So much better than you remember. I guess Binaural got lost among all the electronica albums that were ruling the airwaves at the time. Maybe it just got lost in that sea of other great records. I liked this album when it was out but I don't remember it being THIS good.

This isn't Pearl Jam's best, but I still love this record. They have produced perhaps their best mix of power and atmosphere since Vitalogy, and this work really accentuates what the band is so good at: taking a simple dynamic (picture the riff of Tremor Christ, or the accented beat of gods' dice, found here) and weaving a subtle and complex platform around it. It's like riding a wave, taking that visible part of the song and letting it take you somewhere, while the rest of the band is the force below, just driving the wave along. Not every song here is fantasic... I found Evacuation somewhat forgettable, but there are plenty of gems(gods' dice, of the girl, rival, grievance and more.) Beautiful rock music, nothing more or less. This album, and Pearl Jam in general, is the sound of driving down the highway with the stereo cranked. It's the soundtrack to personal freedom.

Binaural is a good disc, plus songs by itself, rather than their production. Perhaps in an attempt to make an album darker and sinister, Pearl Jam has created an album with sound weird, sometimes stuffy and not always so pleasant. Good songs like, Insignificance, Light Years, Breakefall, among others, are what's special in that album without the brilliance of the past.

A little personal back history, I bought this album trying to establish some semblance of cred in 2000. It was a tough time, eighth grade. My body was changing: I went from athletic to chubby back to athletic and had my wisdom teeth pulled. I grew out of Weird Al and the swing revival and moved on to what I thought was harder stuff like Sugar Ray and Incubus. I even raided my brother's CD collection. In it, I found Pearl Jam's Ten. It was pretty well beaten and wouldn't play, so I went to an Ames (remember those? They're all gone now!) and bought myself one at a "Nice Price!" (remember those stickers? They're all gone now!) for $8.00 or so. Pearl Jam was always my favorite band to come out of the Pacific Northwest movement in the early 90s. Then again, I could only name Pearl Jam and Nirvana at that point that came out of that region. Oops. Anyways, a short time after I purchased Ten, I found out at Boarders (remember when it was cool to hang out there?) that they had a new CD so I ... Read more

This band has been on the downward spiral since after Ten which to my ears is their only good album. This album just sucks. This is just a typical everyday crap album, im not a Pearl Jam fan anymore, If they did a TEN tour I would go see it if they weren't going to play any garbage after TEN espessially not anything from this album, Riot Act, BackSpacer or Yeild. Pearl Jam are gone and they are not comming back, they keep getting worse with ever album. Want awesome music get the latest AIC album it owns and is true to the music unlike Pearl Jam.

This album was a HUGE disappointment to me. It's not at all up to the quality that this band is capable of. The only song on it worth listening to is "Nothing As it Seems."

No one should ever ever hate this band>>>>>>> they are the all time best ever. Sure, I agree this is their worst ever release but listen to Riot act to hear their return form? How can anyone of any background or race deny that they are pure art and pure expression in it's finest form? The songs worth checking out from this release are insignificance and rival these are excellent.

You know, a lot of people think this album sucks and I will admit that the first time I heard it I thought the same. Then I decided to listen to it for what it is instead of trying to listen to it for what it isn't. Meaning that I had expectations of how I thought Pearl Jam should sound. This album does not sound like I thought it would. When I went back and listened to it I realized Binaural is an album that not many bands could come close to making. It is a true accomplishment. All the songs are deep and meaningful and that is something that not many bands do these days.

This album is a testament to the idea that all truly great bands move in an innovation seeking direction. Just as Led Zeppelin went Eastern, Pearl Jam goes spacey and atmospheric, away from the huge arena rock hits that lesser bands would fear to stray from. This album defintely has a melancholy, dark sort of feel, even the shifting punk numbers such as Breakerfall and Grievance.

Pearl Jam's albums keep getting better and better. Just about all the radios still play their earlier stuff, but for Pearl Jam fans they continue to please. This album seems fairly experimental, but with enough good rock to attract new fans as well.

Binaural is an album only Pearl Jam could make. With equally shared musical influence and writing credit, Pearl Jam creates a diverse album with a no-nonsense approach. Once again, they show us their instrumental prowess without showing off, or even trying, and their capacity to notice and care about the people and issues around them. "Nothing as it Seems" and "Thin Air" show the beauty of PJ's quiet moments, and "Grievance" and "Breakerfall" do worlds to prove that Pearl Jam are punk rockers. Another amazing album.

Bands such as Pearl Jam and the Stone Temple Pilots are helping to further progress rock, which is what SHOULD be done, instead of leaving it all up to Britney Spears and all of the tons of boy bands that are out there already. I hope they continue to grow as artists and also continue to kick ass!!!!

Pearl Jam is doing what they want to do and it is cool for the fans to grow with this band....I highly doubt anyone who listens to Pearl jam for the music would want to go shoot their dog. So, FLY, i am glad that you didn't like it, and i dont want to see you hanging out at any of the concerts either.

Pick one: 1. Listen to this CD. 2. Go shoot your dog. Both will give you the same effect.
