his sweet expressions of poetry. You have enlivened my heart, my soul and my mind. I am ebracing this stimulus readily. Please D forever remain a soul that is free...for you, for us, for we....from your fellow ras/soulaquarian/moon/okayplayer...the embodiment of estrogen power...the light...sunshine...play on, play on.

D'Angelo is today's king of soul. Not only is he easy on the eyes, he has powerful lyrics and a voice to get anyone in the mood.

What a CD! I bought this album 7 months ago and still play it nearly everyday. The hype is true-D'Angelo is the heir to Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye before him. A few tracks are very danceable but most are slow, smooth and soothing. My favorite track is "The Rout."

I really surprised myself in liking this CD because I usually don't like R&B artists. Although the track "Untitled" was the most popular song played on the radio, I bought the CD for the track, "Up & Down," featuring Red Man and Method Man. D'Angleo's sensual voice is perfect for a rainy day or late night insomniacs. His voice reminises that of Prince, yet he adds an individual funk that sets him apart from the rest.

how could anyone give this a rating of less then 5? firstly you cannot compare the two albums because they are so different and show how he has matured and experimented with the music. however, voodoo is no worse or better than brown sugar - they are both fantastic. the man is an extremely talented musician and songwriter as well as performer and no recording does him justice. it was an amazing experience to see him live and no other live performance thet i've seen can compare to it. voodoo is raw and funky, but smooth and soulful at the same time. i think that only shallow people who cannot possibly appreciate real music or talent would dislike this.

To follow up on his first album, this album was not as good. Although, he had more songs on this album, they were not as banging as the 10 tracks on his very first album. Overall, Voodoo is an album that I would recommend to others.

D'Angelo is an artist who emcompasses what music is and should be about. In this age of materialistic commercialism he focuses on issues that are real and truthful. His music is both recorded and played live. Not many artists these days have the talent to work with other musicians. Most music is highly synthesized and artificial. He continues to be a presence that both influences and changes the music industry. Like the some of the artists before him Hendrix, Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and some of the musicians who are influential today Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu..he has stretched and redefined the boundaries of music.

This is a great, "put you in the mood album". He has great lyrics and music. I put this album on when I'm in the tub, sit back, relax and daydream.

Another great album by D'Angelo. Tops his first album. Reminds me of Al Green. Smooth melodies. Relaxing.

D'Angelo is the man. He really helps me when I get it on. The girls get in the mood really easily when D'Angelo is on. It helps me get my groove on and puts it to a rhythm.

I always enjoyed D'Angelo's music. He has his own style and it's great I think. In all his music he gives his best.

Killer CD. Music is jazzy and has a real good flow. One CD you can listen to from start to finish and never think it's old.

My boyfriend and I love to get down and dirty with this CD. D'Angelo's passionate vocals and intricate jazz arrangements are reminiscent of Marvin Gaye, and anyone with a soul will be moved. Go buy it!

This album is one of the best R&B albums of the year. Besides a couple of songs, I play this album quite often. But personally, it didn't live up to the hype.

The guy made a music video that portrayed him as simply a naked guy singing. Enough said.

I have actually seen D'in concert twice, but did not truly appreciate him or his music until I actually read both his CD inserts. He performs all his vocals, writes most of his music, and I agree with the earlier post, that you have to be deep to even attempt to understand him. D' we love you and your music. Continue to capture us.

Not only is D'Angelo a very talented (and gifted) individual, but he has one characteristic that shines through in what he does - his respect for music! He has taken it upon himself to experiment with sounds that would appear average if left to another artist/band. His growth and maturity are evident all over Voodoo, and although Brown Sugar too was a beautiful album, his current work reflects the fact that this artist is still growing, still learning and isn't afraid to be or sound different, even if it means being criticised. Yes, Voodoo is deep, but D'angelo isn't telling us anything (some of us) didn't already know. His music is inspirational & uplifting and as an individual he appears very humble, which re-inforces my admiration and respect for him even more. Seeing him perform (in the UK) was for me, without doubt the highlight of Y2K. His stage presence was as electrifying as I imagined it would be, and more (and damn, he is so fine!). Much respect to his band too, a tigh... Read more
