Great cast, "Rob Lowe  ( now in a show called "Brothers & Sister" -Martin Sheen, John Spencer, Stockard Chaning, Janeane Garofalo,Jimmy Smits.  This show has them all!!     One of the best shows in a very long time!    A shame it went off the air. and a bigger shame that "John Spencer" died,  Amust see show.

As a loyal fan of seven years, it’s hard to say that I’m impartial, but after watching the those seven seasons recently on DVD and reflecting on past and current television programming, I can say that there are only a few shows that rival The West Wing.  Yes, it was a bit preachy at times.  Yes, it was an idealized view of politics.  Yes, some plotlines got re-hashed, but if you consider the over all quality of all elements of the show (writing, acting, directing, cinematography) and the importance of the content, it’s difficult to deny that The West Wing was a significant program and profoundly a cut above.  Some critics got fatigued with the show later in its run, but I think that even at it’s lowest points, it knocks the vast majority of other programs out of the water.

I've never worked at the White House, but I've worked as staff for some high-level politicians.

This isn't far off reality, and what is off, is forgivable. I didn't make a habit of watching it, but when I did I usually enjoyed it.

I particularly identify with a couple of characters.

Excellent acting, writing and drama. This is an excellent show. A bit heavy at times with its clear leftward bias, but nonetheless, still a compelling and reasonably accurate portrayal of the American political system and the presidency. Sheen is at his best here.

I do need to say that I quit watching this show early in the season last year. I used to like Jimmy Smits, but can honestly say I don't care if I ever see him act again...or the producers of the show dragged his 'negative, flippant' character to the inth degree and wasted his acting abilities. As well, the show dealt far too much on 'election campaigning' and got away from other important issues. Too bad, they started out fantastic and, I think, ending on a sour note.

Okay, this causes a fight in my house- I think this is the most overrated show ever. Self-important speeches, predictable characters and plot, yawn, yawn, yawn. . .I just don't accept TV as having any ability to reflect real life. . .the wife is an addict and I'm trying to wean her away. . .

It is consistently high quality - and I dislike politics! :-) I'm sorry to see it go but it wouldn't be the same without Martin Sheen as president. I've often wished I could write him in on a real ballot! :-) Anyhow, I'm glad that Commander-in-Chief is taking up the baton.

I originally started watching an episode here and there simply because it had Rob Lowe in it, but I can honestly say that besides him, this show bores me. Maybe it's because I'm almost 16 and not into politics.

I'll give credit where credit is do...the West Wing (or Left Wing as others call it) does combine humor and drama into one, tactful manner but the same certainly can't be said about the way it handles politics. The conservatives are consistently portrayed as evil white men out to damage Martin Sheen's selfless causes and intiatives; I wouldn't be surprised if they started to by play the Imperial March every time a conservative was put on the show. The very first episode spewed of self-righteous political rhetoric and not-so-subtle ways of painting Republicans in a negative light: a Republican senator is sitting next to two other prominent conservatives (who also seem to have an evil fascade about them) when he angrily screams, the first commandment says honor thy father and mother when the liberal senior staffer Toby states that's incorrect (oh...Toby's jewish by the way so you could imagine how stupid the Christian was to not know such a basic fact). The best part is when suddely the glorious president Bartlett enters the room, corrects the senator and tells them to get their fat asses out of his White House. The conservatives leave in shame and disgrace and six years of a DNC infomercial is launched.

I think right-wingers don't like this show because, like so much typical tv, it slants the arguments, the story lines, the characters and the theme to show the liberal president, and the issues he espouses, in a more positive light than might register with the mainstream population. They are also very careful to strategically cull out the excess emotion and over-dramatizing that so many liberals are guilty of in arguments. Watched two episodes of the show and decided that the point of the show was to re-write the history of the Clinton Administration, knowing the right answers to the problematic issues in advance and reacting with maturity, vision and true concern for America and its strategic interests, rather than the president's immediate gratification or the narrow public relations needs (as their left-wing zealots saw it) of the DNC.

Ready for a new president? Probably going to be Jimmy Smits. Hope he's funny. I think right wingers hate this show because, for them, an intelligent, articulate president who can actually do something and actually went to college for something that pertains to the government, is rather far-fetched, and is therefore impossible to hope for or concern themselves with. They would want an illiterate moron (kinda like the VP on the show, played by Gary Cole) to be fair and balanced (COME AND GET ME, FOX NEWS!!!).

Great show, but is getting long in the tooth. Should be called The Left Wing for it's obvious political leanings. Still this is a quality show that is smart and cleverly written. Some of the storylines are a real strecth though - Toby saves Social Security in one episode? They needed to shake up the cast a bit by switching almost everyone's job titles which was good, but you can look at everyone and see, they've been doing this show for awhile. Sometimes feel like the show is preaching the Democratic Gospel.

Not nearly as good as the early years and it definitely dropped off a bit last year after Aaron Sorkin left, but the cast still keeps this show going strong. I think it may be time to end this White House run and perhaps bring in a whole new administration and do it from the Republican point of view. I know that isn't hollywood's M.O., but it may just get some more years out of this show.

If a west wing is near point it at my butt. Look at me I'm a right wing wacko who can't even watch a tv show without thinking thats it too liberal. Look at me I'm a left wing wacko who needs a TV to reassure me of my politics. Oh yeah..Bush is bad. Tv shows don't fit like shoes I think Martin needs implants. How come air planes fall when the west wing is on. Taco salad tossed in prison. Skeet skeet skeet.

I'm sorry, but I just can't express any interest in this show whatsoever. At first, I didn't watch it because it competed with the brilliant science-fiction show, Star Trek: Voyager. Now that the sixth Trek series, Star Trek: Enterprise is continuing the Star Trek legacy in a different time slot, I decided to sample the show. The acting is pretty bad and the show has no action. Just a bunch of boring polictics and bland dialogue. No humor, no action, no special effects, no nothing. Can't believe its so popular. UPDATE: Enterprise and West Wing are now battling it out in the same time slot! West Wing shall LOSE!!!

With the arrest of the writer, this season suffered a lot. Finally in last week and last night's episodes, things have begun to pick up. The whole Chloe kidnap thing was stupid, but I stuck with it because I remembered when we would be so upset when the show was over for an episode that we were on pins and needles til the next episode. Glad to see that Josh and Mrs. Bartlet are back, they are an integrel part of the show!

With another Emmy for Best Drama notwithstanding, this show has lost it's "legs." Having Jeb Bartlet step down and installing John Goodman as the President of the United States lost this program quite a few viewers. Don't know whether it was because Sorkin and Schlamme left or what, but what was a dry, but interesting, show is now just another boring piece of filler.

I had to watch this show for my Political Science class and wasn't thrilled about it mainly because of the fact that I don't like this type of show. But going through these comments it's amazing how ignorant some people are. To say these actors know nothing about politics shows how little you actually know about acting. An Actor's FIRST job in creating the character is STUDYING THE CHARACTER. To better understand and play the role. Martin Sheen plays the president, I'd say that's a pretty unique opportunity, and I'd also say he knows more about politics than the majority of you. Why? because its part of the job. Just because you don't agree with what he believes outside of the show does not make him ignorant, but at the same time it makes you look like a waste of skin for saying such IGNORANT things. Ignorant, sure is a fun word to toss around isn't it? I wonder how many of you even know what it means.
