Another PR black eye for ESPN as more evidence that this 'sports network' is dying in front of our eyes. .. ESPN (again) is late again with coverage of (another) Roethlisberger sexual assault story. They outright ignored the first one and now were awfully slow (again) this time around. We get non-stop 'stories' of the size of Brett Favre's turds and how that will affect his return/retirement but when there is an actual story, this network seems to have a clear agenda with certain athletes.Something is seriously, seriously, wrong. . .it's time to start having the discussion about this network being nothing more than part of the PR marketing scheme for athletes instead of a real sports network with anything resembling objective coverage.(old review.). . .slipping fast. . .get rid of the non-sports TV crap. . .get rid of the fake reality shows. . .get rid of fat losers wearing stupid glasses playing poker and put on real sports. . .ESPN is slipping into MTV-without-videos territory and I see it as a potential problem. . .

Was far better back in the day, when they actually analyzed the games. Now, it's become the sports world's version of Last Comic Standing. Redunkulous!

ESPN's coverage of the Monday Night Football game 'favored' the Green Bay Packers. Too much focus on Favre and Rogers instead of the game and the players IN THE GAME!
pinky124 07/29/2008
Resse and Mayday are extremely interesting and have great insight. Bob Greise is terrible. I has turned off the ESPN shows at least three times when Greise starts talking. Get rid of him. He adds nothing to the dynamics of resse and Mayday. SWK

They seem kind of biased but I watch them quite a bit for sports coverage. I like ESPN news better....though since ESPN took over the Breeders Cup they have given it the attention it deserves.

Nobody, and I mean Nobody does college sports casting as good as ESPN, Especially Reese Davis. Reese you are phenomenal! Reese, i have kept up with you since the WRBL days! Keep up the good work!!

I love sports AND I HATE espn. This network cares more about appeasing feminists, NAACP, criminals, labor unions, human resource managers and rappers. Plus, they love to cater to this generations biggest special interest group...the ADD kids. Is it possible to cram more graphics, sounds and special effects into a 5 second span...seriously? Do real sports fans still watch this channel? I avoid this channel unless I'm forced to watch it because my team is on MNF or Game of the Week...in which case, I mute it so I only have to see the video portion.
Momsandpopscal lmeJoe 09/12/2007
A lot of their analysts care more bout' their own little gimmicks and they focus of the negative too much. My uncle said that they were talkin' so much about Vick that they should have renamed the channel ESPN-V. Despite this its still the best sports channel though, I didnt watch Fox Sports that much.
twansalem 06/29/2007
While they may have the highest volume of sports coverage, they really don't have the best quality of sports coverage. For example, TNT does a much better job of covering NBA games. But poorly done coverage is better than none at all. A lot of games just wouldn't be covered at all without ESPN.
AEnzhRu 02/07/2007
Still the ONLY sports network that really exists and ESPN, along with its subsidiaries (ESPN2, etc.) has always been and still is all-encompassing and comphrensive. Still, like the rest of the country the network is becoming very liberal, and hence very sleazy and unintelligent in many, many areas: The intro of ESPN Hollywood, the ESPYs are amazingly cringe-inducing and unbearable to watch -it's more of a sleazy celebrity trash show than a sports award presentation show. And ESPN is buying out and taking over everything. They now own the rights to Monday Night Football and Tirico and Cornheiser absolutely SUCK compare to ANY prior MNF announcers (though their show "Pardon The Interruption is entertaining). Like the rest of the country, ESPN is losing its edge and rapidly becoming a self-parody.

Not into sports so I'd never watch this.
samjung23 03/23/2006
Going down fast...ignorant NBA commentators, a rabidly sensationalistic and liberal Sportscenter obsessed with women athletes...seriously, what's their deal with Danica Patrick, women dunkers and Annika Sorenstam? One show I watched recently couldn't stop replaying this NCAA female basketball player dunking...wow, BIG DEAL! The woman was totally arrogant too...this channel needs to stop hiring ex-athletes for the basketball commentary and overhaul Sportscenter...
gamerman 03/05/2006
Update: This is why I hate espn. Espn always beats a story into the ground. I'm watching espnnews right now and they're constantly reminding us about the NFL labor talk, and they're counting down the minutes for the roster cuts! Isn't there something else you can talk about Espn? Stop ramming a story that you think is important down our throats. They're the #1 place to get sports updates, but...and this is a big but, I can't stand the t.v. analysts, especially Sean Salisbury. When he talks, he acts like he was a hame of fame qb, Sean you were a scrub buddy! The worst thing about most of espn's analysts is that they try to hard to be "cool."
jazzackfl 02/27/2006
The original man channel. Way before spike tv. But I'd wish they wouldn't show stuff like Bass Master, and Deer Hunter.
irishgit 02/15/2006
If you're any kind of sports fan, its hard not to like at least elements of this channel. I get a little tired of the filler stuff, particularly the talking head jock shows, or highlights from riveting sporting events like the Mid-west Regional Left-handed Albanian Feather Throwing Championship, but when they stick to real sports and not just yakking about them, they're pretty good.
bdupree 01/30/2006
I am sad by the death of Primetime
GobTheHotCop 10/26/2005
Great for sports updates, but they no longer do NHL hockey so I never watch anymore!
surfer0625 10/23/2005
ESPN crew especially the college football game day crew with Reese Davis and company is just phenominal!
Ghost123 06/26/2005
Best by default. Just keep giving us live sporting events. Skip poker, shows like Tilt and game shows. Just stick to SportsCenter and live events.
husker16 06/11/2005
Its good, but i hope it doesn't turn into an MTV type channel where it gets away from its main theme an tries to appeal to the teenage crowd.
James76255 06/07/2005
Not as good as it used to be. Maybe it's just the natural process of becoming less interested in sports as I grow older, or maybe it's because they run Sportscenter 57 times a day. Good football and baseball broadcasts, though.
GenghisTheHun 06/06/2005
Good niche product

enough poker and women's billiards already. BORING.
feek_sparksr#1 03/07/2005
This is a great channel a could watch it 24/7!
zuchinibut 01/29/2005
Does a 24 hour a day sports network ever get old? Not for me. ESPN covers it all, with live sports action almost every day of the year.
alpepper 12/02/2004
I don't particularly care for the way ESPN manipulates sports for their own gain [Want an example - SportsCenter changed the NBA from a mid-range shooters game to a dunk and 3-pointer sideshow cause that's how a baller gets air time, ergo More Jack]. That being said, if I wasn't married, it would be the only channel I'd ever watch.
numbah16tdhaha 11/06/2004
Hail to the king, baby. UPDATE: Didn't some lady sue ESPN for causing her divorce?
ClassicTVFan47 11/06/2004
ESPN2 remains better than its parent network, even if ESPN2 itself is slowly sinking downhill. Simply put, the worldwide leader of sports does not show enough sporting events. They constantly, CONSTANTLY repeat Sportscenter to the point of boredom. There are shows about sports that aren't actually events. And, even worse, there are now reality shows on a sports network. When they aren't showing Baseball or other enjoyable events, they are showing useless stuff like Poker. Five hours of Poker is completely stupid and useless. Where's the Badminton? Field Hockey? Sailing? Table Tennis? Track and Field? Beach Volleyball? Lacrosse? There are so many exciting sports that could be aired and aren't. Another flaw is their setup. I believe their network should change the whole ambience of their broadcasting. Instead of seperate bits for each event, they should do it more like the networks of NBC did during the Olympics. Have an introduction every few hours and have one professional broadcaster (changed every few hours, naturally, with a new introduction) always in the studio. Then, introduce events to be aired in full and switch between events at will. During down time, the host could interview athletes and show highlights of other games. This would eliminate the need for SportsCenter altogether! Even more, ESPN's sports displays and stat boxes are often dark or black, compared the colorful and bright graphics used during the Olympic games.
Flick01 09/24/2004
The room is all dark except for the screen, some guys are in red shirts, some guys are in green. There's a break in the action but soon they'll be more, I'd go to the bathroom but someone might score. It's ESPN--ESPN-- you're the reason I'm single again. Life is for losers, sports is your friend, and who's got more sports on than ESPN. (Buskin and Batow)
grouper 07/28/2004
courage and espn are total strangers limbaugh gets the ax and the next day M irvin calls trao aikman his boy narry a sound from espn barry bonds makes off color racial slurs- espn is silent the color of espn,s collective belly is obviously yellow
tdubya71 07/25/2004
Has all the great sports but Sportscenter has become painful to watch anymore, especially Stuart Scott. You need an English-Ebonics dictionary to understand him. And like the rest of television, the reality garbage is raising its ugly head.
VinnyIN 05/17/2004
It would be better if their baseball broadcasts eliminated Joe Morgan and put somebody halfway tolerable in there. They could also improve by replacing the awful Stuart Scott of SportsCenter with somebody without so many stupid cliches.
DiamondDavid 05/13/2004
If my TV's on, odds are I'm watching ESPN. Sportscenter provides a substantive recap of the day's events. Baseball Tonight is also must-see TV, with extensive highlights and commentary from the likes of Harold Reynolds and Peter Gammons. NFL Primetime has cut down on their highlights from past years, but it's still a great show. I like Outside the Lines too. ESPN does a fine job touching on controversial, off-the-field subjects such as steroids in baseball and sidelines reporters posing in Playboy and FHM (my favorite subject matter discussed, harhar).
Davis21Wylie 04/12/2004
ESPN is pretty bad now. It used to be amazing, but the again so did SportsCenter... ESPN started the downhill roll when it assimilated espn2, forcing it to use its lame red and black graphics and show Cold Pizza instead of Premier League Soccer. I used to be able to find something of value on ESPN, espn2, or ESPN Classic at all times, but now they've become mindless and boring. SC, go back to the old graphics, the tan and black-style ones. Forsake the Space Station set. It's the only way to return to ESPN's glory days.
kolby1973 03/23/2004
This guy I used to know really well used to always watch SportsCenter, whenever it came on the television nothing else seemed to exist in his world, so naturally I was threatened by it and hated it for that reason. Well long after he was gone from my life I actually watched it and it was really good. Not such a bad channel really...
minkey 03/22/2004
Sports Center is one of my most valuable resources. If I'm too busy to read the sports section or watch the games, this show will give me a breakdown of everything I need to know in professional sports in just 30 minutes.
DeathRattle 01/20/2004
IF anything, ESPN is tops when in comes to sports news and analysis. That have a variety of show for each of the tops soprts in the land. Then there's the crown jewel: sportscenter. Of course, it world appear at times that ESPN for half of the day should be called the Sportscenter channel. Yet, it's also great to know that you can always catch sports highlights of some of the big games of the day. Actual games from different leagues and sports are still shown on a regular basis. With the three other affiliate channels, ESPN has the sports world covered.
vacawi 12/24/2003
ESPN = Excruciatingly Sarcastic Puerile Nonsense! I now refuse to watch. SportsCenter has lost me with its smugness and devotion to minutia. Among other things, it has gotten to the point where ESPN's research is too detailed and painstaking to consume. I feel betrayed and embarrassed when they roll out yet another meaningless statistic. Yet, behind the scenes, you just know some brain-fried intern is getting patted on the fanny, hailed as Prometheus, for discovering a terrific factoid. They used to run a Did Ya Know? at the close. Fine. Now, the whole broadcast has Did Ya Knows buried at every turn. Enough! It shows they're fat, getting fatter, and are only interested in amusing themselves in Bristol, CT. The pencil-necks at SportsCenter lead me to conclude that the audience they're really trying to impress is actually the pro athletes, on whom ESPN rely for its life-giving interviews and other infernal content. To me, it is a horrifying problem that so many people are there to listen when an athlete opens his mouth. Is there anything less meaningful than what an athlete SAYS? It's fine if you let them compete, record it for playback if you must, but please, oh please, then make them go away in silence! ESPN's grating on-air talent is always scaling new heights of sarcasm, egotism and one-upmanship among peers. And they all seem to speak with the urgency of bullies who believe the most forceful speakers are the only ones worthy to be heard. (I do realize it is now imperative on any network, not just ESPN, to be a loudmouth if you're going to do sports.) As for the highlight packages, SportsCenter does a competent job rehashing the day's events. But when, when, when are thoughtful people going to realize that they've seen it all before already? Just how many runs from scrimmage, passes, kicks, runbacks, dunks, 3-pointers, assists, batted balls, 4-3 putouts, et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseum do you need to see in a lifetime before you realize you have indeed seen it ALL countless times before?! I'm sure to be lonely in my comments. So be it. Go ahead and watch yourselves into oblivion!
Izzy_17uk 11/03/2003
more football please (soccer)
IanCross 11/03/2003
wish they would show more soccer though
DKat89 06/26/2003
would be rated higher if they stuck Dick Vitale and his big mouth in Antarctica, permanently covering dog sled racing...
SJSU 06/04/2003
How could anyone give this anything but a five? NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, NCAA football and basketball. What else could you ask for? Toss in SportsCenter and ESPN is indespensible for the sports fan.
b.green 05/06/2003
Which SportsCenter do you watch?
Shnikees 03/22/2003
They are the #1 name in Sports period. They are the Microsoft of Sports. One problem : Too much Kobe and the Lakers, they were in last and still the first story on SC.
Jason1972 01/23/2003
Two reasons -- SportsCenter and NFL Highlights.
lukskywlkr. 01/15/2003
Usually, I enjoy ESPN's coverage of sports, but they tend to push the sports that they consider to be of lesser importance (i.e., tennis, golf, etc.) over onto ESPN2 so they won't have to give them as much attention on this channel.
