Have become more disposable than iconic 70's music of any kind.

This great rock group started out with a bang! Excellent songs and fantastic harmony vocals. Even some tracks are classic album cuts. My favorite song is YOU'RE ALL I'VE GOT TONIGHT.

I love this album. I first heard this album when my next door neighbor was playing it not long after it came out. It was different from everything else going on in music in 1978, yet it sounded familiar at the same time. I guess that's what it takes for an album to stand the test of time. If someting is too different, it tends to not age well. I like every song on this album.

Perhaps the best album in terms of solid hit after hit. As debuts go, the Boston quint may have actually outdid Boston. Though I found it too quirky at first, once I really listened to their songs, I was a Cars fan forever. The summer of 1979 was around the prime of my life and I could hear those great tracks like Best Friends Girlfriend and Good Times Roll spilling out of jukeboxes from Smokey Joe's Cafe in West Philly to the infamous Shamrock's in Wildwood NJ. (I remember sucking face with some skank in Shamrock's while Just What I Needed was blaring at last call). The only track that was borderline throwaway was I'm in Touch With Your World (the flipside to Best Friends Girlfriend on most juke boxes). But after 8 Rolling Rocks at Smokey Joes, even that sounded great. I never tire of listening to the Cars. I even like Door to Door. When the Cars disbanded in 1988, that was truly the Day the Music Died.

Solid New Wave rock with very catchy dance mixes. If only bands like this could live forever!

In my opinion, this 1978 debut release from the Cars is the best full-length debut of all time and one of the best releases period. There is not a weak track in the bunch, and the track list looks like a greatest hits compilation at first glance. The only complaint is that it is too short even for vinyl. The Cars definitely had a unique sound which has not yet been duplicated and appealed (and still appeals) to fans of pop, rock, and new wave. The release contains some of the signature songs for the Cars (ie Good Times Roll, My Best Friend's Girl, and Just What I Needed) as well as You're All I've Got Tonight, Bye Bye Love, Moving In Stereo, and All Mixed Up. The only weak tracks in my opinion are I'm In Touch With Your World and Don't Cha Stop, but they may only seem weak due to the overwhelming strength of the primary tracks.

One of the more impressive debut albums of the late 70's. You can't miss with this one!

Great stuff! Half rock, half new wave!

I am very fond of the Cars' sound. Released in the late '70s as one of the many new-wave genre albums flooding the ariwaves at the time, this self-titled is very fun to listen to. There is a great sentiment that you feel whenever you hear "Let the Good Times Roll," "Just What I Needed," "Drive," or "Best Friend's Girl." The Cars aren't often recognized as one of the better bands of the late '70s and early '80s, which they most certainly are.

In it's time, these guys proved you can sound cutting edge and modern and still sell records while not sounding dreadful with that disco sound and bubble gum-foddered lyrics. It was a "wake up call" record in 1978 that rock and roll needs to move back on the forefront.

I loved this tape. One of the few I can listen to without skipping songs I don't like.

This is indeed a landmark album. Every song is a hit. It's too bad that wasn't the same for the rest of their cd's. But all bands have their downfalls. But the songs that you like make them the great band they will always be. R.I.P. Ben Orr, you are missed by your fans.

This CD is essential for any avid eighties fan. It has upbeat classic rock songs good for parties, as well as romantic slow songs good for the backseat of a car.

This CD (or tape when I listened to it) is great. This group was all me and my cousins would listen to on the way to the beach when I was little. My favorite songs are "Let the Good Times Roll" and "My Best Friend's Girlfriend."

Not only is this band old, but they suck, at least from my point of view. My boss loves this band so much that I've developed a hatred towards them.

This music makes me want to dance. It's happy 80's music, but still has talent. The Cars rock!

Listend to them a lot in high school but must've lost any tapes I had by them years ago. If they come on the radio though I'll be sure to be tapping along.

The Cars are a great band always good to listen to.

Some of the singles ("Just Want I Needed") on this record were undeniably great, hooky pop songs - but let me relay one of the funniest stories ever. Friends of mine worked in a fishery in Alaska one summer, doing monotonous 12 hr shifts, where all they'd do is cut off fish heads while a CD chosen by the manager blared into this big factory. One day the manager was running out on an errand, so he put in the Cars Greatest Hits, put it on repeat, locked his office and left. One mistake: instead of playing the whole disc and repeating, he set the CD player to repeat the song "Let the Good Times Roll" endlessly. I now can't listen to the Cars without thinking about how miserable that song would sound if you heard it 20 times in a row while cutting off fish heads....

A very, very good record. As good as the first couple of songs are (Just What I Needed, Best Friends Girlfriend, etc,) I think the last couple of tracks are even better (Moving in Stereo, All Mixed Up) - I heard All Mixed Up on the radio today at work and it inspired me to zap over to Amazon and order this CD (it was on the way to me before the song had ended). And who can listen to Moving in Stereo without thinking of the masturbation seen in Fast Times....
