when I first saw this video I was like what the hell? It was so refreshing to see a new kind of music enter the mainstream at least for me,die hard fans will disagree I'm sure, but in the early 90's all you saw on MTV was glam rock, which was fine for the 80's. This cd was thefirst one I could actually listen to every song on it over and over again.
phantomdark 03/13/2008
The greatest song of the '90s. R.I.P. Kurt.
timberwolfnatu ral000 06/23/2007
This song is known around the world to be one of the greatest songs in music history. It made Nirvana what they are today rock legends. One of the top 5 best videos I ever saw.
yeah_denial 03/01/2006
THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST!
adverage joe 01/04/2006
Very few songs can change, inspire lives as well as accomplish what this song has done. Not to mention it has an infectious replay value which makes this song as legendary as the band itself. 1991 Smells Like Teen Spirit Official UK Singles Chart No. 7 1991 Smells Like Teen Spirit Modern Rock Tracks No. 1 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit The Billboard Hot 100 No. 6 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Mainstream Rock Tracks No. 7 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Hot Dance Music/Club Play No. 14 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales No. 27 1991 Smells Like Teen Spirit Official Sweeden Singles Chart No. 3 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Official Switzerland Singles Chart No. 6 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Official Austrian Singles Chart No. 8 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Official Australian Singles Chart No. 8 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Official Italian Singles Chart No. 6 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Official German Singles Chart No. 2 1992 Smells Like Teen Spirit Official Norway Singles Chart

This was a very kool video back then and it still rocks today !!
soadnirvana 07/19/2005
Why, oh why do must you shed light onto this horrid song? why must Smells like Teen Spirit be known as Nirvana's greatest hit? This, has to be the second worst Nirvana song, Come as you are being the first, that they had in their whole catalog. The video was so mediocre, so dark you could hardly make anything out.
charleycemetry 02/28/2005
I dont think that anyone can truly explain the song. And the video is rocking it describes teen anguish so completely xXx

Some of you don't understand the song and okay that's understandable but lisson to the words Load up on guns and bring your friends It's fun to lose and to pretend She's over bored and self assured Oh no, I know a dirty word Some of you can't read between the lines. No I will not say they were the greatest band of all time and no I will not put Cobain on a pedestal for being a drugie, but come on the song is ingenious within it's self and he didn't even know it. One he was advertising and didn't know it, he's talking about self esteem, and about people comming together. With the lights out, it's less dangerous Here we are now, entertain us I feel stupid and contagious Here we are now, entertain us A mulatto An albino A mosquito My libido Yay Is this not true?
Alexg681 01/27/2005
The video is OK, but it's an awesome song! MTV named this the #1 video of all time in a countdown they had shortly after Cobain's death.
Chalky Studebaker 01/22/2005
The song is okay but why on earth is this one of the greatest videos of all-time? It's a band playing in a gym............ooooooooohh look out
louiethe20th 01/22/2005
Ruined music for good, in my opinion.Come as you are was an excellent song, but the rest were of no use to me.I am tired of people defending Cobain and saying how great he was!Blaming Courtney Love for his death! She was equally worthless and still is.Bottom line is, Cobain was a twisted, warped, troubled, alcoholic, drug addicted scoundrel, who threw it all away and now resides in Hell by way of the shotgun!Update:I am sure my unhelpfuls will quickly rise after this but oh well!!!You people have no defense for Cobain.
RushFan 01/22/2005
Highly overrated song and group.
poitay 01/07/2005
the song is great and so is the video, but anyone who doesnt think the song was overplayed is kidding themselves. Kurt Cobain despised the mainstream, and Smells Like Teen Spirit basically made Nirvana mainstream. It was a cause of his suicide(he didnt want to be mainstream). the mainstream crowd ate it up and pretty soon the perfect little girl became the misunderstood depressed conformist teen.video was great, mainstream killed it.
SEXandCANDY 12/15/2004
Cobain actually hated the video. The cheerleaders were played by strippers- obviously a deeper meaning there.
CanadaSucks 11/04/2004
The Roy Hobbs of MTV- The best there ever was. . .the best there ever will be.
Maria_videolov er 07/31/2004
The best is found in simplicity... Who says this video has no meaning, its totally wrong, this video even get to represent the screams of the 90's youth.
ANSGARD 06/29/2004
The song is absolutely great and the video idem. People that think this is overrated, they are just pointless , pathetic
Blanco~Nino 06/12/2004
A Masterpiece
elisabethDK 04/26/2004
It's just to great!!!
WhateverNeverm ind 04/17/2004
Of course there is no speacial effects in the video actully its as simple as it can be. However despite its simple its not boring at! The mosh pit is a sign that teens want fun. The abanded gym reprsents our problems that adults could never understand. Anarchy cheerleaders is pure teen spirit (how many adults are anarchists)I'm sick and tired seeing videos of women showing there brests and asses just because a stupid rapper can't find a desent way in sell records. The video not only represented the teen spirit but it also represented rock and grunge(in particular) Cause we rockers don't give a f**k about what you think about us! So please enjoy your all that crap you see on Mtv! (Like that snoopdog with his pimp after all we do now that he has been stuck with his wife for years!)What bullshit!
kolby1973 04/01/2004
I actually thought the video was really good ! It had the right amount of trashiness all around. I especially loved the cheerleaders...really rough looking girls...loved it ! Highly recommend it to Nirvana fans...
evileye 04/01/2004
I don't know what was so great about the video?? The song is great, 5 stars great!! But we're rating the video and it doesn't deserve anything special.
kinkykinks 03/23/2004
one of the best videos of all time!
==mdf 11/21/2003
The song and video went together perfectly. 'teen spirit was full of this raw energy and power, a party song and the video was shot in a dark erotic gym with grunge cheerleaders, (cobain's touch), and had a pulsating rythm to it. the lighting was brilliant on the band, escpecially kurt and the slow motion sequences were another brilliant touch. every gets together and goes nuts, much like the chaos of the song. great video.
RebelYell1861 10/25/2003
This song is what turned me into a music lover, and the video only made it more accessible for me to hear. Easily 5 stars.
andyln 05/12/2003
Nirvana is what enticed people for the love of grunge it's songs that you can remember and sing along too because they're catchy and Nirvana has a lot of inner meanings Kurt Cobain sang it in a grunge masterpiece great video great band
Becks 01/09/2003
This video is no cinematic masterpiece, nor does it offer any theatrical storyline or drama. The greatness in this video lies in what you don't see, namely: Kurt, Krist and Dave. Think about it: this is the group's breakout song and video, and there's not a single closeup, preen-shot, or perfectly-lit profile of the band members in the entire cut. When you do see the band, especially Kurt, his face is covered by his rag-top hairdo. Contrast this with the typical Poison, Winger or G'n'R footage, circa early 1990s: just a bunch of girls on the runway, if you will. What you're left with is the low-fi, low-budget energy and imagery of the pep-rally from hell, backed by the audio soundtrack of one of rock and roll's greatest anthems. (Or anti-anthem, if you prefer.) With so much left to the imagination, the viewer is left wanting to see more of the band members, not less. In the end what propels this video is the backdrop of the music. But the video's 'non-featuring' of the featured artist was a most profound punk statement, a big f-you to the makeup and hairspray rock bands that Nirvana eventually drove to extinction.
grunger 10/22/2002
The video was the most compelling thing i have ever seen. Who really cares if it's low budget or not. That's what makes it what it is. This video will remind people how different these people are; how it changed the whole music scene as well as a new music genre. The entire song is filled with kurts thoughts and emotions that no one else can describe but only by listening. When you saw that video, heard his words, his music, you knew that it would be something different; something that will knock you off your feet. ...peace, love, empathy
TheFreak 05/29/2002
Good, as music videos go. Not phenomenal, not incredibly innovative, but by God did it have influence. Classy and well done, with some awesome instrumentals. It's incredibly overrated, but that is not the band's fault. I have seen better, I have seen worse, I have seen things that make this video look like "Apocalypse Now" in terms of quality. In short, it's a good solid video with nothing too amazing about it. Take care, everyone!
jlosux 07/15/2001
Like the song a lot better than the video....would someone PLEASE throw Kurt in the shower???? Maybe it just went over my head
cheltzy_1 07/05/2001
Nirvana is the greatest band ever and every song of theres deserves a 10. R.I.P Kurt we'll miss you.
suusjes 07/04/2001
i think it's a great video, i mean it's not the best ever, but whenever it's on tv, you just go...ooooh yeah, oh that's su cool! The cheerleadres were supposed to be ugly though weren't they? you cna't see that very well.
smackingkittie s 04/24/2001
Hey, lets face it. This video, song, and band pretty much changed the face of music. The song has a great meaning and the video is awesome.
RottenApple 04/03/2001
This is a really cool video and it fits good with the song. Some people say this video s*cks because its a low budget video but that is how nirvana was. Not like all the macho-figures who want to say with their video's :'hey check me out, i'm cool.' It was just to piss these guys off. Thats why I like it.
crazy_byrd 03/08/2001
What the hell is this video doing on the list?? All they did was jump around while the teen angst groupies created a giant mosh pit. This band was overrated. Apparently so were the videos.
JonWeHo 01/27/2001
Garbage.
ScAr hEaRt 01/08/2001
NIRVANA IS THE EVER GREATEST BAND, AND THEY DID NOT MAKE FUN OF THE "TEEN SPIRIT", DAMN I HATE PEOPLE WHO SAY SO!:p NIRVANA FOREVERRRRR!!!!!=o)! PS: KURT DIDN'T DESERVE THE B**** COURTNEY LOVE, SHE HIRED SOMEONE TO KILL HIM F**** YOU COURTNEY!!!!!:p
Jr Zambabaz 12/16/2000
This is a cool video. This song is crazy and makes you think. The video is crazy too and fits the song. The song looks better because of the video.
puhaha 12/14/2000
Just messy and so mocking. They could have done a better job if they weren't trying to make fun of the "teen spirit."
jaystone 12/14/2000
This was my first taste of grunge music and it sprung a whole new world to people who were tired of glam rock. This type of music came at the right time. Kurt's death was unfortunate and untimely.
justin 11/22/2000
Introduced a new wave of music. No one does it like Kurt Cobain. The video matches it like Kurt Cobain. The video matches the song perfectly. By far the best video of the 90's.
BE205 11/22/2000
Despite it's constant high ratings in video countdowns, this overplayed Nirvana song's video does little to entertain you after you've seen it once. A low budget unoriginal video. Maybe there is more to the line, "Here we are now, entertain us" than we know.
LoLlIpOpPoRnBi TcH 09/17/2000
WUT CAN I SAY? ROCK WILL NEVER DIE. COBAIN ROCKED, HIS MUSIK ROCKED AN THIS VIDEO IS THE DEFENITION OF TEENAGE ANGST. RIP KURT...WE ALL LOVE U
Wtbyan 12/05/1999
Second best video ever(jeremy is the best.) This is the epitomy of the 90s music video. Lots of spirit(no pun intended), great imagery and mood creation, good audio video correlation. It's a step above most other videos.
john430et 11/11/1999
I love Nirvana, and I love this song, but the video just doesn't do it for me. Cheerleaders with anarchy tatoos -- whatever. Most Nirvana videos kind of suck, which I think is strange, because the music is so good.
