Perhaps the most unintentionally gay film since, since. . .err (it's too early) and the real history of the battle of Thermopalye (sp?) is far more intriguing than this shot-in-a-warehouse film with rather overrated special effects.

this film is one of the causes why there are so many hard man idiots around depicting men who in actual history were brave   this film turns them into nothing but scumbags and idiots

A fairly good movie. No big actors but good all the same.A depiction of a real life battle between Sparta and the Persians.I must say the Spartans were tough fighting machines.I enjoyed it personally.

I found it at best average. Poor acting and battle scenes. It just does not come together, or didn't for me.

visually, it was like a dream. the best fight sequences i've seen in any film. the effects leave you breathless.  some say it was lacking in substance and acting, but i found it to lack neither. the story was simple, but it was there. as others have said, i'm not certain of it's historical value, as xerxes was quite like a giant, and there were a few half-man, half-beast characters in his army. but if you enjoy a well made battle movie, you'll love this film. left me feeling like i owe some sort of servitude to sparta.

Leonidis, you are wrong! I want the wealth... the women....I want it all!! If you didn't watch the movie, watch it. Action, Discipline, Honor, More Action, Gore, and some Inspirational words from the soon to be dead men walking. The movie is captured much like from its original format of a comic book. The action was sufficiently executed, with precise effects to make it all work like a fireworks display. The mound of corpses adds a nice touch to the whole brutality vs. civility, human vs. animal/beast. There's nothing like a wall of dead soldiers to get you in the mood for an onslaught, or their case, "Fighting in the Shade". 300 offers the audience action and a peek in history's survived records about a battle that might actually be paralleling something of this era (Note: History almost Always Repeats Itself = People are Stupid)

A nearly complete letdown. Does not compare to gladiator or braveheart. The history channel's documentary is well worth seeing.

While it's certainly not Oscar-worthy, it was good for what it was.  Remember: It's not by any means a documentary so much as it is a representation of Frank Miller's artistic interpretation of it.  If you're looking for historical accuracy, turn on the History Channel.   SYNOPSIS:  It's one big artsy interpretation of the battle of Thermopylae; King Leonidas and 300 Spartans versus the vast Persian army lead by Xerxes.  Lots of blood, gore, mostly-naked women and even more mostly-naked men, and lots and lots of testosterone.  No intricate plotline.  No deep meaning of life here.  Just a lot of metal through flesh. PROS:  It's all about the delivery: artistically, it's great.  So what if everything is idealized and exaggerated?  It's supposed to be.   CONS:  The acting was definately lacking.  The dialogue was lacking.  But, then again, it really doesn't require a lot of acting talent to run around in nothing but a loincloth and roar for two hours. OVERALL:  It delivered exactly w... Read more

Obviously, it takes liberties with the real story of one of the most important wars in human history, and it made the Persians look like Orcs and there were lots of deformed figures. Xerxes was really transformed into some sort of  wrestling character. The acting and the dialogue is bombastic, but if you enjoy battle scenes and special effects you'll like it. A lowest common denominator type of movie, but enjoyable and fast paced.
